I don't have as much of an issue with it's occasional use, but given marijuana's effect on personal motivation, it does concern me just a bit regarding someone like our new guy Richardson, not to mention Henderson, as far as grit and motivation to be in good physical condition as its effects may also be difficult to manage their eating habits....I'm not saying that in light of all the new legislation that has been passed and pending and certainly being moved into current discussion marijuana penalties in the NFL shouldn't be reduced and dealt with differently than other drugs / performance enhancers, but the "slippery slope" argument is usually one I adhere to in nearly every situation and am concerned about its long-term effects on the players to manage it appropriately, instead of abusing it....just a thought

Barr is Maybin 2.0 IMO, so to me that's a no brainer, especially given where he was Drafted....and I realize it was a late 1st, but Kelvin Benjamin doesn't seem to translate well to the NFL, despite his size...I think he will do well in the Red Zone to some degree, but gaining a great deal of separation in the NFL will be difficult for him, IMO...that doesn't mean that I don't think he will fall off the face of the earth, ala Maybin, but I don't think he will live up to the 1st round billing or even be close...I see him like a Brandon LaFell in terms of production

next big name to get cut or traded
BigBuff423 replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Graham is definitely one that would be hard-pressed to keep given the talent at WR and the fact that there are also guys like Hogan and Elliot who are bigger with better "upside" than Graham, unless Graham really refines a niche for himself on STs....as for Urbik, given the lack of depth on O-line, especially veteran depth, I don't think he gets cut...now, will he start if / when Richardson and or Henderson prove they can play?? Much different, and probably more salient question to development and overall Offensive line production....Pears is a guy who, like another Poster said, really depends on Hairston, IMO...if Hairston comes to camp healthy, hard to see Pears being kept -

Kouandjio owned that presser....I really liked his confidence and the way he handled himself..."I'm a winner", and that mentality he brings along with the other guys is exactly what this team needs....despite all the "experts" sh*tting all over this Draft, I think it's one of the best the BILLS have had in a long time, and that includes the Bryce Brown trade...it speaks to thinking for not only depth at RB in 2014, but planning for potential losses of either CJ or Fred, or both...love it! -

IMO, the BILLS would have won several additional games had EJ not gotten hurt....that Cleveland game was a turning point for EJ, up to the point of his injury. EJ looked like a bona fide 1st Round QB, not perfect but showing real progress from his first game to the Cleveland game. I remember thinking that EJ was progressing nicely...and then his knee. After that, EJ looked up and down once he did make it back, and again just didn't look like he was 100%...but, this year, is all about EJ. How he does, if he can stay healthy, does he show the progress the BILLS expect??? All valid and important questions to answer long before this time next year, as in...two weeks after the season is over and all game tape can be evaluated.

WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers

I think in my mind, what Woods did was not acceptable in all aspects: gamemanship, maturity, and leaving your team short-handed unncessarily, but he WAS a Rookie and we've all done things in the heat of the moment we regret, especially when we were just 22 or 23 years old. God, if all of my mistakes were on display from that time in my life, I would be a pariah no matter where I went. Life, and hopefully gleaning maturity and insight from our mistakes, help us evolve and develop a better pattern of behavior. Which, is the stickler for me with SJ. I gave him a partial pass for the "Why So Serious" antics and less than a partial pass for the Plax shooting debacle he demonstrated, but it became more and more of an on-field issues with "The Drop" against Pitt and then fumble issue vs. Atlanta and of course, the critical drop against the Patsies, not that making a mistake or two is unforgiveable but the breaking point was the KC game for me. After Tuel legitimately missed him wide open in the end zone, he threw up his hands in disgust like an 8 year old in Pop Warner...for a Rookie, it's coachable and a teachable moment, for someone who has been in the league and received a hefty payday despite the aforementioned issues early in his career, I expect more. So, if Woods continues to have these issues in a couple years, I will then begin to lobby against him due to lack of team integrity on game day and what it means....we reveal our greatest attributes and our darkest deficiencies of character in moments of pressure...to me, SJ revealed his several times over. I don't hate him, and I wish him well in San Fran, but I am also glad the team has acquired good to great talent at the WR position so the two can amicably part ways.... -

What I find amusing are people on this board who will say, "Take a 7th round flier on the kid and see if he can get it together with some motivation and professional help, and maybe getting out of Florida will do him some good. Worth a chance" and then the other half who say things like, "The BILLS are pathetic! They give this assh*le a chance, I don't care that it's the last pick of their Draft in the 7th Round! Losers!"....sometimes, often - ok, no, DAILY - this board is bi-polar and manic....so often I see people crucifying DW for making a trade and Drafting guys who fit both a need an are rated highly on their board (according to them of course) and then complain that the BILLS "do nothing to win"???? Or blame Whaley for something last year while not giving him credit for this year?? Honestly, I know we're all passionate about the BILLS and we all have our opinions on how to get this team winning, but it can't be unjustified prejuidice to simply believe something without reason if we're to have an honest discussion related to the BILLS and their improvement....to be fair, I like this move...it's exactly the kind of thing a "forward thinking, progressive" team does, they get the talent and then work with the man as a person to help him overcome some of the challenges he's faced...I'm not excusing his behavior, but there are always reasons and causes for things like repeated drug use...counseling and a strong leader might very well help this young man and a change of scenery might do him some good too....either way, I'd rather Draft this kid in the 7th Round over a kicker... -

Love this pick...not the price...but I suppose it's like trading in for a new, upgraded car: you just went from a Cadillac to a Bentley...sticker shock is a bit breath-taking at first, and then you drive it and forget all about the money it cost you to get it. -

And only time will tell, in fairness of disclosure - I really do like the RB and how the BILLS conducted the business to get him, plus they waited over a year and worked the deal to get it done, so they must have really wanted him and that means something in the long run - but, let's also keep in mind Arian Foster was an UDFA and a number of other good to great RBs go late in a Draft....don't mistake my optimism to be that I think Brown will resemble Foster in production, I'm just pointing it out to balance the fact that CJ's production and Draft position may not be correlated...JMO -

Hahaha!! Well, Kiper may not admit it, but some will have the humility to do so...that said, even if he doesn't say it on air, the rest of BILLS Nation will know.... -
RD3, Pick #73: Preston Brown ILB, Louisville
BigBuff423 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Preston Brown is directly on point with what the BILLS are trying to accomplish: a big, physical team that can beat you at the point of attack by power. This pick has "STOP THE FREAKING RUN!!!" written all over it....yes, Spikes is signed and I loved that signing and still do, but it's just a one year contract...maybe he resigns, maybe he doesn't...this is thinking of the future while giving the kid a year to learn the Defense and develop his game, Coaching him up. Additionally, IF Spikes decides to stay long-term Brown can play the SLB, as noted earlier and by many others, meaning you now have a Brown-Spikes-Kiko pairing that could be a real force to be reckoned with, depending on how Brown develops...either way, the BILLS addressed a need of getting bigger and harder hitting at the LB position, something they needed to do, not just with Spikes but overall....good to very good pick. Well done DW. -
This kid, might just be the steal of the Draft...I have loved what the BILLS have done in this Draft and really like all their picks, including the trade for Bryce Brown, but this might be my favorite pick because of what he represents: hell of a talent at a Draft position that is nowhere near representative of his future contribution to the team. Richardson's effect on this line, along with the other players, will be well documented by the end of 2016, the end of his second year. Great job by the BILLS!!

Regarding Draft value, this kid is Cordy Glenn 2.0....he will be a guy in two years, much like Glenn this year, where broadcasters and pundits alike will say, "Boy, the BILLS did one heck of a job grabbing him in the 2nd Round in 2014"....love this pick! -
Schefter: Eagles trade Bryce Brown to Bills
BigBuff423 replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love this pick...the BILLS used a 4th Round pick next year or a 3rd Round pick in 2016 (which means SJ had a good year for the 49ers and the BILLS get another 3rd Round pick which would be great) for a young, powerful and fast runner who can take over if / when CJ and / or Fred leave and more importantly, he can be the "next man up" if CJ or Fred go down with injury...I think people will be pleasantly surprised by how well Brown does for the BILLS....if CJ and Fred stay healthy, do I think he'll see the field a ton? Probably not, maybe 10 touches a game and in spurts, but that saves the legs of the other two and more importantly, THIS is exactly what many fans have been wanting from the BILLS for years...forward thinking, not reactionary for when CJ chooses to test FA next year or Fred gets injured or decides it's time to retire...either way, they built quality depth and allow for a succession plan, if necessary.... -
Kiper gives Bills low marks in draft
BigBuff423 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed...revisionist history...once again. Personally, I think the BILLS Draft - on paper as ALLLLL of them are right now - is arguably one of the best Drafts this year...now, giving up next year's 1st was a steep price, but then the BILLS don't invest in weapons for EJ and the whole world questions why...I also think for many Preston Brown in the 3rd was the sticking point for the Draft grade, and while I don't really know what his value was, be it 3rd, 4th or 5th round value, what I DO know is the BILLS have been all about one thing this off-season: getting better where they weren't all that good last year! Offensive line play and Stopping the Run....seems like the BILLS did address those two issues in this Draft, b/c even with the knocks on Brown, he's known to be a "thumper"... -
Kiper gives Bills low marks in draft
BigBuff423 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There was a Bleacher Report article a few days before the Draft that essentially busted Kiper and McShay on their projections and how wrong they've been over the last few years, not to mention decade....Kiper evaluates college players...GMs and FO staff evaluate Professional football players with a look at how college football players project to the NFL...to me, that would be Kiper's job description as well..but it seems he fails to understand the bridge or the gap between the two levels of competition making the assumpting that just because a player does well at the college level means he will at the NFL level, or even that a college player who had mariginal success at the college level won't become a really good player in the NFL...the college game and the NFL game are vastly different, which is why it is so difficult to project those who will play well and those who won't, so much is entailed.....but for there to be Draft grades a day later, is ridiculous...3 years later, ok, fair enough...otherwise, shut your pie hole and collect your abusrd salary for basically watching videos and then telling everyone what you think....that's a film critic, not a Scout.... -
This isn't the same BILLS making those calls...yes, Nix was the GM, but he summarily dismissed nearly all the scouts after that Draft...he came on in January of that year, so that Draft gets a mulligan in my mind...that's why this team suffered through so many bad Drafts, no football GM...those days are gone, see Whaley, Doug for number one example...but I understand the frustration from those days...don't get me started on Whitner over Ngata

We have gone this far, now complete the job.

Issue is, while I agree R OT needs to be addressed soon, i.e. 2nd or 3rd Round, I don't think the BILLS believe TE is as much a need as you think it is given Chandler, Moekai, and Gragg, not to mention the snoozer Lee Smith...and they had a ton of RBs and CBs in for a visit. That said, it all depends on who is still there when they pick, and I don't think they're trading up unless it doesn't cost them a Draft pick given how much they gave away in next year's Draft. It seems, they know they have to build quality starters in the next two Rounds and great depth in the following two, with their 6th essentially being Mike Williams. So, assuming one of the best 3 OTs are available, I think OT, then LB in 3rd, RB in the 4th, and DL / DE in 5th...now, IF the BILLS trade SJ, which I'm not sure happens until next year's Draft, then that would give them another 3rd or 4th....at which point it's possible, but even in the 5th, a guy like Gaines, if he's still there, hard to see the BILLS passing on him, but hey...it's the Draft, who the hell knows. -
To your first statement, I'd temper expectations until he plays... But to your second point, excellent perspective and I would have to agree, given that the BILLS are married to EJ at the present time. And to the OP's point, I agree. Since last year, I've been a DW supporter and so far it hasn't changed. The rest of this Draft is very, very important considering what the BILLS sacrificed, but I think he's going to do well.
