First: some of it is not Ebron per se, but the value of a TE. Historically, TEs just don't hold value in the top 10, with many of the best TEs being in 3rd and 4th Rounds, Gates, Graham, Witten, Jordan Cameron, Julius Thomas, etc...Gonzalez is the last 1st round TE to have really made an impact, Pettigrew anyone? Eifert? Now, Eifert - to be fair - may have a phenomenal 2nd year, but that's really my point...even Gronk was a 2nd and his homicidal cohort was a 4th Rounder...the best TEs, tend to be Drafted in the middle rounds due to their NFL particular skill-set and the freakish athletes at TEs, don't seem to transition well to the NFL and the good TEs usually take a year or two...in another thread I posted some of those same TEs first year stats, when discussing Gragg...it really is amazing.. Second: again nothing against Ebron personally, I just don't think he fits well with Buffalo and their Offense, within their Division. Many people talk about Graham like he's a god at TE, but he plays in New Orleans at an indoor facility in the NFC South, so he travels to Tampa Bay and North Carolina, not NE in December or play at home in the snow against Green Bay....and you can take a look at his numbers, they don't hold up "as well" in cold, snowy, rainy weather...there's a reason for that...his speed and athleticism in jumping make him a great target, but not for Buffalo...Buffalo does better with a C.J. Fiedorowicz type player, big body can block and catch but won't take the top off a Defense, find a seam and get a 7 yard catch run a couple yards to move the chains...and as much as I hate saying this Gronk, is the ideal type TE for Buffalo...it sucks, but true and a reason why he's doing so well in NE (well...that a guy named Brady) Third: I'm not sold on Ebron as the football player...I think he's truly gifted and has speed...but I don't like his drops, I question his ability to block and I'm not sure he'd be the type of player to come in line with a HC like Marrone...so, those are the three main reasons... Apologize, if I came off as bullish or just a plain a*shole, it's just all this Ebron love on this board drives me a batsh*t crazy....philosophically, not personally

The Bills are doing an excellent job in Free Agency
BigBuff423 replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And by your thinking, the first thing Harbaugh would have done with the 49ers, to trade Vernon Davis, because he failed to live up to his 8th overall billing...yet, a change in scheme and HC and Coordinator has done wonders for him...oh, and Alex Smith too...and a number of others....but, hey, if the player doesn't play well in their first few seasons, then they're all washed up / never had-beens / talentless wastes of space...yup, got it! -
Whoa...some of this I really disagree with....Byrd is a Safety...a dime a dozen of their position...there's a reason why the BILLS made a good offer to Byrd but were willing to stand-pat on their offer, because of Aaron Williams...now, a really good MLB is NOT a position that is easy to fill, especially one who is able to play multiple fronts and can be great against the run and not a complete liability in coverage...you may disagree about Spikes' capability in coverage, I just think he does fairly well....but MLB is by far the superior position in terms of signficance in Defense...like Byrd, dislike Byrd, overpaid, aptly paid - whatever, but Safety just isn't a position you invest too much of your shortened cap space to...and before you argue that the BILLS have a "ton" or had a "ton" of cap space, keep in mind this is the same board who rips the FO for not being proactive in signing guys like their LT, QB, DE...yet, DE is well paid, QB has yet to be determined, and LT - if Glenn continues to play as well as he did last year or better - has been solved and will need a payday shortly.... Oh, and on topic of the thread, I don't buy Whaley trading up....I think they want to trade down and gather picks in a Draft where OT and WR are deep and that allows them to Draft Defense in 1st round, LB or CB....
-
As for RB, I don't think the BILLS / Whaley would make that mistake again....but for DB, it is interesting that many of the visitors to OBD have been CB, indicating that position seems to intrigue them, sort of like last year when they had a bunch of QBs in for a visit....personally, if the BILLS were to trade down into the 20's, I think it's a real possibility and I think that's why they're having all the borderline 1st / 2nd round CBs visit....just a hunch / guess....but, I'm still holding to my theory that the BILLS trade with St. Louis from the 9 spot to the 13 spot and Draft Moseley....pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd...
-
Haha! I agree, which is one reason why despite it's unlikelihood, it does make "some" sense for the Browns...and I'm sure somewhere Greg Little is a bit despondent regarding your lack of approval
-
Personally, I don't think Watkins makes it past St. Louis, assuming they keep the 2nd pick....I think St. Louis needs an play-making WR to help Bradford out and given the depth at OT this year, they take one in 2nd round....now, IF, Watkins were still there at 4 and all it took was SJ and a 7th, along with exchanging picks of course, then sure, that would be "yes"...but, I just don't think it all plays out so easily.... And I find it interesting that an actual Cleveland fan believes this scenario is a positive thing for the Browns....thanks for sharing. Not disagreeing by the way, just interesting that you like the trade fantasy idea...

Buffalo Bills schedule released...
BigBuff423 replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this schedule is well balanced for the BILLS overall...and for those complaining about no Sunday night or Monday night games, keep in mind, IF the BILLS can win and become a team worth watching for the rest of the viewing nation, those Sunday games can get flexed, as early as week 5, to Sunday night...essentially, a primetime game on Sunday night is in the hands of the team...also, I like that the BILLS have an entire training camp and pre-season to prepare for an AWAY game against the Bears...one of my fears was that it would be a game on short rest in the middle of the season. Bears are for real, especially that Offense, so giving the Defense time to truly prepare only helps them...also, we find out quickly what QB the BILLS have on their roster, one who develops or one who regresses. Finally, I like ending the season against the Pats on so many levels and too many to add to this long post...but I also like the one home game in December, I think that's actually a positive thing...I also like Miami on a Thursday night and thank-freaking-God there is no Toronto game this year! Hope it stays that way...all in all, I like the schedule...hey, if we want the BILLS to prove they can be considered a contender, they got to put up or shut up...no more excuses -
At this point, I'm all in on Whaley....if he believes SJ is better served in the BILLS interests on another team with either a player or Draft pick or some combination of the two in return, then I'll accept it....given the WRs the BILLS already have on their roster and the plethora of WR talent available in the Draft, not just early but deep in the Draft, I would assume the BILLS have a plan in mind to replace SJ in some respect or another while obtaining value elsewhere, ala trade with Philly for their 1st Round DE they were trying to trade a few weeks back....not suggesting, just giving an example...in the end, I trust Whaley....that's bottom line for me.

My heart just sunk - RE: Kelly's cancer battle
BigBuff423 replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bruh, I don't know your father, but he had my respect when you said, Marine and Police Officer...enough said....any man / woman that does those two things, has earned my respect....regardless of anything else, those two positions (one of which I have real familiarity with) have one thing in common: your life and service for the good of others....that alone, generates respect and to some degree, honor....sorry about your father and the way he passed, but not knowing him or you, even sorrIER that a man like that is no longer on earth, being an example to all of us...best wishes -
But it's really more about dragging the Tim Graham carcass out of the grave once again...some people have issue with Tim Graham, ok - that's cool, go with God Bro, but to bring THAT subject up...AGAIN!!!!....in this thread, I mean really?? Can't some of us just grow the f*ck up and leave well enough alone...I mean really??? jw went out of his way to make a statement of contrition that is probably unnecessary but a truly nice gesture of peace and harmony on a board all too often focused on the differences rather than rallying around the idea that being a BILLS' fan is a dying breed...literally...the people who are BILLS fans are getting older and the younger generation is migrating to the JETS, Giants, Patsies and leaving their fan-dom for the BILLS behind...so, do we REALLY have to drag the God forsaken Tim Graham argument and debate up all over again?? Jimmeny Christmas, the NFL is about to unveil the 2014 Season, Draft is just a couple weeks away, BILLS have spent the Off-season truly improving even after Pettine and Byrd walked (or ran) away, and RW passed away (sadly, but not tragically given his age) and there is so much more to be excited about / sad and pissed off about, i.e. Jimbo's battle with that devil of a disease, and jw comes on to offer a nice break from the cynicism and nastiness that permeates this board daily and someone pulls the skeleton of Tim Graham out of the closet....AGAIN!.....enough! Just....enough! go to Twitter, write the Buffalo News an Op-Ed letter, send emails to anyone who will listen to your beef with him, for whatever reason, but for the love of God, could that please be the end of it??
-
^^^^aaaaaaaaaaaand, there's that....how's it possible for a gentleman to make an honest attempt to offer a statement of humility only for it to be turned once A-FREAKIN-GAIN back to Tim Graham?? Let....it.....go dude.... I too am in the dark about the need for an apology, but regardless - your gesture is appreciated even though, and it doesn't appear that I'm alone with this thought, I don't think an apology was warranted unless something occurred to a specific person I didn't see (entirely possible with the holiday weekend)....however, class is frequently a vapor of a rumor on this board so to see it from a professional is outstanding...thank you for taking the time.

Please Vote for our Pick in Fan Mock!
BigBuff423 replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't like any of the options at 9 overall, but if I HAD to pick out of those 9, I think the BILLS go with BPA: C.J. Moseley. I just don't think Whaley's background suggests that he values TEs that high, and all the others aren't even close to having a value at 9 for one reason or another...I don't think Moseley does either, to me he's a 13 to 18 value, but none of the others available to vote for come close in my mind. -
Feel free....flame away...but at least my post is obviously low-brow humor...your Mock Draft 1.0 lures unsuspecting victims into something a fan thinks actually has thought, creativity and effort behind it...instead, just more b.s. about wanting JFF....ok, you're a fan and you obviously don't think EJ has it...fair enough...but couldn't you have come up with a different title or just contributed additional thoughts in a very long thread about EJ already??

BigBuff423 replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm on the "wait and see" bandwagon for EJ (that is until this time next year), but Marrone's first act in the Off-Season was to fire the WR's Coach...so, that might be an indication the BILLS staff would disagree about the "biggest problem" on Offense...seems to me if HC thinks WRs are the main issue, especially since it transcended all 3 starting QBs, the WRs and lack of good route running and separation *might be worth evaluating before you so concretely stamp the QB as the biggest problem.....just a suggestion. -
This....is almost as bad as the Peter Pan sh*tting on the podium at the BILLS pick....wonderful job, insightful, great deal of foresight here....

Most likely it was due to the tenor of your statements / questions and that you never know what the race / gender / ethnicity is of the person you're responding to and to carefully consider the sensitivity of the issue....alleged rape vs. a potential indulgence in alcohol as a coping mechanism is very different, to that extent we agree...it wasn't your statement or even your question to Cleveland Rocks? that caused me to take notice, it was more the *way it was done....but, that's just my take. -

Actually, I've purchased a few of his ties at Macy's....not bad really...some of them have a contemporary design and if you hit the sales right, price is good... -

Posting and drinking apparently don't mix well for you....better to let a cooler head prevail and carefully examine what your intentions were / are when asking some questions about a potentially violent crime toward women versus a questionably volatile, immature young man who has improved his off the field behavior.... -
Well, on field penalties for stupid things, giving up on the KC INT for a TD last year, and in general terms of character that seems to be contrary to a "team" first mentality...you are correct in that he hasn't been arrested or flamed the people or city of Buffalo or BILLS fans, I should have been more specific in my statement and failure to do so was in large part due to hastiness, my apologies...but his character, to me at least, is one that is questionable. He seems to like Buffalo and I give him credit for producing on a team when many didn't and some still haven't, but those general character issues remain for me...but, again, I was in essence defending the guy, so let's keep that in perspective too...

BigBuff423 replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would have been lauged off this board, but the QB I was really hoping would make it to FA so the BILLS could sign him as a quality back-up was Henne...I think the kid has performed very well given the abysmal situations he's been in on the Fins and Jags...and from someone who's had WRs in his FF team with Henne at the helm compared to the QBs he took over for, his WRs performed much better, consistently...I'm not saying Henne is the long-term answer or to replace EJ with Henne, but if EJ has another injury, to me, Henne would have been a great guy to plug in and the BILLS could have played well on Offense and he has been relegated to the back-up role for a few years so he wouldn't have pushed for a starting opportunity and just been ready to compete if called upon...and considering he's sitting in Jax, I don't think it would have been too difficult to bring him to Buffalo...but, he probably sees the "hope" of starting in Jax and wanted to stay...oh well, time will tell.... And there's no taking anything away from what Pete Carroll has done, it really is remarkable...but, this will be the first year that the players coming into the Draft he will not have had a true first hand knowledge of from scouting and recruiting to get to USC to evaluating his college opponents...last year, was his last year of having the luxury of inside information and knowledge of many of the college players declaring for the Draft and having his own notes and recollections of some of those players since he was recruiting some of them for USC and then preparing to face some of them in college games...given they were probably freshman, but information still....and Pete was a great recruitor and evaluator of high school talent....this year, the NFL gets a chance to see if he can continue that success..... -

Yeah, many times (Levy anyone) great coaches don't make great FO men....and great FO men, don't make great coaches...they're entirely a different skill set and the nuances of such are very different...I think of Darcy and the Sabres, he could scout talent, but making business decisions and when to call up prospects and how to manage a roster...woof! IMHO anyways...
