To be fair, you have to put that statement in context: the author indicated such assessment according to their first 32 starts and later said that Kelly already had three years in the USFL...so strictly speaking, he was accurate with his indications of "statistics", not necessarily their effect on the team or ability to win, just how they fared in passing statistics....I think I understand your over-arching point, but we have to look at the author's statements in context of what he / she is saying...JMO

I suppose, reluctantly, that supports the notion that EJ should be given the entire year of the 2014 NFL season to demonstrate his true potential...and I'll certainly admit the last game was much improved over the HOF game...but my issue has been, this team is at the near critical mass stage of making the playoffs and I would hate to see them miss the playoffs yet again due to poor QB play...all that said, if EJ gets the rest of this NFL season to show what he is or is not, I can't really complain (well, I will but it will just be the 2 year old in me stomping my feet) but hope beyond hope, that IF EJ doesn't show marked improvement and be that "above average" QB, then DW will pull out all the stops and locate the true Franchise QB for the BILLS - whatever his name might be or what college he is currently attending or went to or where he maybe on a depth chart currently elsewhere...b/c this damn QB carousel needs to come to a grinding friggen halt!!

To some of the previous posters who've suggested either because they think so or presume Marrone to do so, that Glenn is moved to LG, I whole-heartedly disagree. I think Glenn has demonstrated that he can play very well to potentially elite at LT, arguably the second and at least the 3rd most significant position on Offense for a Right Handed QB...you simply don't fix what isn't broken, you leave Glenn at LT...now, Henderson played RT in college and God knows this team needs to solidify the right side of the line, and if in fact Henderson is really that good, you put him at RT and ask Pears to be the swing / backup tackle and as others have said, I would love to see CK at RG...his size and limited ability to go slide make him an ideal fit for RG...and Richardson can develop into that LG spot over the course of a year or two, or if he's good enough to move Williams off the line, then you have veteran depth...but for now, I leave Williams in there just so there aren't too many Rooks manning the Offensive Line...but to me, Henderson to RT is a no-brainer and CK to RG too...I would rather see CK struggle a bit with incomparable promise than see Legursky / Urbik take that spot, you know what you're getting, a sub-par RG position with virtually no hope of getting better. At least with CK, you can believe he will only improve as the year goes on and with Wood next to him, that would have to help his development...IMHO of course.

Nice article on Sammy in the Washington Post
BigBuff423 replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that's a fair assessment and if Sammy puts up those numbers and all other Offensive variables conclude as we hope or expect, that would make for quite a potent Offense given that Mike Williams could very well end up with very similar if not better numbers and with the emphasis on the Running game, it would mean this Offense produced to the rate of "Good" or "Very good"...so, if Sammy exceeds those expectations, I think this Offense becomes "Great", again based on all other presumed outcomes of the Offense.... -

Thank you....and all very true...or, you can take the approach Gugny and I did and simply work out our own resolution fairly and with good intentions while accepting the responsibility on our individual parts so that involving a Mod is unnecessary by treating each other with respect and ethical courtesy...not to get Gugny's ire back up to re-hash the whole incident but to me, it is an example of two gentleman doing their best to act as such....after, they in fact were not...anyways, opinions run hot and heavy in this board, and sometimes our tempers flare or our personal perspective outweighs normal reason and diplomacy, in the end we should remember that we are a brotherhood / sisterhood of fans banding together to fight against the negativity of outsiders and constant ridicule, to stand by the team with a positive outlook as often as possible and remain steadfast in our hope for a better team.... -
Fred speaks out against practices vs Steelers

While I respectfully disagree with both your premise and your conclusion, I do appreciate you taking the time to respond in a healthy manner. Thank you. And regardless of all our differences on this board, one single thread unites us all: GO F*KING WIN BUFFALO!!! -
Fred speaks out against practices vs Steelers
BigBuff423 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And fair enough, and I certainly understand a player's reluctance to accept such a style. However, given the plight of mediocrity this team seems to be stuck in, I can't discount Marrone's attempt at making some real changes, which often begin with attitude and perspective...so, Marrone is saying that the BILLS need to be a winning team and you're going to work your a*s off until they are...not original, but it frequently works...if it doesn't, it won't be for lack of effort....Also, and not that you were suggesting this but: if Marrone came in and ran Camp Cupcake, there would more than a few torches and pitchforks being thrown around on this board, or should I say more than usual.... -

I think I try to keep an open mind, most days, and from my perspective I give people a wide range of latitude when discussing various opinions, ideas, philosophies, etc...but you do seem to be on a mission RE: Marrone...and I'm not sure I understand why? Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their thoughts, but most times I do my best to understand someone's differing perspective from mine, if only to serve as a good way to question my own beliefs / opinions / thoughts, so please, without sarcasm, or incredulity provide me with your reasoning, if you don't mind, because I really am interested to find out how Marrone has irked you? As for the SJ reference, I don't want to begin a diatribe or a debate, so I will simply say, count me in the category of being happy he's gone, wish him well in San Fran, and even happier DW has found ways to put even better talent at WR thus far while yet to be determined.... -
Would you swap EJ for Manziel right now?
BigBuff423 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely not...the learning curve for a QB is generally quite steep and this year, the BILLS have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs, hell - maybe even winning the Division...in full disclosure, I'm not really a JFF fan and think that in the long-run he will hurt the team more than help it and probably be another example of a great college QB that didn't transition well to the NFL...maybe he will, maybe he'll be Johnny Unitas all over again, maybe he'll be similar to Ryan Leaf - all hype, no substance, or maybe he'll be Alex Smith: good when surrounded by other much better moving parts, but can't carry the team on his own, ala Brady, Favre, Rodgers, Petyon, etc....who knows, but for me, despite my doubts about EJ, I think he's in a better position *this* year to help the BILLS win! -

I take no issue with it, mainly b/c it IS FJax and he has been the consummate professional since arriving in Buffalo and otherwise plays hurt without complaints or excuses and produces on the field, on Game Day...so, he's a bit miffed at the tight schedule between games, practices, scrimmages, and another game...oh well, we don't all love our job every day, or for some, any day and we do it because it needs to get done...if FJax has this particular mind-set for the week, I don't give it a second thought...it sucks, but needs to get done and he'll do it...and next week, everyone's farting rainbows and sailing on liquid gold -
EJ looked calm and in control..
BigBuff423 replied to BackInDaDay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On Thursday and Friday, I was a strong advocate for keeping a close eye on EJ and allowing Tuel to rise up the chart *IF* Tuel kept improving and AND EJ continued to struggle...I'm happy to say, that EJ demonstratively showed that he is in fact improving, which is all I was asking for from him...so, I'm happy to take a less frenetic week on the EJ front and allow him another game against Pitt to take the next step and improve a bit more...I reserve judgment until the final week of practice, but if EJ continues his upward trajectory and shows consistent command of the offense while taking the Offense to score, I will be happy to put the Tuel non-sense to rest....I was encouraged, but not satisfied with his performance, and as such I expect EJ to take another important step forward but Friday's game against the Panthers was a marked improvement and hope he continues... -
And, even though you and I are clear - some who have not spent enough time reading all of my posts and responses which started yesterday may not be - I do want EJ to succeed and be that *Franchise* QB for the BILLS, I just have my reservations that he will be and that if he is in fact not that QB, AND - this is important part to my point - Tuel continues to develop and improve, then I would like to see what Tuel can do...but, I sincerely hope beyond hope it NEVER comes to that or ever even becomes a question, that from tonight moving forward EJ shows us all that he can and will be that QB of the future, not perfect but getting much better....
-
First, my only point was that if EJ doesn't prove it through 4 Pre Season games and Camp why not give Tuel a chance with the 1st in the final game? That was the extent of my point, yesterday and in this thread...as for "Get on board or get off", why make it personal? I have as much right to believe something different as you do to being absolutely convinced that EJ is the QB for the next decade...let's just leave it at, we're both rooting for the BILLS to win every single game, no matter how that happens...10 field goals, or 6 TDs returned from punts, I don't care...as long as they win...

I'm great with differing opinions, it's something I love about this board and as you stated America in general, it's the finger-pointing, five year old bullying antics that I have no patience for and won't tolerate for myself or anyone else...we disagree, it's cool, I'm good...my life is far more significant off this board than on it and anyone who has ever truly read my statements or had a discussion with me outside of football in the Shoutbox know that, so I'm passionate about the BILLS, but I also respect each person's perspective...until they make it ugly and personal
-
I do, but EJ was inconsistent, as was Tuel, last year and that's why I ended my statement the way I did, which was that both needed to improve greatly and it's been Tuel who's shown the greatest improvement thus far....and so practice and Pre Season is all we've got in order to make that determination
-
That would be me Sir...feel free to put my name on top of that list and *hope* that EJ becomes the QB this team needs by Week 1 against Chicago...btw, calling me a moron doesn't invalidate my opinion, it only serves to highlight your own insecurities...as for "looking better than EJ", that's what all reports have said, from Chris Brown, to Mike Rodak to others who have observed camp - such as those on this board and a friend / co-worker of mine who made it out to camp before the first Pre Season game....rail away, yell louder if you like, your opinion does not nullify my own...I've been a gentleman and haven't resorted to pejorative terms, and will take the high-ground to simply say, as of right now we disagree...I do hope EJ is the guy, but by all accounts EJ has looked "shaky" at best...and Tuel has thus far, been a better practice QB, Pre Season game QB, and that's all there is to go on b/c IMHO both those QBs needed to show a great deal of progress and development and so far only Tuel has shown demonstrative improvement...IMO along with those others mentioned above...
-
Yeah, well complaining is what I felt like doing and will damn well do it if I want...as far as the process, I assume it will take longer than I want it to, but I just would rather not hear about it every single day because it continuously brings up the naysayers and pessimists about how the BILLS are moving, or there's a conspiracy to get them to Toronto or whatever the hell their tin foil hats are telling them...but, and you don't know me or follow my posts, I'm rarely one to complain about nearly anything, so forgive me the few moments to do so about listening to every time a new bidder enters the fray and what their intentions may be, when nearly all involved simply want Pegula to pay a fair market value and assume the team, as it would appear that's the end game anyways...
-
I realize the Wilson estate is due as much as it can get in the sale of the team, and God knows I'm grateful for RW for BILLS football and for doing a great deal to insure long-term commitment to the Buffalo and WNY area, but could this all end please?! I hope the estate and trust group see Pegula's bid as the only true, legitimate bid that will pay them fair market value for the team, while having an owner with chops and credibility to demonstrate his desire to not only keep the team in Buffalo for the purposes of languishing in the NFL, but to a real commitment to being a champion caliber team and franchise.....

^^^THIS!!!!! By an overwhelming quadrillion!! If EJ is the QB of the future, awesome, the BILLS have found a bonafide QB to lead them into the Playoffs...if not, and Tuel is the guy based on performance and not name or Draft status, then awesome the BILLS have unearthed a bonafide QB to lead them into the Playoffs...at this point, given the state of the Franchise and how this team has talent and some depth at nearly every position, the QB issue IS the issue that will determine how this team does in 2014. So, let the actual best Man/QB win!

Just my two cents (probably worth less than that) is that Marrone et al. are working very hard at trying to change the culture of "losing" with the Buffalo BILLS and frankly, I haven't seen this type of passion from a BILLS HC regarding Pre-Season, maybe ever? So, considering that doing something and being something *different* than what we fans are used to, is exactly what it will probably take to overturn this presumptive, lethargic acceptance of losing - I'm all in...that's not to say the pressers aren't difficult to watch, b/c they have been the last few days, but IF - and it's a huge a*s IF - this kind of zeal and relentless pursuit of excellence includes not accepting a loss in the Pre-Season as a prerequisite to turn the tide and begin a culture of WINNING, then I will support Marrone's endeavor, even if I don't have empirical evidence to demonstrate it's working....yet. Because, for all the milquetoast - panty-waste - limp-wristed b.s. I've seen over the last 14 years, at least this man has the simmering passion to get this team off it's back and fighting like any team caught in the one of the worst playoff droughts in the history of the game should!! Let Marrone's displeasure boil over, on to the team and player leadership, and let's light a fire under their collective bums and hope this woeful display of mediocrity can be squashed to pieces this year!!

I'm officially worried about Cordy Glenn
BigBuff423 replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe he had a vasectomy....and any strain for several weeks is a real risk...just a suggestion -
Not to mention, could you see Glenn-Richardson-Wood-CK-Henderson?? If Cyril Richardson comes on next year...?? That would be nice, along with Pears, Williams, Urbik doing depth / back-up duty...
-
First, he deserves a 2nd year because it's impossible to assess a coach's capability in the context of a single football season...as to the 3rd, you're suggesting a 3-13 record without putting any of that in context...did EJ regress? Were there multiple injuries other than the one known? Were 5 of those losses on last second field goals? What is the whole story is my question...now, if Marrone goes 3-13 with everything the way it is right now, I think the biggest issue I would have would be did he stick with EJ through the whole season or at some point near mid-season if EJ was stinking the place up, did he give Tuel a chance? If not, and he rode EJ out, then I seriously question his ability but he still gets a 3rd season with *THAT* season being the hot seat, and if he did give Tuel a chance and the results were the same, what was the Offense's capability, and is the simple solution DW accepting the fact that EJ is NOT the guy and the BILLS need to get "their" QB of the future, because to me that's the only question truly remaining for this year...who is EJ? is he the Franchise QB of their future, or another unfortunate tale of talent unrealized?? Either way, barring something truly unforeseen, Marrone gets this year and next year with this year being the determining factor as to what *his* expectations are regarding how this team performs...you don't fire a coach after 2 seasons unless there is statistical and anecdotal evidence to support such a termination, and no a W-L record isolated in a vacuum does not warrant such a thing in the first or second year...Remember, Sean Payton went 3-13 with Drew Brees before they took over 1st place in the NFC South the following year and haven't looked back since....
-
If this were the regime of old, you may have a legitimate concern. But by all accounts, DW and of course Marrone value depth at key positions, such as Offensive Line, and having multiple quality starters is one of the smartest things they can, and probably will do...so I would think Glenn gets the contract he's earned in a year or two and Henderson finds his way into the starting line somewhere, RT or LG or RG if he continues to play well and grow and develop like he has...Marrone didn't sound all too pleased with either Henderson or Cyrus, but I also think we all have to be patient with their development...first game of their NFL careers with basically a short period of time to prepare, all things considered.
