so how will they be filling the remaining 49 minutes??? Ok, ok...easy and cheap shot....nice to see them get some air-time just before Training Camp opens...man, for some reason (not related to the sale of the time), this season *feels* more important than nearly any other in the last 30 years.... -
Never realized this, but Marshawn Lynch is fat!
BigBuff423 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To each his own, but I've seen the picture (not my preference per se), but you may want to adjust your idea of "fat"....take a trip to Wal-Mart on the 1st to 3rd of any month and take a long look around...that, would be a more accurate representation of what "fat" truly is, IMHO.... -
It wasn't a criticism, just a statement of the obvious and wanted to add to the pile of saying it seems to be the pervasive opinion....

No big leap of faith here, but agreed.

And here's the key to those mid to late 1990s teams: George Steinbrenner was banned from baseball during the preceding years, preventing him from trading the best of their farm system. And lo and behold, they became the core of those teams: Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera...Bob Watson doesn't get enough credit....since his return, and Cashman despite saying he would do differently, continue to trade players in the farm for has-beens and guys on their way out of the league just for a name or a perceived instant impact player b/c they don't have the patience to let their young guys develop...case in point, Austin Jackson, 5 tool player they traded for Curtis Granderson...Navarro, Cabrera, and countless others that are playing in the Bigs now, that were Yankees on Draft day....that's why I can hardly watch a game anymore, that and Rodriguez just spoiled the whole thing for me for a while, and Clemens....uggh!!

And while Tom Brady, often rightfully so, gets so much credit for being a 6th Round Draft choice and the "ultimate" QB, I love how KW gets overlooked taken one round earlier several years later...also, many times on this very message board people post thoughts leading up to the Draft how "no one good comes after the 3rd Round" and no matter how many times some of us try to post rational and statistical evidence to the contrary, they come up with some other b.s. reason why it is invalid...I find vindicating to see KW get the recognition he deserves as had he played for Green Bay, or the Saints, or NE or even the Jets, he would have been rightly heralded long ago...

+1....sometimes, it's just laziness that breeds pessimism.

WVAU TV Marcel Dareus arrested-edit-again

I'll say this, that I know first-hand, in New York State one of those court intervention programs in an effort to reduce a felony is called Drug Court - which every state has in one capacity or another, and it's an effective program for helping people who truly want to be drug-free and live clean and sober, but...and here's the caveat, most of the time, if a person fails to complete the program, the consequences are enhanced for the offender, meaning in such a case, a person may get Probation with front-end jail time - a felony in NYS for a drug crime is 5 years of Probation - but in an intervention program, b/c they are being afforded an opportunity to avoid jail and / or Probation at the on-set, their alternative could be one or more years in jail or prison...just for the debate and add some NYS perspective to the discussion...not for or against, just providing some info...FWIW -
Cleveland Browns' Draft Picks
BigBuff423 replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To your first statement / question: the answer is YES! If as a GM / Owner I've just spent a first round pick on my QB of the future, yes, yes, yes...I want him in the playbook, in the training room, abso-freakin-lutely committed to being the very best on the field at all times....now, if this were Aaron Rodgers, or Tom Brady, or one of the Mannings, no, my expectations wouldn't even come close to that...but you're a Rookie QB trying to show you have the leadership and maturity to be the NFL Franchise QB for a struggling team and need to command the players' respect just as much as anything else...and you can argue that such respect will come on the field, and I agree...ONCE he gets ON the field, but until then, *THIS* is all they have to go by...once you've accomplished something, you can act like you've arrived but until then, you need to keep your head down and work at it...also, don't tell me Cleveland doesn't have a ton of things to do on Memorial Day weekend...Vegas, it is not, but that's a good thing...JMO -

By the way, is it really a shock to anyone that Marcell was in a race to the front of the line for a buffet?? Just wondering.... -
If he can stay healthy, I really believe EJ is that guy for several reasons: maturity, second year in the Offense and full Off-Season, and new weapons to help him, plus an upgraded Offensive Line (presumably)... But Woods, A. Williams, and Gilmore are honorable mentions as others have noted... Dark horse: Gragg

In general, I agree with your overall point...I don't think the BILLS should take as much heat as they get for *not* having a Veteran back-up IN FRONT of Manuel...Kolb was brought in to be the 1st and possibly 2nd year starter for the BILLS, with the idea they would nurse EJ along and allow him to mature into the starter; exactly how many Vet QBs were the BILLS supposed to bring in?? And how many would want to know there would be competition with Kolb at the beginning and then EJ in the second year, along with Kolb? Vet QBs want to go somewhere they feel a really good to guaranteed chance to play, which is why Kolb chose Buffalo, he knew their plan and wanted to play and at least, prove to the NFL he could play long-term, even if the BILLS didn't think so...as it turns out, he cannot...but who else should the BILLS have brought in?? What other better options were there?? And for the same fans who blame the BILLS for not brining in another Vet QB to back-up Kolb and step in when he was injured - how many of those same fans would be screaming about letting EJ play to "find out" what the BILLS have in him? I can hear the fans saying, "Might as well! What could it hurt?!".....long way of saying, the BILLS did their diligence and then made the most of what was left after the injuries occurred, IMHO of course...

I'm willing to give Hackett another opportunity to demonstrate what he can do with a relatively healthy Offense and another year in the NFL, not to mention two key assistants in Hostler and Downing working with EJ...I'll reserve judgment until this time next year as to whether I'll be singing his praises or hanging him in effigy outside my work window...

This is what I've been saying all along, that others have shouted me down for...that Marcell's issues are not simply youth run-amuck, they are not just indiscretions that can be relegated to some immaturity or police officers blowing things out of proportion...these are representations of deeper, systemic issues for Marcell and I wish him well...I would like to see the BILLS get him some help, IF he truly wants the help and is willing and motivated to make the effort to address these underlying causes for concern...substance abuse, and yes, that includes marijuana in cases like this, are revelations of deeper problems as many have said, he's dealt with a great deal of tragedy in a relatively short period of time over the last few years, and this is most likely what is causing the larger problem....but, I have to like Marrone for this approach. I'm not sure it's the wisest choice of words to say he would rather lose if it means not helping a guy, but I truly admire his heart and desire to help one of his players through a difficult and challenging stage of his life...

WVAU TV Marcel Dareus arrested-edit-again
BigBuff423 replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And that's fair in my mind...it was really just a "when" is enough and to try and put it in some quantifiable statement...I agree, that Dareus should be allowed to let this process play out and put him on the field to play ball, but at some point, all of this will be too much if it continues... And that's also a fair point, but to me, in a real world scenario smoking / using marijuana is significant less criminal than leaving the scene of an accident, Reckless Endangerment 2nd (still a Misdemeanor in NYS but it encompasses a wide number of potential crimes), and felony possession of a synthetic substance in another state...also, from a mental health standpoint, with a felony pending in Alabama, shouldn't he be at home every night drinking milk and eating cookies before bedtime while studying the playbook and avoiding further legal complications?? It just makes sense to go the extra mile (no pun intended) to make sure you're being on your best behavior....for both legal and NFL reasons...IMO And, to the cutting of Allen, I agree with the Giants' decision but that's just my belief that a guy can only get so many chances before you let him wither on the vine, ala Gordon in Cleveland. -

BigBuff423 replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Giants cut Will Allen yesterday, and while I'm not advocating for the BILLS to cut Dareus, it starts to beg the question when is "enough" simply "enough"?! I like Dareus as a football player, but as I posted much earlier in this thread, I believe the young man needs some real professional help, and I hope he can get it...b/c regardless of laymen's perception, these types of self-destructive actions are not just a "young man being young and foolish", they are deeper revelations of more disturbing problems...for the BILLS, I hope he can course correct appropriately, for himself as a young man, I hope he can heal and being to develop into a functional adult... -
Fair enough to want to wait and see how these WRs perform, but are you really comparing the current WR corp to that of Donald Jones, SJ, and David Nelson?? Chan Gailey's Offense was productive based on his scheme, but for posterity's sake, I'll take EJ Manuel, Mike Williams, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Goodwin with a dash of Chris Hogan or Ramses Barden or Kevin Elliot over the previously mentioned WR group....they haven't proven anything, but when this team seemed to take one scrub after another - save SJ - to try and produce an adequate WR group, this ONE looks the part of a professional gathering of pass-catchers and a playmaker or two...

Time to look at Jermichael Finley
BigBuff423 replied to Buffwagonscircled's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except for the term "stud", I agree. -
With the Off-Season moves the BILLS made in trading for Mike Williams and then trading up for Sammy, this move to me was a foregone conclusion...also, Woods is a prototypical slot WR in size and skill-set...add in Goodwin and all of a sudden the BILLS WR corp has become a strength instead of a weakness...
-
Hence, my reluctance...but since another poster set the precedent, figured I'd chime in...but, fair enough...I should just let the grudge go RE: Byrd, but it's still tasting awful in my mouth...looking for something to wash it down with...anyways, I'll bow out at this point.

Big Buff vs. over-paying for Byrd...wait..um...nah, I'm good
