  1. I'm interested in the idea but your banking A LOT on CK being able to actually hold down that LT spot with not a lot of evidence to support it. I get that CK looked pretty decent/ above average in spot duty at LT this year. That's different than every snap, all 16 games. A lot of trust... Also semi short sighted bc if CK looks good at LT next year he's gone the very next year bc your not paying two tackles LT money (and I think CK is in contract year)
  2. well the locals yesterday reported that the Bills were going to interview AVP - and then this morning that was rebuked....so perhaps the same thing happened with Greg Olsen (yea sure hes being interviewed by the Bills...oh wait, hes taking the QB coach job in LA - he has passed on the Bills, when in reality maybe the Bills never intended to interview him at all, let alone for the OC job)
  3. I ask this in seriousness...how do we know, other than Vic or Sal, that there actually was an interview set up with Olsen? I mean I know those two reported it, did OBD ever come out and say they set up an interview with Olsen? I do not trust media, especially local media...aside from maybe Wawrow (even though he is annoying and has horrible taste in music), so I believe nothing until after the fact
  4. absolutely what happens with these WGR-ites
  5. Exactly this....local reporters like Sal and Vic are pissing me off with their tweets about Olsen passing on the bills...he would only have been passing on the bills if we offered him the OC job and he instead took QB coach job out west. We didn't offer him jack, and I really do think he knew we didn't want him as OC (QB coach).
  6. WGR is the worst thing for the Bills and Sabres - it gives thoughts to the thoughtless and riles them up into a frenzy It's like Fox News for the uber conservatives (I'm neither so don't start talking politics at me) Settle down and let the offseason play out without hitting the panic button, Jesus
  7. Why the F is this entire thread about Rex!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! Rex is gone!!!!! Either can this shitttttttt talk about him or change the god damn thread title to something more appropriate Most people click on a thread based on a title and enter expecting one thing, THIS is not as advertised and highly annoying
  8. My love for Mahomes is well known here, so I'll keep this brief Yes mahomes has his flaws - virtually every QB to ever be drafted has them - but he has enough intangibles when it counts I think. Pros - super strong arm, not just deep passes, but the dude throws it into tight spaces as best as I've ever seen (Favre), and this is usually off his back foot! Imagine what he could do when actually taught to step into his throws. - he has pretty advanced presence in the pocket. He feels pressure and is more than mobile enough to escape it. He doesn't take off early either, he hangs tough. - he is tough. He doesn't get hurt even though he does run frequently. - he seems to have "it". Teammates and coaches love him as a leader - he actually makes reads and goes through progressions!!! I promise you of that! That won't be an adjustment he will have to make (any more than other QBs who aren't "system" guys). He does this and does this well!!! I know it's hard to overlook that he is a "system" QB....but others have overcome that in the NFL. It's hard to overlook some games where he looked pretty terrible at times (West Virginia game in particular). It's hard to overlook his awkward footwork and bottom half of throwing motion. But again, all of these warts can be overcome, or don't need to be because he is just a good QB who has got it done and I trust will at the NFL level. A lot of his problems have also been reported to have come because of his equal focus on baseball until recently. He can be taught properly. As of right now I believe will be gone in the first round, we would have to take him at 10, trade back (would rather take an impact player) or trade back into the bottom of the first round and take him if we want him (hell yes I would give up next years 1st). He was given a round 1-2 grade by draft advisory board. I guess it was not as short as I promised above, my bad....but let's draft us some mahomes!!!
  9. dude whaley has been here for four years, he and Nix were forced to draft a QB in a terrible draft (this happens all the time to every team, because you NEED a franchise QB to be successful and there are only like 8 of them in the NFL at any given time) and took the best one they thought (and were right, they all sucked but EJ was/is the best). Since then they took a shot at TT to fill that spot, and he only helped the offense become a top 10 scoring offense...some would argue Whaley HAS addressed the QB position to the best of his ability Even if we get rid of TT (I dont think we should) we should add a QB via FA and the draft, and probably will, so lets not rush to judgement there
  10. id love him, except he will almost certainly either A) go with kyle shannahan to the 49ers as his OC or be promoted in Atlanta as OC...either way, not Buffalo
  11. I would rather go with some possible up and coming OC, someone who is a QB coach or TE coach elsewhere that has been working his way up and shown promise, than a retread.
  12. I think it will be more like let Gilmore go, and use that money to bring in two CBs AND a good number 2 WR....McDermott has had great success with sub par talent at CB in his schemes
  13. Cyprien is the type of FA im talking about us going after, and paying him 8 mill isnt that far off from Berry getting 10 mill I wouldnt be the least bit surprised that we dont tag gilmore, so throw all that money back into the pool, and suddenly, miraculously that "14 mill" we have left turns into 20 plus mill...still plenty of room to sign any FA we wish. Will we sign Alshon Jeffrey or Eric Berry? Probably not, but its not because we dont have the room, its because it doesnt make economic sense for those players....guys like Cyprien (perfect fit for McD's D) or Desean Jackson, or Pierre Garcon or Tony Jefferson, guys that are no way "second tier FA" - except maybe by MAJ definition, and maybe thats where we differ? - are all reasonable to expect us to offer/go after Top 20 FA??? There arent 20 FA in this market that will demand any type of top dollar...maybe 5-8 guys-ish will get over paid, and ill be glad the bills dont throw their hats in that ring Bottom line: we will improve our roster and money will not be an issue to do so I believe he means thats money (10 mill plus) we wont have to tie up to one player so its money that we can use for other players...I could be wrong though
  14. yea we can revisit this convo after free agency
  15. lol - you need a basic finance class son
  16. 30 mill is a lot of money man, we need to sign a bunch of guys, many of which will be on very cheap contracts (thats the nature of filling out a roster)... this is similar to the charles clay contract year...."theres no way we can afford someone like him" - BAM, we not only can afford him but we over pay for him too...if we want a player, ANY player in FA, we can afford to sign them
  17. yes McDermott will certainly adapt to what we have on the roster, which is the beauty with him....however, the true Jim Johnson defense, that he has ran in the past in Carolina and obviously philly, relies on solid safety play, especially helping in the run game. I dont know why you dont think we cant afford any FA in the top 20 though, that is ridiculous we are/will be flush with cash (even if we pick up TT option)
  18. KC is in terrible cap shape, I don't know if they will be able to afford him...if they do they will be letting others walk (maclin for starters). With our new D, we will need to spend on great safeties, Gilmore is expendable with the zone schemes
  19. Can Lawson take on a double team in the run game? I havent seen that from his game and that would worry me strongly...one thing about this D, and mentioned in the article, is the front 7 dont all do their jobs it can be gashed in the run game Ragland showed good blitzing ability at Alabama
  20. This. The article has a nice illustration of a zone blitz concept, and shows what would be Lawson/Hughes most likely dropping into the middle of the zone coverage to replace the blitzing mike...we have the DE in that technique nailed down, its the run stuffing DE I worry about having to find/develop (Can Worthy do it? Can Washington? That would be best case scenario)
  21. The beauty of this defense is you do not need great CBs, you need CBs who are comfortable in zone coverage. Jim Johnsons/McDermott's CBs have had a knack of playing "above their skill", meaning they get the best out of average CBs. There is a market in FA this season for average CBs so I could see us letting Gilmore walk and picking up some FA CBs to run the zone coverages. Im actually not worried about CBs at all. Safeties we will need to address, luckily theres a great FA market for safeties as well as at #10 possibly with Adams/Hooker (might both be gone though, but the safety draft class is deep). FA and draft most likely to address this. LBs, maybe add Klein from Carolina. Maybe resign Zach Brown. Going to add some LB.
  22. Here is a well written primer from about 5 years ago, leading up to McDermott's second year on the job as DC of the Panthers...goes into detail of terminology and ideas within the system. With the addition of Frazier as the DC for us next year, someone who is very experienced running this style of defense, I fully expect this to be our base. After watching Rex's lazy defense for two years, this should be refreshing! " Defense that thrives on overwhelming the opponent with zone blitzes, creating mismatches among the offensive line and the front seven." http://www.catscratchreader.com/2012/2/28/2831884/the-panthers-defense-a-treatise-on-the-jim-johnson-4-3-part-i Some questions: who plays the 7 technique / c gap strong side? Needs to be a run stuffing defensive end more so than anything...do we have one on the roster? It has been hinted in the media that Washington could get kicked out to that role, but is that really a role suited for him? He did not shine this year to say the least. Can Lawson fill the roll with jerry playing the 9 tech opposite to provide pressure and hold the edge weak side? Linebackers seem to be an entirely different issue...I'd imagine we add a free agent or two....interesting stuff
  23. well, thats a good list, and one will have to be available because at least two QBs will be picked before our pick...its the NFL
  24. woah he admitted he was wrong?????? it WAS a full moon this week and it IS friday the 13th...
  25. then why post anything at all? "Just came in to comment I am not going to comment in this thread" Thanks for the heads up guy. Thread response: It is an interesting stat...one piece of a huge narrative. It is extremely hard to evaluate any QB if you are not privy to about 50 different pieces of information. Thankfully we have an entire coaching staff devoted to doing this. Hopefully they come to the correct decision about TT future, and hopefully the money has nothing to do with it. Its the NFL, you overpay for QBs (overdraft, over pay) if your staff feels hes the right guy.
