  1. fair enough...we will have to disagree about Gilmore's worth to this defense
  2. Running zone schemes allows you to have average corners because they are only asked to cover areas instead of staying with a man. Gilmore does very well in man coverage, but he wont be asked to do that under McDermotts scheme...this is why historically, Jim Johnson and then McDermott have got great production from otherwise average DBs. Im not saying we need to replace Gilmore with someone as good, or someone worse, I'm saying we can get away with replacing him with someone DIFFERENT because scheme will allow it. I am sure Gilmore COULD succeed in McDermotts scheme, but we don't have a need to pay him to do so when we can get someone else to do it. Is Richard Sherman being paid to be a cover 2 CB? Is Patrick Peterson a cover 2 CB? There's no need to pay top dollar to a CB if your running a zone In an ideal world I would love to have Gilmore, regardless of system. This isnt an ideal world and if we want to upgrade the many needs we have, we could be better served spending that 14 million next year on other guys...like in the areas you suggest we need to spend resources on. If letting Gilmore go means we get a CB (cheaper guy who can be plugged into zone coverage), RT help, safety help or WR help...im in with that plan. Carolina's D had a lot more problems than just letting Norman walk. I also don't know why you state "we are already pretty much on board with taking a QB high" - that might end up being the case but as of now, I don't see where you are drawing that conclusion from. As of now we have TT as the QB which wouldn't necessarily mean we have to draft a QB high.
  3. glad you don't understand, but thanks for responding the point was, we don't know what the play is designed to do...there are literally plays where the call is something like this..."pre snap read tells you to look left side of the field (the 1 on 1 matchup/no safety help/zone soft spots) and if those options are covered, get what you can"...sometimes they call those plays that would not allow the other side of the field to be looked at because of protection calls, or to limit possibility of turnovers.. I know he misses guys that are wide open, that is fact. What is also fact is that we don't know EVERY INSTANCE of why those guys are being missed. What is also fact is all NFL QBs miss open guys...the NFL is hard, and playing QB is the hardest. Again though, fine with moving on from TT, also fine with keeping him...whatever the staff thinks will get the job done.
  4. totally different corners, Norman and Gilmore...Norman excelled in McDermotts scheme, Gilmore has never even whiffed a zone scheme like that. Cover corners get paid, Zone corners can be found cheap/created...no thanks to 14 mill a year. If we were staying in man coverage then hell yea Gilmore is worth it.
  5. I know how they compare based on previous conversations with you... I dont want to re-sign Gilmore, not based on talent, but based on team needs. McDermott has gotten great production from less than stellar corners previously....he also will likely run a zone, which doesn't require good cover man skills like Gilmore has. Why not let him walk, sign a cheap replacement who is good at zone coverage already, and use the money elsewhere? Gilmore is a luxury for us right now...id rather fill some necessities
  6. Good work Bandit, gracias. Best outcome of this draft, for me, regardless of what we do with TT....is take whatever impact / play maker we see fit in round 1 (preferably a WR or OJ Howard) and then draft Mahomes in round 2. I just dont think he lasts until then, but as I said...ideal situation.
  7. and through those all-22, did little captions come up that said "in this play call, it was designed as a half field read to the left based on pre-snap indicators" and the open WRs you saw were on the right side instead? The all-22 is great, and I watch them myself (in addition to being at home games and seeing guys wide open as well) - but it does not tell the entire story... Im not defending TT, at this point I truly dont care who is at QB next year, I just hope this staff and FO makes the RIGHT decision on the position moving forward...ill defer to their judgement because they have all the information and know a hell of a lot more about football than any of us fans
  8. much obliged, thanks
  9. he was quoting a mock draft I believe...so it isnt that he necessarily believes we are rebuilding, its just what the mocker (who likely knows nothing about the Bills) thinks we are in rebuild mode rebuild mode usually happens when the team fires its head coach, switches offense/defense system, is drafting in the top 10 and needs a new starting QB - the bills have almost all of those boxes checked off, and if we jettison Tyrod we will have all of those boxes checked off....so an argument COULD be made, especially from an outsiders point of view, that we are in rebuild mode
  10. Not attacking you so please don't take this that way.... You keep saying "the coaching staff saw progress throughout the year"...but do you have any evidence of this? Was this said it press conferences? Interviews? I was pretty in tune with those and only ever heard them specifically say that he was really struggling and then some source said he couldn't even handle running the practice squad (I cannot recall for the life of me where that report came from but I specifically remember it was from a reliable source). I know, and you don't give most bills fans credit - at least the fans I know and interact with - that he was drafted as a raw project with no hope of seeing the field for 1-3 years, but I was disheartened by the lack of progress alllllll year from cardale. So, if you could shed some light on where you had been hearing of actual progress that would make me feel better. Thanks in advance.
  11. Gunner, great work...obvious you put in a lot of time and thank you! I have watched every 2016 game from both Mahomes and Watson (the only two QBs I would even want the Bills to draft)...and have slightly differing opinions than some things you mentioned. Mahomes - you nail a lot of his negatives, "slingy"/atrocious footwork, but you say he does NOT throw guys open but instead waits for them to be open like Tyrod? I couldn't disagree more here. In all of those games mentioned there are more than a handful of passes where he does exactly that and throws a dart to a spot that his WR has to get to...thats throwing guys open... Also, I thought he did a great job keeping his eyes downfield when the pocket collapsed. Granted, he was scrambling legit like 70% of the time because his line was puke, so I'm sure sometimes he was in survival mode, but there are also plenty of times he makes incredible plays because he is keeping his eyes downfield. Interesting you did not watch the WVU game, which was not quite a train wreck for him, but it was not a good showing against a pretty GREAT D...he did make some great decisions/throws/plays, but it was a really rough start to that game for him which worries me. Watson - he is a gamer. he makes some great plays. I don't see him throwing guys open like you did, at least not as the rule (maybe the exception). I see a lot of "lazy balls" that get picked all day in the NFL. He doesn't have a weak arm, it seems like he just makes some bad decisions/throws where he lobs the ball up in the air to his WR (Mike Williams a lot of the time) and lets him attempt to make a play...and not in a good way where he places it only so his WR can get it. I could see him continuing this in the NFL and throw 20+ picks. I am torn on Watson...I like his leadership, work ethic, personality, decision making (spread offense so it should be good)...but I cannot get over a lot of these balls that just hang in the air and look to be sure INTs....thoughts?
  12. Good link thanks Some youth here to counter the experienced geezers added previous
  13. Gugny is now part of the "let's roll with TT because what else do we have" crowd so you should take him off that list
  14. For the first time ever, it's just the wife and I this year at home... Venison/pork combo hot sausages Sun dried tomato and pesto potato salad Chips and bison dip (general snacking throughout pregame) A dip of some sort that is undecided that my wife is going to make - open to suggestions fellas so feel free to help out Lots of beer, mostly my own home brew
  15. I think he can coach the QB position, hes been around football for 40 years and was a QB himself....seems like another good hire A WR coach doesnt just hang out with the WRs and say "run this route, catch the ball" After Maclin is cut as a cap casualty in KC, having Culley on staff can help us sway him to come finish his NFL career with us... Maclin on Culley being in KC when he signed, "It's a big factor why I came to KC, and I have nothing but love for him....its more than a player-coach relationship. We're actually friends and its deeper than that".
  16. I think BB and TB are intertwined and cannot be separated for purposes of ranking coaches/QBs I think one without the other never ever comes close to the success they have achieved together Take TB away from BB and BB is an average football coach, take BB away from TB and TB is an average QB...together, and with the winning and confidence that has happened which has grown spread to all players on the team, they have become the best QB and best coach in NFL history What they have done together is incredible, and as a Bills fan, heart breaking
  17. Yes unfortunately this is correct...dont care about overall super bowl record...count the rings man Peyton is a close 2nd
  18. Isn't Lal still under contract with the bills?
  19. Ive been a season ticket holder for a longggggg time....and I've maybe had an issue at the bathroom once. Dont go in between quarters, dont go at halftime....duh?
  20. Exactly. We got a well respected and knowledgeable offensive coordinator, and from many reports, the guy we have been targeting and talking to for the job since McCoy took the same position elsewhere for many other reasons other than "I don't want to coach the bills". Great hire that shows we have talent that actually NFL people want to work with. Loving it.
  21. THANKS EBALL! Love the changes you have instituted
  22. Absolutely. I've said for over a week now, as did many other posters here, all the reported interviews were either A) not actually happening and it was bad info to our sleuthy local reporters or B) they were interviewing for QB coach job Like that farce that was Greg Olsen, he was never getting consideration for the OC job and thats why he took the QB job out west...he didn't "bail on the bills" as Sal or Vic reported, he just chose to be on the west coast in same position. Don't listen to the media, they never know anything - aside from occasional Wawrow nuggets
  23. All great points regarding 4) so we would still be spending resources (draft pick) on a RT with this scenario? I kind of thought the point of this scenario, aside from getting the best 5 linemen on the field, was to NOT spend resources on RT so we could address the rest of our many needs
  24. same thing brother...most on here just spew what they hear on WGR
