North Dakota State is a big reason.

I would not rule him out because of a 4.55. Plenty of great receivers run in the 4.5s. It is easy to be sucked in to the speed trap at combine time, but even the 4.3 guys are rarely going to be racing a CB like in a track meet. Ideally, you get hands, route running, quickness and speed. Lots of very fast WRs never amount to anything in the NFL. Ross from Cincy had fastest combine 40 in history until yesterday and he has been nondescript at best. Marquise Goodwin was super fast and explosive, too.

Get Christian McCaffery to be our #1... slot WR...???
OldTimer1960 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
As I imagine many have already said, he costs too much, has a lot of wear and tear and won't fit under the cap. -
Tutu did not catch a pass as a rookie in 8 games before missing remaining games due to injury, maybe teams will not be as aggressive on Robinson’s draft slot with that in mind.
-
Do you think it has changed drastically? If yes, why? I am not trying to be argumentative. I love and follow the draft very closely - have since the mid-80s. If things have changed, I need to reset my expectations.
-
That isn’t realistic based on draft history. https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015/2/20/8072877/what-the-statistics-tell-us-about-the-draft-by-round

Is one of the Williams’ supposed to be Wilson from Ohio State? I would add Treylon Burks to your list. Still, unless addressed in free agency, if there is a CB rated close in that range I think they would go that way, if he fits what they are looking for.
-
That’s what I thought looking at him on the field and in an interview.
-
Very interested to see real height and weight for the prospects. In particular, is Wan’dale Robinson really 5’11” and 180+ or considerably smaller? Is Logan Hall really only 260lbs? He looks good in the limited views I have on him, but what do you do with a 260lb DT?
-
Generally agree and I am NOT one who fully buys in to “never take position X in round one” guy, but there have been lots of OGs that I have thought are worth a first - and Green might fit that but most have turned out “OK”
-
Can you share a link to a pay site? Depending on how much it costs, I might be interested

Interesting. Where are you finding game tapes? I find mostly highlights on YouTube with a few games in there as well

In hindsight, what’s your worst “hot take” on TSW ever?
OldTimer1960 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh my, I have 2 horrible ones that come to mind: 1. Didn’t want Patrick Mahommes or Desean Watson in the draft 2. Was very meh on the Josh Allen pick. To this day, I think that Chris Kelsey was good, not great, and his critics were too harsh. -
I agree with your premise. I don’t fully agree that front 7 is generally undersized. Oliver is light for his position as is Milano (but not by much). Phillips and Star are not really undersized, nor is Edmonds. I think that in those games that D got splattered by run it was refusal to commit more defenders to the run. Likewise, pedestrian sack numbers are partially due to lack of blitzing LBs and stunting and oTher “games” by DL. For a team that often rushes only 4 vs 5 OL plus a RB, is it any wonder they don’t get more sacks?

In the NFL his size advantage will still exist, but it will be much smaller than in college.

1. You've been a fan since: late 1960s. My first players that I have long-term memory of: O.J. Simpson, Dennis Shaw, Marlin Briscoe, Bobby Chandler, Joe D., Reggie McKenzie, Leonard Smith, Robert James…. 2. Your first Bills memory: OJ destroying defenses and Dennis Shaw winning Offensive Rookie of the Year 3. One of your favorite Bills memories: Simpson’s runs, Jerry Butler, Bruce Smith, Fred Smerlas, Phil Hanson, Cornelius Bennett, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, … 4. Your favorite player of all time and your favorite player currently... Probably Bruce Smith, current: Allen, Diggs, Singletary 5. Some of you guys have some awesome forum names. What does your forum name say about you?

150 draft prospects threaten to boycott Combine
OldTimer1960 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
True, but are there even 80 guys invited to the Senior Bowl and that includes many big-school guys. I’m not arguing that the NFL isn’t profiting off the Combine in the past 15 years or so, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t value to the NFL and the prospects beyond the marketing. With the $ that even rookies make, is it really unreasonable for teams to want to see their prospective employees on a fairly level playing field. -

The game tape is very important, of course, but how do you judge a player who played against middling competition and dominated? He LOOKS fast against the opponents he played, but is he really NFL fast? Can’t always tell from game tape. Likewise in terms of strength and quickness. It is also valuable just to see how a guy reacts in an unfamiliar environment where he doesn’t have as many people as usual helping/coaching him. It doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. What is so egregious? -

The Combine affords teams the ability to get comparable performance test results for all of the participants. At the Combine, everyone runs, jumps, lifts under the exact same conditions. To compare pro day performances, you need to worry about different conditions- for example a “faster” or “slower” surface for speed drills. You also don’t have to worry that maybe one school sets up their 40 yard dash line just shot of 40 or worry that QB A is throwing under ideal conditions and QB B is in windy, wet conditions. Easy to imagine other differences fro pro day site to pro day site. Now, does that outweigh whatever grievances players have with the Combine? I guess that is an individual decision. I don’t see the big deal or what players/agents might be up in arms about in general about the Combine. I can at least understand why players and agents are mad at the COVID restrictions because it limits what support personnel (trainers, nutritionists, interview coaches, etc can be with the players. Still, that doesn’t seem like a big sacrifice in my view. As always, the highly rated players can get away with not attending or participating, because teams will grumble but attend their pro days. The lesser coveted guys looking to improve their stock will probably benefit by being at the Combine and participating. -
I agree that in the Bills’ current state, I’d rather have fewer picks, but more in the 2nd-4th, if possible. Trade ups of a few spots to secure a player that is standing out on the Bills’ board can be a good strategy. Still, Bills’ aren’t exactly flush with “draft capital” picking late in every round, so I think any big trade ups are unlikely unless Bills include a vet in the deal - even then I don’t think that any player the Bills would consider parting with would fetch, at best, a 3rd.
-
I know that he is exceptionally quick. Will he hold up in the NFL at 170lbs? I guess that is about Beasley/McKenzie size.
-
Wan’dale Robinson is tiny at 5’8” 170 - I would have a difficult time spending even the Bills’ late 2nd rounder on someone that size. 3rd round, maybe. I’m not saying that someone won’t grab him in the 2nd, just that I’d be wary that early.

How do you compare Olave and Dotson? Admittedly, I’ve only seen highlights and everyone looks good on highlights, but Dotson has great hands and is pretty shifty. He might have to play slot only at his size.
