I am hoping for Ryan Fitzpatrick. I think he would be a great fit as backup.

Chandler Jones, Jordan Davis, DK Metcalfe, maybe Gronk
OldTimer1960 replied to Ghs24mike's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think they would have to move up if they want Davis - and I hope they go another direction anyway. He is a freak athlete at that size, but too many concerns for my taste including 1. He lost a bunch of weight for the combine. Why wasn’t he in better shape last season? Is there a motivation issue? 2. He won’t be able to bully NFL OGs as easily as he did college guards - he did play against the best college competition, but that still isn’t the grown men of the NFL. 3. Why didn’t he play a higher percentage of snaps at Georgia? Now, he may be maturing now and might stay in better shape and he certainly has size and talent, but I am not sure enough of those things (and don’t have the ability to interview him and his coaches, trainers, teammates, etc…). -
No criminal charges for Deshaun Watson; civil deposition 3/15
OldTimer1960 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed -
It was a good, not great defense last year that now has glaring holes at CB and DT. Even if Phillips stays, they need reinforcements at DT and CB is a barren wasteland at the moment that requires a FA and a high draft pick to ensure that they are covered if White isn’t ready at the beginning of the season.

That is not the same thing as saying he didn’t do anything bad. All it means is that they did not have enough evidence to indict him as it is a “he says she says” case. That doesn’t mean that he did or did not do anything wrong. -
No thanks on McCaffrey. He already has a lot of wear and tear and has started having injuries. High-mileage, undersized RBs are not a good investment, in my opinion.

Khalil Mack traded to Chargers for 2nd and 6th round picks
OldTimer1960 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall
No team with a good QB not on a rookie contract could afford Mack. That eliminates a lot of teams from being interested and kept trade compensation low. -
I wouldn’t say that adding Engram would make this team more physical. Can add some receiving chops in 2 TE sets, but I don’t think he would add much in run blocking.

Well, because there is a hard cap in the NFL and teams paying $40+M per year for their QB have to be frugal in other areas. This talk-show/internet idea of “all-in in the window” is bunk. There IS value in being a consistently competitive team. I think that DOES maximize your opportunity to win 1 SB. The idea of pushing all chips in for one season sounds enticing, but one key injury or bad break can derail that championship chase and then next season you fall off paying the price for being “all in”. i would MUCH rather they field a consistently good team for several years under Allen than blow that signing expensive FAs for one shot and then blow up the team due to cap hits following years.

In my opinion, Shaq Lawson was a good solid player here. He was not a star and they let him leave as Phins overpaid for him. Good run defender with decent pass rush skills. Can be be a plus as part of DE rotation.

Got it and make sense. You aren’t saying that they didn’t scout more than 100, but that they really are selective with who they put on the board. They have had some pretty decent luck identifying late round and UDFA players who contribute. What they are doing seems to be working.
-
Do you mean that they think there are only 100 or so draft-worthy prospects or do they exclude many early prospects because they are going to be gone early, aren’t scheme fits, don’t play priority position for current draft,…? I can’t imagine them basically only having a top 100 board and flying blind after 3rd round.
-
I think you are onto something here. I wondered the same thing…
-
Agree, I don’t see the next Ted Washington when I look at him. Huge and pretty incredible athlete for that size. Not much of a pass rusher, but at 6’6” maybe could disrupt pass lanes. I don’t think he would be the best choice at 25

Which WR do you think the Bills will draft?
OldTimer1960 replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the difference between low 4.4s and mid4.3s is inconsequential except in very rare instances during actual game play. -

OldTimer1960 replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
Didn’t Dotson run mid 4.4s? That is PLENTY fast and he has outstanding hands as well. Still, a little on the small side. He looks like a potentially great slot - now do you draft a slot in round 1 - even late round 1? -
There are coaches who are acknowledged as great QB developers, but that doesn’t mean they can take a modest QB talent and turn him into a great QB.
-
CB is a premium position for a reason. Bills have been playing 4-2-5, in part, because they have had average play at CB from Wallace. Better coverage helps the pass rush (by providing more time to get to the the QB), just as better pass rush helps coverage.
-
Unless they sign a CB in free agency, I don’t see how they get beyond 2nd before taking one. Tre White coming off injury, Taron Johnson in slot and who? Do you really want Dane Jackson as presumptive starter with practice squad guys behind him?

Raiders getting calls from multiple teams for Derek Carr
OldTimer1960 replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why would Raiders trade him? -
Agree.

Not many. Some people think that it doesn’t matter because there are a few that size.

What little I’ve seen of Moore leaves me wondering about how they raved about him at the Combine. The quickness that they talk about didn’t jump out to my untrained eyes in the little that I have seen. Is he so smooth that he doesn’t look as quick as he really is?
