I don’t think it is the fact that Taylor is a good runner that Dennison doesn’t like. The problem is that Taylor will not throw passes that good NFL QBs need to throw. He won’t throw to guys that are not WIDE open, does not throw anticipation routes and generally just holds the ball too long and that disrupts plays.

Matt Milano graded out among top rookie LB's

No way! Those are my favorite cookies! -
I vote for Ryan Finley and Mason Rudolph. i plan to watch all of these players as much as I can on draftbreakdown.com. It will be interesting to see how we each see these guys. I know several others will watch these guys too.

Fitz' problem is that his arm strength is not really NFL caliber. If he had better arm strength, he would be a pretty good NFL QB, IMHO.

The BIG Bills Questions for the next week....
OldTimer1960 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you. Smith and Cousins are a league above the guys that have been here. Both are good, but not elite NFL starters. if they could get Smith for the next year or two AND draft a good QB prospect this year, that would be great. I'm not sure that Tyrod would be much of a mentor to a young QB. He does not read defenses well, doesn't recognize plays as they develop so he can't throw with anticipation. He could be a good role model in terms of professionalism and attitude. -
Perfect rb to complement mccoy next couple yrs

We just disagree. Sure, you can get lucky and find a decent RB late in the draft, but your odds are much better earlier in the draft. I am not saying to take a RB in round 1, but I don’t think round 2 is too high if they think they can get a guy that will eventually replace McCoy. -
Should we replace Tolbert with Frank Gore?
OldTimer1960 replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gore would be a nice get, but he would be too expensive. They can’t spend THAT much money at RB for McCoy AND Gore. -

Why not? This folk-lore that good RBs can be gotten at any point in the draft or as UFAs is bunk - especially for a team that is guaranteed to be a run-heavy offense again next year, even if they draft a QB. -
Upcoming fee agent DTs

What about trying to get Star’s “little” brother in maybe the 2nd round of the draft? The Dareus trade was not about his price tag. He is not a worker, never in the kind of shape he should be and is unreliable in his availablility due to suspensions. I think the new regime hoped that he would come around, but he punched his ticket out of town when he missed team bus to a preseason game and was sent home. i don’t think his trade means that the Bills would not spend substantial money on a DT. -
What QB do you want to draft.
OldTimer1960 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that is too much to give up for any player, QB or not. Darnold is a good prospect, but not so good to give away all of that. If you do that deal, you had better be 100% sure that Darnold will be a top 5 QB in the league. -

They don't have the ammo to get a high enough pick to nab Darnold. 2 bottom 1/3 first round picks won't get them early enough in the draft. -
Any QB not taken in round one is not considered a good prospect by NFL teams. That does not mean that occasionally a QB drafted after round 1 doesn't turn out to be good. It also doesn't mean that any QB taken in round 1 will be good. Outside of round 1, the odds of finding decent starters at any position is a lot higher than finding a decent QB. I am not saying that the Bills should reach for a compromise QB prospect in round 1, but rather spending a valuable 2nd on a QB who will have significant weaknesses in his game as s a waste

With the way that the season has played out for Bills, Chiefs and Rams, the "draft capital" that the Bills have won't be enough to move up high enough to get a good QB prospect. I expect that they will go after a QB in FA and then maybe throw a 2nd round pick at a QB. I think much of the hype has died on this QB class with only Rosen, Darnold and maybe Mayfield having played well enough to be considered very good prospects. There are some pretty big questions whether Rudolph's and Jackson's games will translate to the NFL and Josh Allen really had a poor season statistically. Now, I am not saying that these 3 are terrible prospects, but this QB class certainly doesn't look as deep as it did before the NCAA season started. -
the TT bashing is just so tiresome

I think that Taylor is adequate to win with if you have a defense like the Jaguars or Broncos. I am not a Tayor basher, but he is in the bottom 25% of the league starting QBs, in my opinion. I agree reed that they could have schemed to his strengths better this year, but I don't think that would have improved his standing against his peers by a lot. I think the reason that they didn't scheme around him is twofold: 1. They did not really believe that he is their long-term answer and they did want to install their vision of the long-term offense this year so they aren't starting from scratch again next season. 2. Taylor is a good enough athlete and tries hard enough to earn at least 1 year to see if he can play in the version of offense that they want to run, so they gave him that shot. I like Taylor and his effort, but his ability in the passing game is too much of a liability to allow them to be serious contenders. Committing to scheme to Taylor's strengths would improve the offense's production some, but would always limit their options. By no means am I saying that Taylor is the only problem on this offense, but I do believe that they need to try to get better at the QB position if they want to compete. -
Too many for them all to be good, yet not enough for Bills to find a good prospect.
-
I think that is pretty short-sighted and I don't expect that any of the draft eligible QBs will be completely ready to play right away. The NFL is a big step up in competition and each player is likely going into a scheme he never played before.

He obviously hasn't watched Taylor play much.

A few thoughts about the Patriots game
OldTimer1960 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have respect for Taylor's effort, but he just isn't very good. You can't be a serious playoff contender when you know it is game over as soon as you fall behind by 7 points. i know that there are other problems on offense besides Taylor, but he is the QB and in two games against the Pats, the offense scored 12 total points (heck, the defense scored 7). I'll grant that the O should have had a TD on the Benjamin play before half, but that would take the offense's total to 16 against the Pats in 2 games - that is 8 points per game and that anemic output is certainly not all on Dennison. He refuses to throw to anyone that isn't WIDE open. If you watch other games, other QBs certainly fit the ball into receivers that are more covered than anyone that Taylor will even try to throw to. I'd take Taylor as a backup, but he is not a quality NFL starting QB. it sounded like Tony Romo was in pain watching Taylor. I have never heard another game where the color announcer pointed out so many times plays that went unmade because the QB would not throw it or throw it on time. -
Bills Barnwell Projects the 2018 Veteran QB Market
OldTimer1960 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand your point, but the HOF bar is awfully high. I would be happy with a young player who at least has a chance to become a top half of the league starting QB. i would be less inspired by a veteran like Alex Smith, unless they also draft a QB early. -
I wasn’t trying to attack your post. I think that Mathews hasn’t been healthy all season. He has been a quality receiver in the NFL before arriving here. In his 3 years in Philly, he had 67, 85 and 73 receptions- that is pretty good, even if “just” a possession receiver. Benjamin, as well, has been injured much of his time here, but he has shown some skills amongst the injury time. I am hoping that the Bills keep Benjamin long-term. If Zay Jones continues to improve after his rough start, I think I could live with Benjamin and Jones with someone added with speed. i think that problems getting separation have been exacerbated by the injuries the Mathews and Benjamin have been playing with.

Are you talking about Tyler Keane of Coastal Carolina? His own coach has tried all season to move him out of the lineup. He is only 5'10" 195 according to this link: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/sports/college/sun-belt/coastal-carolina-university/article181163981.html if that is who you are talking about, he will be around late in the draft.
-
R I just don't see that. Kelvin Benjamin has been a very productive WR in this league. Jordan Mathews has as well. Zay Jones looks to be coming on as well. I do do concede that they could use a speedster, but they don't need to use a 1st or 2nd round pick on one. Watkins, Woods and Goodwin have all been more productive elsewhere this year than they were here. The lack of a QB has to be addressed before WR. i am pretty confident that a good QB would make Benjamin and Jones look much better (Mathews as well, but I expect him to leave in FA)
-
I don't think 1 1st this year and one next is going to be enough to pull off that move. KC now looks like they will win the AFC West, so that pick is going to be late. The Bills' own pick is likely going to be around 20th - especially if they beat Miami today. They appear to have played themselves out of a shot at a good QB prospect.

I'm afraid that you are right. It is going to take a very high price, if it is even possible to find a willing trade partner. I think FA may be their best option to find a serviceable QB.
