[Please Change Title]Doug Whaley
Rob's House replied to Wagon Circler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand the Whaley ball washing. If we finish 10-6 or better I might get it, but usually you wait until someone actually accomplished something before you crown their ass. As far as I can tell he's turned a lot of high draft picks and big acquisitions courtesy of a Pegula endorsed spending spree into a .500 team. If he's going to get credit for Mario, Dareus, Woods, Kiko (McCoy) and Gilmore then he's gotta eat it on EJ. -
I don't need your help anymore

We can't make the play-offs playing defense like this
Rob's House replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't understand why we can't muster a pass rush. Mario always knocks down double digit sacks, Jerry Hughes has 20 in 2 years, Kyle Williams had 16 over the last 2 years, and Dareus averages over 7 per season over his first 4 years. Through 6 games they've combined for 5. I know it's not all about sacks, but at this rate they won't even combine for Mario's single season best. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but after massive success in two different systems I have to think the problem is in the coaching. -
Roman just needs to figure out a way to get EJ out in space.

Personally, as one who's probably thought of as a "hater," I thought he played okay. Not great, but okay. His accuracy left something to be desired, and some of his decisions were suspect (2 more passes could have been picked, and taking an easy completion that had no chance at a 1st late in the game down big was not inspiring). But he did string together some scoring drives, and I've always liked his ability to pick up 1sts with the QB sneak. It's worth noting that this was his first start in over a year and it was against a formidable defense. Overall, my opinion of him hasn't really changed that much - I still see him as a low ceiling, high floor prospect whose best case scenario might be to one day flirt with top 20 QB status, but no more, and even that looks to be a stretch. But I agree with the poster who said he could be a quality long-term backup like Charlie Batch.

Glad to hear he's doing better. Just keep truckin on, Bill.

Bucky: Trading Cassel doesn’t look good right now

God forbid anyone criticize Lord Whaley. The man is infallible. -
I agree with the people that day it's good to get a win with a new QB and our skill guys out, but there's no way to put a happy face on going 3 qtrs without crossing mid-field. Hopefully it was just an off day, but that kind of performance is inexcusable. That's not just a slow start, and it's not just a matter of missing our top skill guys. That was the worst offense in the league for 3 qtrs. You ought to be able to at least pick up a few first downs regardless of who you've got in. Whether it's the scheme, the QB, the coaching, or whatever, we need to get a lot better as a unit to be competitive. I'm still happy with TT, and his 4th quarter heroics are encouraging, but I can't pretend the offense was fine because Taylor pulled it out at the end.

Despite growing pains and question marks on offense, when you look at the quality of the defense and the strength of schedule I think it's hard to say we're not contenders for a playoff spot. Granted, we don't look like SB contenders right NOW, but if we make the playoffs this offense will have played a full season together by then. And one thing that's great to have with an elite defense is a QB who shows up big in the 4th quarter, and so far TT looks to be that guy.

I know this will be a tough game against a tough opponent, but I hope the players and coaches aren't giving the Bengals as much respect as we are. I've seen that they're a good team that can win the games they're supposed to, but I'm not ready to crown their ass yet. Let's see how they respond to a smothering defense. Sometimes the pretty boy jock gets his ass kicked by the bad kid.

Rookie OL tend to have a learning curve similar to that of QBs. Sure, the occasional guy is good right out the gate, but usually they take a year or two to really get acclimated.

Roku (or other streamer) vs Wifi Blu-ray player
Rob's House replied to The Jokeman's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Roku's great. I've got one that looks like a flash drive that plugs into an HDMI port on the TV. You still have to run an electrical cord to it but it's a skinny one. It works great (much faster than my 5 yr old blu-ray player), it takes up virtually no space, it has tons of audio and video apps, and has a great platform. I dig it. -
Claiming this as an outstanding QB performance is a bit of a stretch. The spectacular ending is certainly praiseworthy, but today's performance left me more concerned than confident about the future. All the blaming of the OL, running game, and WRs sounds eerily similar to the arguments made by RG3 apologists. A QB can't do it all, but he can do things to make those units look better. Hopefully today is learning experience that he'll grow from, but if the defense doesn't shut down TN we're having a very different conversation right now.

That's a shame but their loss is our gain. They're on our schedule and they are/were potential competition for a WC.

Fred Jackson: My Toughest Road Trip

If Whaley did in fact lie to him, why shouldn't he say it? It's one thing to bad mouth the organization, quite another to give a factual account of what happened. -
Watkins Injury Update - post em here

I support this. I'd rather have him out for 2 games and come back healthy than getting a hobbled version of him now and increase the chance of compromising his performance for the rest of the season. -
Shady Listed as Proable for Sunday vs. Cincinnati
Rob's House replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Going into his 3rd season he'll be 29 with ~ 2000 carries (assuming he plays the majority of games this year and next). I'm curious how many RBs have been successful, much less dominant, at that age with that kind of mileage. Marshall Faulk and Ladanian Tomlinson were both productive at that point in their careers, but neither was special at that point, and those are arguably the two greatest backs of the last 15 years. If we get the level of production from McCoy that those guys did in their age 27, 28, and 29 seasons that would be great. But if I had to bet on it I'd say he's got about a 16 month shelf life. It's hard for a runner like him to thrive without that elite quickness, and that's usually one of the first things to go. -

I wouldn't be surprised to see him perform well in the second half of this season and maybe even next, but I'll be shocked if he's a top 32 RB in 2017.
