  1. cause most nfl scoring is off chunk plays not 18 play drives dominated by running in all advantageous downs and distances
  2. you put the worst qb in football behind a good line and you’ll still be bad and he will make everyone else look much worse
  3. heaven forbid they pick the likely highest viewed and not the highest upside
  4. It’s a lot of context and admittedly we have little access to that info. if on 3rd we call a bomb to beasley its a little aggressive. But if the player is scared to make a mistake despite a pick being a punt and he throws an uncatchable ball due to that aversion to risk - it’s bad culture. Fumbles or lack of awareness are exhausting to watch. One thing that drove me nuts with Tyrod discussions here was people saying he didn’t make mistakes but often times not throwing the tough ball is a much bigger mistake than throwing it and ending up a pick. Throwing a contested ball deep on 3rd that gets picked is low risk high reward.... even if it flops.
  5. the real trick is to not pull back immediately after a few mistakes.
  6. Seems this is usually the kiss of death. If things are already going poorly enough to warrant the statement- by end of year it’ll be bubbling over.
  7. but it’s certainly skewed by games where a teams behind and trying to dig out of a hole, no?
  8. I suppose shoot up is a bit overstated in my wording... but even an extra win or two is big. and agree a little health, good bounce or lucky call go a long way in sorting out the crowded middle of the pack. but yea, it’s definitely blending to compare total wins with average differential. Doing the average differential with the average outcome (win percentage) should be a better metric. You wouldn’t do a graph of average yards per game to total touchdowns, knowing there are different game counts, for instance. Not a big deal but it’s not the right build out
  9. I think the more interesting framing is coins to beane vs McD While the happy family is nice- does a little more discord help push guys past their comfort zone and into better places? For instance does McD go harder to win now if he doesn’t feel incredibly safe with the GM? Does beane push more talent on the roster even if not perfect culture fits if it’s not the guy that got him the gig? It’s a fine line before dysfunction but something I’ve pondered a bit the last year or two.
  10. there’s a lot of sheer talent. you are counting on a lot of inconsistent pieces becoming consistently their best versions at the same time though.
  11. Is there a reason you are blending a per game with an overall net? Wouldn’t win percentage Jake more sense than total wins? that’s not a small amount though. Go back through many of our 6-10 type seasons and toss a touchdown on it score every other week and that record would shoot up often times.
  12. I’d be shocked if he’s productive enough to be an upgrade after this long if he is I’d have no problem.
  13. maybe a Gilmore? I love tre but maybe you keep him and Darby and get a playmaker elsewhere? and not a great player but I’d argue the move from MD to Star was not worth the high cost on the cap last year.... would’ve been nice to bring in some line or receiver help.
  14. but when you cut, trade or let all your young talent immediately walk... you have to sign or trade for some. Also elite playmakers are definitely a major missing ingredient.
  15. if the expectation is perfection you can fault anyone. but if you think the offense has any high ground walking into film review this week, you are highly mistaken. The defense isn’t perfect but it’s miles ahead.
  16. Our 6th lineman is a better blocker and equal receiving threat. Lee Smith has never made sense to me. I’ve been posting this commentary for years. And somehow he’s back. And on a healthy contract.
  17. We want it to go faster but it can’t? that’s a major statement with no backing
  18. It’ll be a tough game. Any team has a shot about any... they are a bad matchup for us and on the road.
  19. which goes kind of hand in hand with a lack of identity, in a way. we’ve got a bunch of good players and some young guys that might step into that but what’s the teams identity? It’s not on the offensive side yet for sure. On defense we’ve invested heavily in the center of the D but with star, Oliver and Edmunds we aren’t there (at least yet). The team just doesn’t have a spot to really say “this is who we are” and I think that’s why we are seeing “but we are 6-2” and not “but we bring the hurt to our opponent” or “but you see anyone slowing down -insert name here-“
  20. we don’t have big holes and we tend not to make big mistakes. Against a soft schedule we should fare pretty well. on the bright side - if Allen can continue to slowly grow it’s a matter of adding a few (admittedly sometimes tough to fill) pieces
  21. honestly, we have some good pieces but in the trifecta of pass thrower, pass catcher and pass rusher we are currently behind in all three. in another soft metric- we are lacking guys that are overwhelming to game plan for.
  22. Both offense and defense are lacking game changing plays.
  23. Almost exactly my point, no?
  24. who was the last great Carolina receiver? Steve Smith? i think there’s a chance that this is who we are With this regime and either Allen will put the offense on his back or he won’t. But we will see as there have been hints of interest in the big names along the way.
