NFC Playoff Games: Vikes at Saints 1:05 pm
NoSaint replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
they announced game over on the field VERY fast. There definitely wasn’t time to cue it back up. that said, by the standard all season they wouldn’t overturn it for that little even if they could have easily called it without controversy in the first place -
throwing a flag on a scoring or turnover would be too but if that was a field ruling with no intervention from nyc you are right. Edit: actually it’d be a forward pass and penalty not a fumble on a challenge also not reviewable
-
throwing the flag is a penalty there

as a scoring play AND turnover McD can’t if arguing the letter of the rules you gotta know them

In it’s simplest terms the defense finished above average but not perfect. The offense was below average. It’s not any kind of oddball slicing of stats or anything. It’s who we have been. It’s hard to expect the defense to always win. what were his passing stats through 5 quarters against one of the worst pass defenses in the league?
-
not sure but I think we’ve too quickly said not enough resources and outside of WR1, it’s absolutely not the story. our TE room is a great example with a FA getting average starter money, smith getting elite te2 money and a 3rd round pick. by definition we’d be above average investment at the position and... well... it’s not a strength.

In the “collapse” they allowed 22 points in 3 quarters which is about average play for this league (24 and change across 4 being average). They also had a HUGE stop to get us the ball and a chance to win at the end of regulation, in a position they shouldn’t have been put in. It’s definitely a step down from pitching a shutout the first half but if the need is to shut out good opponents there’s a problem. they were not perfect but the step back from GREAT, to relatively average, shouldn’t be the focal point of the discussion about what went wrong when our only TD In 5 quarters came on a busted coverage on a trick play. the defense missed a few steps in the dance but wasn’t bad overall. The long conversion is an ugly play to point but perfection isn’t the expectation. The offense stepped on toes, fell a few times and soiled themselves in the end.

I hope we never see him bail backwards on a blitz on the edge of fg range, lateral a ball randomly, or heave it to a FB in double coverage- and those are just the exceptionally bizarre choices.
-
im not arguing it’s good, but also that it only goes so far to argue they haven’t tried to upgrade it either. It needs more pieces but the investment isn’t neglectful. Which ties back to the question on whether it happens. I think they over invest this year and it spikes a bit but we will see. And that doesn’t speak to whether they can get more talent out of less resources once the roster matures out of rookie deals for so many key spots.
-
but that’s the problem- wins shouldn’t erase them. The first half wasn’t stellar ball, he played decent and got away with a few errors that could’ve been huge.
-
honestly- I hope they don’t dwell on the end of game. He must get it and if he doesn’t you aren’t reaching him.

they held a good offense to 5 points below league average through the end of regulation. im not saying they were GREAT but they had an above average game. our offense, played below average. And has more resources than sometimes given credit. Josh is a huge investment. Morse is big. Beasley and Brown aren’t insignificant spends. Singletary, ford and Dawkins are all high picks. I’d venture Knox, smith and kroft add up as above average investment at the position (Kroft paid average/slightly above starter money smith low starter/elite back up, and the rookie a day 2 pick). They need a WR1 but aren’t totally neglected. Our leader definitely led the way, doc. It’s ok to say the end wasn’t great for anyone but was awful for someone

plenty of us have been getting hammered for saying you need stars to win in this league for the duration of this regime. tre is a star on D and made a huge play. We need that guy that can get after the qb reliably in the biggest moment, the pass catcher, and hopefully Allen. we just burned one of our easiest opportunities to pair those stars with a great supporting cast.

that the alternative is ripping a bandaid that might hurt isn’t as convincing an argument as you seem to think. if someone doesn’t believe in Allen or McD, it doesn’t mean they have to deliver you a slam dunk alternate path to the championship. we will see. Lots of red flags, but also some reasons to be hopeful. A lot of teams can say similar. But you’re going to shred any plan given, because you don’t believe we are walking the wrong path. you aren’t asking for insight, you are asking for someone to volunteer to be a victim to your frustration -
How to Define a Franchise QB in Today's NFL
NoSaint replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
a lot to unpack there (Darnold a franchise qb?!?) but at its core- good teams beat bad teams and split with their peers. We are pretty close to that, if they can keep consistency. and while they weren’t perfect the D held a good Texans offense to below league average points with an extra quarter of play. While they had a signature flub play to point at they still did more than should be expected in this league and did it against a good team. this ones on the offense and contrary to popular opinion plenty of that lands on their first half performance too, not just the melt down. -
you should re-evaluate some priorities in your life. its a shame but to let something you have no control over and that has no direct effect on your life carry that much weight is unhealthy Sven

you may as well ask who do you think has the next young franchise qb if the answers us, definitely. If not, we are in the spin cycle with the rest of them for the foreseeable future.
