Week 13 Around the League Thread
NoSaint replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you’d think odds of PI far surpass an INT return for a TD. Especially if the offense knows the situation. “This is the throw being mad no matter what- don’t let it come back.” that said, I’m pro going for it on 4th it I’m the chargers. Lining up on a play that gives you a 90% chance of being successful in earning a less than 50% odds to win doesn’t do it for me when 3 chain links moves your odds north of 50% and has to be about the same conversion rate as the kick -
Top 4 passing QB - No winning records

I don’t think anyone’s argued he must consistently -
no worries and I appreciate it. counter point- any team generally will have some highs and lows as they push chips in, and then regroup. I wouldn’t argue we do anything totally absurd and crippling... but if we have a window where we have a built in 15% advantage in cap vs the rest of the league, let’s max it even a little more now I’m not saying league minimum contracts with 100m signing bonuses to kick everything down the line and trading the entire next three years drafts... but there’s responsibly aggressive in spending the entire cap (and maybe a touch extra by structure) and toss a pick here and there to turn that 15% advantage into (totally made up here) 20-25%. even if that leaves us at 90% later. Assuming josh is the guy there are going to be 20 years of mild ups and downs - but we can have a HUGE up, with a run of the mill down behind it. It’s hard to get a ring and the way you take some of the luck out of it is over indexing in talent. In a few years the only way to do that is taking risks on guys, or incredible drafting. Today we can do it just by being a team making decisions as if we are really a contender.

My Theory on why Bills have a lack of Primetime Games.
NoSaint replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know a lot here have a chip on their shoulders but I love when I can predict a game time consistently, plan around it, etc... and frankly working Monday going to a game and working Tuesday isn’t particularly fun. id much rather go Sunday afternoon even if the Boise Idaho isn’t getting to see us on mnf -

looking at Monday night football hosts: saints (X2) - super bowl contender and strong ratings Oakland - I guess could be your point, but needed a west coast team and they had lots of storylines too Jets (x2)- hot pick and biggest market giants - biggest market pitt (x2)- huge national base, expected contender San Fran - currently the #1 seed in nfc Green Bay - clearly not your point rams were in the super bowl seattle- don’t seem to fit vikings - plenty going for them eagles - don’t fit the bill redskins- don’t fit the bill Chargers - I guess to leverage exposure for interest in a host stadium could argued but at this point the premise seems real shaky -

add in that our fans have been sloppy for them... I could certainly see there being layers of reasons. i think stadium leverage is low to non-existent. Bobby can say that market size and winning isn’t important but I’d be shocked if he brings much of a list of small market bad teams getting these games and when they are I’d bet there’s a compelling storyline or expectation of quality that went unmet. ESPN/NBC arent picking bad, boring, teams with few fans and they aren’t doing the nfls dirty work. I think occams shaver says we haven’t asked for the attention, and the tv execs haven’t had a reason to force it on us. -
I think where we diverge is that you wanted to keep a window open longer. This will be wildly over simplified but what I’m arguing is that there are 2 windows and spending in the first only minimally effects whether the second opens or it’s overall results. if Josh is THE guy, our second window instantly becomes 15 years, with some light cycling through reloading and how well we draft. but you almost never get the $30m in annual cap savings vs his vet deal again. That window is unique and short and you have to take advantage of it faster than most here realize, in my opinion. When we get to that crossroads on josh, I think we’d all much rather have had a parade and put up a trophy. The rams and eagles and bears and chiefs aren’t going to flop because they pushed chips on the table- it’s going to be whether their qbs end up being more Russell Wilson or Colin Kaepernick when that crossroad comes (to use a recent obvious rivalry that diverged) how you build a roster around a rookie deal or a vet deal can, and should, be substantially different

UB RB Jaret Patterson 6 TD day
NoSaint replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if he wasn’t he’d at least have another year of college education for whatever is next. it’s a tough spot but unless this was by far his best shot at making a roster, kid was likely well served by staying put. It happens though -
If Foster Starts Rolling This Team Is Beyond Dangerous

If he gets hot like he did end of last year it’s a big deal for our potential run. Like huuuuge. likewise if Shaq and Oliver get hot. the two major spots you’d want to see reinforcements are pass catcher and pass rusher. If our inconsistent guys all hit an upswing together our possibilities are near limitless. -

maybe your definition of a good team and his are different. Maybe he’s meaning a contender and good-ish might be darn near the same thing you are arguing. -
yup. We are in a 2-3 year window here, followed by a re-tool where we find out if Josh can carry a team. roughly this year and next should be our easiest shot at winning a super bowl because we can so wildly over index on talent. to John asking if he’s GM of the year... I suppose the question is do you think we have a shot and do you think we maximized those odds? id say an outside shot if josh stays hot and we get some bounces. I do think we could have pushed more chips on the table to maximize those odds though. the folks that confused me most all offseason were those that thought we had no chance but loved the regime.

CBS: maybe we were wrong about the Bills
NoSaint replied to dtgolder's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
and frankly, this team doesn’t look like an 11 win team on paper but the thing in the wild card race is a lot of teams look like 7 to 9 win teams and then 1 stays healthy, lucky with opponents and gets some favorable calls and balls dropped in their hands The bounce of the oddly shaped ball is definitely going our way this year. But in the process they are getting to grow a bit too. I’ve long said this could be like the Ravens team that got hot late and won it. i do wish we put more chips on the table though. some weeks this makes me a hater, some weeks a kool aid drinker -

the media has been so fast to embrace us so many times. They loved the hot start with fitz. Trent got MVP chatter. -
it just was clunky she poorly constructed even in the best interpretation was really my point. Gilmores loooong gone and they just spoke about how good white was a few mins earlier.
