  1. There is a clear double standard in sports based on race. Why do people have such a hard time admitting it. Why does Tiger have to apologize on TV for marital problems. How many white golfers have done this...I'm sure some of them have had marital issues. Kobe was slammed due to his Denver outing..maybe rightly so. Roger Clements lied to the grand jury no problem. Mark McGwire lies by not telling the truth...no problem. There were eyewitnesses in both cases. Barry Bonds gets indicted without the same amount of evidence and faces jail time. They just can't find an eyewitness unlike McGwire and Clements. In Ben's defense until charges are pressed these are mere allegations thet anyone can make like the Duke lacrosse team. People do play on perception and history. Until charges are pressed I won't take it to serious.
  2. Keep in mind that we are trying to win.
  3. I think we are 4 starters short on each side of the line. I like the Mc Clain pick on defense. We need to get 2 LB's out of this draft and 2 linemen. Everyone would have to compete for the starting spot. Poz was annointed started after Fletcher left and has never lived up. I would have McClain, Mitchell and Poz compete for the inside spot. I think McClain and Mitchell win this battle based on instinct and intellegence. We need to have a natural OLB in one of the outside positions and not just converted DE's but I'm curious to see how it pans out. The OLB position should not be treated as a rest stop for failed DE's, we will never be successful that way. The line is trial and error. Stroud, Johnson seem to be well suited for DE but we really don't know this. Who's on the NT. I don't see Williams being very successful here..he's just to small and this is a position of size and strength. A DT must be drafted. The offseason has to bring us 2 OT's, one can come from the draft and the other from free agency. Problem seems to be that we're not interested in being a player in FA for potential starters. The successful starters for OT aren't on the team yet. Please no more threads putting Levitre at starter on one of the OT positions....remember we play to win the game. All that leaves is a qb that can pull the trigger.
  4. I will give the new regime the benefit of the doubt but it beginning to smell like the same old Bills. When I hear things like we are going to use free agency for adding depth that tells me they are satisfied with present starters.
  5. Ralph has never tried to build a team via free agency...to cheap So even if we are targeting mid tier free agents who are they. I know they are trying to provide depth for the all pro's we have in place already...but no matter who you target you should have a plan of who fits the bill. I thought the rumor mill would be stronger. I thought we would hear where they are planning interviews. Or if they were planning trades. Haven't heard a peep.
  6. The draft is the best way to build but you don't discount free agency when you have a large number of needs. There are a couple free agents we should make a run at but we should wait until the big money of week one has been spent. Spending money on FA's isn't bad if you get the right FA's. New England has a reputation of getting top tier talent as well as the mid tier. Colvin, Moss, Dillon were top tier. Agreed we are looking at the old geezer version of free agency this year but we do need to make some additions to the teams that are good. Especially when the Jets and Dolphins seem to be active. These changes may come through trades as well. I just have no clue to what Nix and crew are planning or who they are planning on bringing in.
  7. A liitle older and not as good. Doesn't catch as well and doesn't block.
  8. The Jets and the Dolphins seem active in making their teams better. Who are we targeting??? I realize all of the FA moves aren't done on the first day. Is it beginning to smell like the same old Bills?
  9. Pull the trigger on this one, immediately. We would still want to get a qb in the draft as well. Troy looked better than Flacco when they were competing until he became ill. Not sure how that will translate 2 years later but he is definitely worth a 5th
  10. I have seen quite a few teams tendering players that shouldn't be on the team. If their salaries aren't a burden, why not? Before you start letting people walk, teams will need to see what FA and the draft brings because the FA pool isn't as deep as usual. Before he was hurt I thought Ellison was showing improvement. He was actually leading the team in tackles believe it or not. He is no more than a back up but we need the depth. Lets face it our LB's are an area of weakness. Mitchell, Poz and Ellison are basically back ups in my book and there should be a 2 year plan to replace each one. Mitchell has the best instincts of any LB that we have and he is the most durable. But he is average best. Poz has taken 3 years to show he can reach the level of average but he is soft. Still bad instincts but he is a fan favorite where if he makes one good play and takes off the rest, it was still a good day for Poz Ellison was never supposed to be a long term solution. It seems everyone but Jauron got the memo. Can anyone say our starters were better than DiGiorgio, Scott, or Harris. When the back ups play as good as the starters we need better starters. I am curious to see how Gailey approaches this unit. I say tender as many players as you can because you never know how other teams view your players.
  11. Trent needs to spend this time working on his game...mainly his abilty to assess receivers in single coverage. He would be a great candidate for the WLAF if it was still around. I would expect Trent not to say much. Lets see what happens when you get more QB's in the mix.
  12. I think this is the first real test of the Nix/Gailey era. With all of the front office changes that we have made, I'm not sure if they manifest itself in a positive or negative way. I'm saving judgement until the season starts because no matter what changes are made, wins and loses are what matters. But I think the FA period will be a good indicator of the new chemistry in the front office. Releasing Josh Reed made me raise an eyebrow but that was the only move I would question to this point.
  13. I'm thinking Drew was in his 3rd year when the light went on.
  14. File this one under "beating a dead horse" How many years should the Trent Edwards audition last? Ryan Fitz beat him out of his job last year. The fact he was given the keys to the castle for 3 years tells me he has been given a solid chance. Now we are making excuses for him. If Trent can show that he can assess the open receivers 20 yards down the field and throw to them instead of checking down, I wouldn't mind giving him a shot.
  15. I like Thomas, I also feel that Chester Taylor would be a solid find as well.
  16. I think we have a tendency to over emphasize the combine. The combine does demonstrate a players ability to play the game. The film and tape does. I would much rather see how a player actually played in the games. I think thats more indicative of what to expect. When it comes to the combine I would ask - Will the player that lifts the most reps be the best pro? - Will the player with the best 40 time be the best at his position? - Will the player with the strongest arm be the best quarterback? - Will the player that jumps the highest be the best? I really don't know who won these events in prior years but I would be curious about the hit rate. Cody looked dominant at times in college I think of him being a 3rd rounder. Many of your best NT's my not be the most cut guys out there but that doesn't they can't play. Look at his game tape before you judge. He is a big dude but I don't think he is lazy. I'm more on the Cam Thomas bandwagon. It aggrevates me more when you have these prima donna college QB's that won't even come to the combine. They would rather wait for pro day. If they really are nursing an injury thats one thing but I question if this is truly the case.
  17. I thought he was partly referring to the throwing motion of Tebow. You just can't change it in a session.
  18. Matt Millen wins this one by a mile leading his organization to a historic 0-16 record. Marv kept us mired in mediocrity. Royal, Walker, and Dockery weren't worth the money but our OL did become better than it was (which isn't saying much). Whitner at 8 and trading up for McCargo and Poz was stupid, we lost two picks for those deals. Whitner and Poz symbolize the mediocrity of the Levy era. It will be interesting to see how these guys will fit in the Nix era because I would have them both on the trading block. They have had 3-4 years to prove their mediocrity. Whitner is no better than Wilson or Byrd while Poz was no better than DiGiorgio. The whole philosophy about smaller and quicker showed how outdated Levy was, but the Bills still managed 7-9 records out of the deal.
  19. Todd Collins has no problem picking up the system. He doesn't have the physical attributes that Campbell has and he wasn't a first round pick but he clearly is the better QB. When others are picking up the system faster than Campbell, I consider him slow. Redskins fans are fed up with him...they stopped making excuses for him years ago. JC actually regressed this year. Another excuse is his OL sucked and it did for this year. But he has played under various lines in different years and he has sucked in all of them. I have watched all Bills and Redskins games for years they are my two teams I follow. (Bills will always be the favorite) He may not have the physical tools but I would take Fitz over Campbell any day of the week...and Fitz is a bum.
  20. His first couple years he was given the keys to the castle. He was treated quite well. Once people realized he wasn't that good the treatment became worse. People realize he was the problem, not the solution. He could be in the same system for 3 years it would make a difference. This guy is slow to understand.
  21. I respect your fact finding. Maybe I can provide some insight. The 4th quarter touchdowns were against teams like KC, Detroit, Carolina, Tampa Bay, St Louis. All of these teams were winless when the skins plated them and the skins defense played very good games. He practically single handedly gave KC, Detroit and Carolina there first wins. To his defense he played great against the Saints. When you see open receivers downfield waving there hands and they are wide open he checks down. The checkdown is great for completion percentage. I would be interested to see how many passes are completed to wide receivers...he is good at hitting his TE's but many times thats the only person he can complete a pass to down field. I believe the Redskins defense finished top 10 this year but they could only win 4 games. Keep in mind under Campbell the Redskins went 2 years with out scoring more than 30 points in a game. Most importantly, what is Campbell win loss record because that tells the real story. One of the many excuses is that he has played under various systems so this has staggered his learning. Maybe so but Todd Collins has no problem picking up the systems much quicker. Collins is the better QB but will never start because he was not the first rounder. When Campbell was hurt Collins started the final 4 games of the 2008 season and won every game taking them to the playoffs. I think Campbell is a very likable guy but he is a scrub at best. If he was so good why were the Skins trying to acquire Sanchez last year and why are they trying to trade him this year.
