  1. That wasn't a classic Tyrod game it was about as good as I've seen him play since his fast start to 2015. And his legs are so shot that he avoided a bunch of sacks and ran thru what should have been an easy Ed Oliver sack to make a play and get out of bounds and extend the game with 2 seconds left. He was making good reads, getting the ball out quick and dropping bombs in a bucket. Bonehead decision at the goal line at half time but if anyone thinks Danny Dimes would have played that well they are kidding themselves.
  2. I liked Marshall a lot as a draft prospect and he could develop into a significant role in Buffalo down the line.......but he's not what they are lacking now. He is a potential Gabe Davis replacement with a higher ceiling athletically...........what the Bills need now is a WR2 who can run the whole tree. Side note.........I told y'all folks that Sherfield and Harty were not likely to have much more impact than Crowder and McKenzie(who had both had better careers, respectively). Diggs is great but beyond him there aren't many teams that don't have more gifted receivers than the Bills from WR2-WR5. They might not produce in their situations so the casual fans don't know much about them........but they aren't a bunch of day 3's and UDFA's like the Bills run out there.
  3. Yeah and with 9 seconds left and Von really not back to form yet...........I think you want that length of Epenesa out there to knock the ball down or get Taylor to the turf. Taylor ran right into an Ed Oliver game-ending sack........but short-arm-Ed allowed Tyrod to run thru it and get out of bounds with 2 seconds still on the clock. Giants team played out of their minds across the board but Buffalo just needs to complete a pass to a wide open Knox OR Oliver to wrap up Taylor and the Giants never get to the goal line.
  4. I was pleased with the progress of Williams. I gotta' add tho that was one of the best performances I've seen by Tyrod Taylor since his hot start back at the beginning of 2015. He was really on point and dropping some deep balls into a bucket to beat some decent coverage. Not sure where that came from given his recent seasons.........but the Bills would have been a lot better off facing Daniel Jones.
  5. Match Daboll against Daboll(instead of Dorsey) in that game and the Bills lose. Daboll is less consistently productive than Dorsey..........and Dorsey is doing it with less skill position talent that Daboll had in 2020-2021. When it goes wrong with Daboll it's a sh!t show. Watching Daboll put the worst offense that the NFL had seen since the merger on the field in the first half of the 2018 season and watching his utter stupidity in the Jags loss in 2021(and of course his very bottom of the league results at 3 prior NFL OC jobs) always seems to slip some people's minds.
  6. Yeah barring an acquisition at receiver or some breakout from Dalton Kincaid I don't see a situation where their passing offense is going to look anything like a WCO rhythm passing offense even from under center. But before virtually every team fell in love with WCO at some point and for some period of time over the last 30 years there were plenty of dynamic offense's that ran play action with 5 and 7 step (deeper) drops and threw the ball downfield more in rhythm.........and that's what suits Allen best with THIS personnel, IMO. A lot of what teams are using to combat the Bills passing game is defense that was adapted to slow down the WCO(as well as the cover 8 to address spreads) neutralizes the Bills passing game as well..........but is extremely vulnerable to running the ball from under center.
  7. Right and Bernard and Milano were drafted long after round 1. You aren't going to find a HOF'er like Brian Urlacher in round 5............but Matt Milano, a guy who strings together a very good career with a couple peak All Pro seasons? Terrel Bernard who might give you some very good seasons if his undersized frame allows? That can be done. It's incumbent upon a team that's lead by a HC whose specialty is the secondary to find guys at those positions who can outperform their draft status in his system so that premium picks can be used elsewhere. So two CB's in round 1 in the first 6 seasons was a head scratcher to me. But picking the more physically gifted one......not so much. Adding a guy in McDuffie, whose ceiling was a poor-man's Tre White's ceiling, wasn't really going to substantively address the problem of covering guys like Hill and Waddle, IMO.
  8. True......they aren't going to run a WCO rhythm passing game with bad hands Gabe running slants......but they don't have the right personnel at receiver to run 11 or spread out of shotgun either.........especially when it makes Allen himself less efficient throwing the ball. But when they play 12 or put a 6th OL in and force the defense to contract it creates space for Diggs and Davis that flooding the field with receivers who can't get open(and rendering the RB useless) in shotgun does not.
  9. Yep. Daboll is the smartest guy in the room until he is unequivocally the dumbest guy in said room. Dorsey is frustrating us all but he has a harder job now than Daboll did when he was here...........the WR corps is significantly less talented/reliable and the QB seems like maybe he now has so much more clout than the OC that he's able to choose to play in shotgun even when it's pretty obvious that he is far better under center............but Daboll still managed to steal the show with 2 first and goals at the 1 yard line that came away with zero points.
  10. This sh!t has been explained ad nauseam and you act like it's never been explored here on TSW. It's as clear as day.......... @HappyDays explained it well. He only runs a few routes well and he needs lesser coverage players across from him to be a more consistent version of himself. If he's getting 6 targets a game with a CB1 or CB2 across from him......with his limitations........his mistakes are going to pile up and be costly.
  11. To these points..........I find it hard to believe that Dorsey, who won a National Championship in college playing under center, is the one totally behind all this shotgun bull####. I think Allen must not be comfortable turning his back to the defense and is driving this remnant of Brian Douchebolls failures. But under center is where he belongs. He's not going to be Patrick Mahomes out there distributing dimes off-platform to 9 different receivers. He needs the rhythm, timing and footwork that playing under center provides to elevate his game. It's not a knock on him.......Tom Brady made a living doing it and he's the GOAT. Getting under center largely negates the impact of the exotic fronts and that's why they are plowing thru them on the ground and receivers are coming open when they use it.
  12. Ehh..........I'm just not a believer in using first round picks on players without the measurables. The same logic for selecting McDuffie is also how, as an organization, you justify drafting Mac Jones in round 1. If I am using a first round pick on a CB for McD's CB-friendly system I want them to also be able to match up with anyone physically man-to-man as well..........ceiling should be the roof for that guy. The issue was going CB there at all, IMO. It was an overreaction for need to the White injury. Drafting for immediate need rarely works out. Almost all HC'ing hires bring with them the promise that they can really coach up at least one position group...........for McD it's the defensive backs.........so using first round picks on those positions is counterintuitive, IMO.
  13. Is this a topic because of the emotional support alligator that got turned away at the Phillies game?
  14. 1) There are more teams with a more talented WR2 options than Gabe Davis than there aren't. Guys who would be more consistent and efficient in the Bills system than Gabe. There are teams with more talented 3rd options than Gabe as the Bills 2nd option. That's the reality. There has been a significant influx of receiving talent since 2017-2018. If you are just looking at the counting stats like yards and TD's you are excluding the fact that Josh Allen is his QB and he gets fed. But take a guy like Jahan Dotson for instance........he's got like 100 yards receiving this season on a bad Washington team as the 3rd option.........but he is a far better player than Gabe. This is where people get in the weeds about Davis.........his counting numbers are grossly inflated because there aren't better options in Buffalo. What's telling are his efficiency numbers over the course of years.........things like catch %, drop %, INT's thrown when he's targeted and passer rating when targeted. Those were all TERRIBLE last year. He's been a better this year but it's a contract year(see Tremaine Edmunds 2022 bump) and offensive changes have given him a bump..........the underlying issues are still there as he continues to kill drives with pics thrown his way and inexcusable drops. 3) Like I said.......fans who don't follow the rest of the league ver closely see Davis' bulk stats and say how is that not a top WR2? The bulk stats don't come close to telling the story. Davis would be a much better fit as WR3 because the throws required to utilize him are difficult...........Allen makes them look much easier than most QB's.........but the second option in an offense should be a player who can regularly keep your offense on schedule. Gabe can't do that. He is still going to drop most anything that's tight window or contested so the quick game is pretty much out. They actually tested him out on the first Josh Allen play of preseason with a quick slant and he dropped it and I think that re-affirmed what they had seen before........dude just can't help you in the quick game at all.
  15. I believe @GunnerBill source. McDuffie is a very nice player but doesn't have the physical traits they want outside. But either way.........should have been looking receiver with that pick. CB is a pretty easy position to fill in this defense. I felt Tre White was the best CB in the 2017 draft but I didn't think taking him was a great idea either. Don't need first round picks outside if you are predominantly zone defense.
  16. What any Bills fan should want from Gabe Davis is for him to be WR3. It's nothing personal he just isn't on par with the talent of most of the best teams WR2. As I've said.........the Bills have successfully condensed a lot of the defense's they've played this season and opened up the outside receivers for better opportunities..........but Gabe is still dropping passes and balls that come his way are still turning into interceptions too often. The bar at the top of the league is very high for WR2............Devonta Smith and Brandon Aiyuk with the top 2 SB contenders of the NFC.........Tee Higgins and Jaylen Waddle are WR2 for 2 of the 3 teams in the AFC that are most likely to keep the Bills out of the SB. People want to say "well look at what the Chiefs are doing"............well, they are playing with house money so they can experiment.........but more importantly Josh Allen is not Patrick Mahomes. They are just different kinds of QB. Mahomes is a point guard/ shortstop playing QB. He is built to distribute the football quickly and accurately from any angle without concern about mechanics. Allen is near equally great in his own ways.........but he's not a guy who you want throwing no-look passes off one foot. He doesn't have the same accuracy and ball placement and timing on shorter throws/screens etc.. He's worked at it but it's not natural to him. He's built to be a traditional under center, drop back/play action guy........and then really kill teams with throws to areas of the field that most can't even reach........and occasionally burn them with huge runs. That skillset Allen has is the only reason Gabe Davis is even a talking point. There are teams Gabe couldn't even play for. He couldn't even make the Miami Dolphins roster. He just doesn't get open quickly enough or catch contested passes well enough to be a good player in some offense's. He's a scheme fit for teams that can protect the QB well enough to hold the ball for 3-5 seconds enough times for Gabe to get 3-4 good looks per game. Which is a small list of teams.
  17. All the moping and hyperbole about the impact of injuries......... From the same people who said that the Bills MLB position was a complete disaster heading into the season(and Bernard has been excellent)..........and the same people who said the 2021 season was over when Tre White was injured(and they then proceeded to play far better football without him the rest of the season). Some of you need to accept the fact that you don't know sh!t and maybe let things play out JUST a bit.
  18. Did you say minus Star? GTFOH! We have some real jokers on this site. Poona Ford was a better player than Daquon Jones before "DQ" came to a team that has a dynamic offense and plays with leads much more often than not. So let's not pretend that Jones was Aaron Donald. Settle and Ford have an opportunity to elevate their games the next few weeks. If they don't then they can call one of the veteran ring chasing free agent DT's or look for a trade. Just be very glad they didn't extend Jones to some 8 figure aav deal just because he was playing at a high level. His growing veteran know-how is crossing paths with his declining durability. He plays for an organization that has some of the fewest soft-tissue injuries in the league but he's popped two of them off the bone in his last 6 games.
  19. Hey I wish the Bills second option in the passing game didn't have stone hands like Gabriel Davis............but if defense's want to keep allowing Diggs and Davis to be more productive and efficient........and the team keeps averaging 32 per game........I can deal with Dalton Kincaid having more of a normal first half of rookie TE season while he adjusts to the Bills relatively complicated offense. Team really needs to upgrade Davis' position to take their game to another level..........until they do they still have a drive killing weakness that better defense's can exploit.
  20. As someone who was against drafting another CB in round 1 for McD's system........you don't need to apologize to me.......Christian Benford is basically proving my point that you can get similar production at CB in this system much later in the draft(Benford hasn't been that much better, contrary to some opinions). But Elam hasn't been trash from day 1. He's made some big plays. Reminds me a bit of how Xavien Howard started out. You can see the talent but Elam is a good example of why you don't use first round picks on players who don't naturally fit your system.
  21. I've seen CB's go from being terrible for multiple seasons to becoming good starters enough times......and he's in a great environment to keep him on point............so I am not counting Elam out just yet, myself.
  22. He's not a great player anymore though...........just a super weird illogical nonsense spewing idiot.
  23. Nah......dude just has some serious mental illness going on. MUCH of the sh!t he says is just utter, idiotic nonsense.........but something he did re-inforces an opinion held by some and they make the mistake of thinking that Smith must be insightful. Nope.
  24. It seems that it hurts the feelings of some here that the Bills can't just go 5 wide and have Josh Allen toss 4 yard passes from the shotgun all day because Spencer Brown isn't one of the best pass blocking RT's in the league. But not me..........the Bills are much more dynamic with 6(or 7) blockers in. So I couldn't care less about TE stats when Diggs or Davis are wide open outside/downfield because the defense isn't able to spread out and play 2 high with the safeties out to the numbers like when Rob Johnson was the QB. The outside WR are clearly on pace for much better seasons than last year as a result. That's where the TE numbers are going to. Now imagine if BOTH of those receivers were studs instead of one of them being Gabe Davis.
  25. Yes, as discussed we know that there are people on TSW who thought Epenesa was worthless coming into this season and wanted to release him rather than trade Boogie Basham. The reality is that Epenesa had 6.5 sacks on just 38% of the defensive snaps last season. He has a PFF grade of 85 and has 3 sacks and has made a bunch of big plays this season. All it takes is one team...........just like with Bradley Chubb(also a pending free agent) last season........and Epenesa is playing A LOT better than Chubb was.
