The number of holding penalties earlier in the year was waaay down early on.. the the last half of the season it was much closer to normal. However, that is because in previous years holding penalties were always waaaay higher during the 1st half of the season. So this season, the number of penalties was relatively even throughout the whole year compared to previous season where the first few weeks have a way higher number of holding penalties. I think refs will always revert to their predilections. Look at at specific "crews" history. If they call a lot of pass interference, regardless of league directives they will call a lot of pass interference. The directives from the league may have a short term impact, but barring real rewards or consequences for not following the league directive, the refs will slide back. I don't think it will get back to the some of the extremes where you had more than twice as many holding penalties in the first few weeks of the season compared to the latter weeks, but I do think there will be a more limited increase in the first few weeks next season. When it came out that the league was pushing this, I said it sucked for the Bills because they bet on quicker, penetrating players who were more adversely affected by the lack of holding calls. The league should have communicated this out back in March to let teams make their decisions with his in mind.

I'm confused here because the best attribute Beane has isn't that he hits more often than other GMs. His contracts are always fairly easy to get out of if they turn sour. If they want out of year 3 on Addison then it's a 2 mill dead cap hit. They could walk away this offseason for 4 million if they wanted. Lawson's been surpassed by other players on Miami's roster. He's going to have to work to be the starter next season.

I'm not worried about Daboll being in the AFC East. I'm more concerned about how of the staff he takes with him. I can't see him taking the Jets job though. Tough division to play in.. If I'm a head coach I'm looking at the Texans if they have some clarity on their front office. I'd much rather be facing the AFC South over the AFC East or West

I don't know about Phillips, but Lawson is an afterthought in Miami. He is going to have to work to hold onto a starting spot next season.

It would be the position coaches I'd be the most concerned with.. I'd hate to lose more than a couple of them.

While I agree with sentiment regarding the idiocy of this idea, the rep system is relatively new while post count is not, so older posters will have a lot of posts when there was no rep system.

That's unfortunate. I think this is the 1 job that doesn't have some questions swirling around it. The only thing here is there will be an expectation of 10 wins / playoffs the 1st season. I'm hoping they won't want to wait until after the Superbowl to get a HC.

They're going to hate on it because it's reactionary garbage. He was running against a team that had it's playoff hopes dashed and was abused for 3 quarters with an offense that couldn't stay on the field. They were gassed and ready to go golfing. So while it was nice to see it.. pretending it's the same thing is a waste of words.

Scuttlebutt is that the Bills took issue with some of the Dolphins actions. The Miami herald reported that the Bills were running the ball to run out the clock and got upset by the Dolphins calling timeouts with the game out of reach so they dialed up a deep ball.

It's like Allen wasn't even wearing a body brace for half of the last 8 weeks.
