  1. Paul McGuire was the Bills punter and also played linebacker, Lou Groza was an all-pro tackle who kicked FG's, Cookie Gilchrist was a RB, DT, and kicker in canada. George Blanda was a star QB in the early days of the AFL before he became the old reliable FG kicker. In college people forget that Jim Brown was a place kicker as well. I remember the hubbub when the Bills signed Pete Gogolak, the first soccer style kicker, and he proceeded to nail 58 yarder in a preseason game. A good deal of the hubbub was that he wasn't a "football" player, but a "soccer" player.
  2. 12/8/1963. Bills vs. Jets. Gilchrist rushes for 243 yards and 5 TD's in a mosh pit. At the time the pro football rushing record. Cookie was fun to watch on the field.
  3. As an Original 50+ year bills fan, the only RB's in the history of the Franchise that can compare with CJ are the criminal in jail in Vegas, and Joe Cribbs. No one else has had the speed, instincts, or elusiveness. And by the way, I think Thermal is an amazing RB.
  4. Based on their comments about speed and scheme, can't wait to see Pettine's D hit the field. Now we have to be able to score.
  5. Glad they Recognized Tom Sestak, Hopefully someday the PFHOF Veterans Committee will as well, He was the anchor of the great Bills D's of 63-64-65-66.
  6. Totally agree, that hit changed the AFL forever, and raised the bar towards parity
  7. CJ now has competition for the title of fastest bill
  8. With Jacoby Jones and CJ on the same team, how did Clemson ever lose a game?
  9. David Walker, RB coach with the Colts, could he be an OC candidate. SU Grad High character guy from Western NY.
  10. I saw the Stratton hit on Lincoln. Except for the Taylor hit on Theismann, I cannot recall a hit that changed a game so profoundly. Stratton completely changed the tenor and momentum of that game and the AFC Championship.
  11. I have a daughter who lives in San Diego, and grew up in Buffalo. Buffalo has better schools, more affordable housing, and a more committed fan base. Coaches can keep a lot more $ in Buffalo than in San Diego. If the weather forecast in San Diego is promising, your tickets go up on stub hub and you head to the beach. Charger's Ownership make Ralph look like a saint.
  12. If CJ got the average # of Carries (19 /gm) of the 9 backs in front of him in the rushing standings, he would have 1400 yards, 7 touchdowns, 58 first downs, and the Bills would be 7-4. Chan must go. He's not using his most effective weapon. When a back is averaging 6.7 ypc, why are you trying innacurate passes on 1-10, 2-10 or 3-5? :-(
  13. My brother in law was his tax accountant, said he was a great human being, gave Rachael Ray her start on TV. RIP
  14. I like the idea of Freddie as a third down, short yardage, red zone back, because it give you the option of the screen to CJ in the slot, which is nearly impossible to defend. Freddie is a better power runner up the gut, and I think he is still a better pass protector than CJ.
  15. Aaron Williams is incompetent as a shutdown corner.
  16. Love this thread, Next thing is going to be that someone appeals to WNY native Goodell to let the Bills bring back Greggo as DC, since he's a defensive genius.
  17. You have to agree that Fred was a stud on a couple of third & shorts in the 4th Qtr, moved the sticks with gutty inside running.
  18. According to Peter King of SI, Hochuli has been running regular testing and training sessions even during the lockout. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/09/26/referees-deal/
  19. I will say that FJ probably is better at running over people than CJ. I was at the game Sunday, and was most impressed with CJ. I also think that with Nelson out, when FJ comes back, either he or Spiller in the slot, particularly with some of the run game wrinkles Gailey has devised are going to give DC's around the league a lot of room for thought. FJ and Spiller are both serious YAC threats from the slot.
  20. I wuz there, in a sky box. I couldn't f'n believe that the special teams didn't stay in their lanes. The play was close, My seat was at the Bills 20, and it looked forward to me, but replays tell me that it was SO close even a replay official wouldn't have overturned, (or they would have had to have been airlifted out of the stadium). Not sure why they didn't try to kick it out of bounds or some safe play to prevent a return....
  21. I was there, but would love to again see the game in 1963 in the Rock Pile when Cookie Gilchrist broke the (at the time) pro football record for rushing yards (243) in a game on a field that looked like a mosh pit. How he did it is beyond me, no one else on the field could keep their footing, he just ran over people all day long.
  22. Hampton Inn Geneseo. Easy shot down 20A to the OP. Avoid most of the Thruway hassle
  23. OJ Simpson was a track star (at one time held a world relay record in the 4x200). Bullet Bob Hayes was an Olympic Champion and a deep threat Darrell Green was a track star (10.08 100 m) Deion Sanders was a track star Santana Moss was a track star Elbert Dubenion was a track star Herschel Walker was a track star James Lofton was a track star Willie Gault was a track star CJ Spiller was a track star Brian Moorman was a track star Don Beebe was a track star Jim Brown once ran in a track meet and then played lacrosse at the same day at Syracuse and I believe finished in the top 5 in the AAU decathlon in 1955. There's a decent correlation between track speed and football speed.
  24. There is a swing tackle available, already living in Western NY . Adam Terry Syracuse 6-8 335. Can play both Right & Left Tackle. VERY high Character guy, who if his knees are healthy would be solid depth. He started ahead of Gaither at Baltimore, and was signed when Pears was released by Jax. Worth a try Buddy!
  25. NY State Tax for the high Income folks is .06875. NY has a "pac-man" tax that eliminates your deductions and exemptions above a certain income level. In addition, the visiting teams have to pay NYS Income Tax When they come to Buffalo, but the Bills pay other State Taxes when they travel unless they are NYS Residents for Tax Purposes. So if the Titans or Cowboys (Texas & TN have no state Income Tax) come to Buffalo, NY gets those taxes as well, and the Bills that live year-round in Buffalo, still have to pay their NYS Resident taxes even if they play in a no-income tax state (e.g. Florida, Tennessee, Texas).
