We knew the Bills would lose @9ers in April
CodeMonkey replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never had anything make me laugh so much and make me sick both at the same time. Well played. -
If your soul gets ripped out by a sports team all I can say is wow. It does have trap game written all over it. But only 4.5, and IN AZ! Tough one to lay off of if you have a taste for gambling (and can bet against the Bills).
-
I agree with you that if you are going to be a professional gambler that sports betting is the way to go. If, like you say, you put the time in to look closely at the games you are far more likely to find favorable odds that way that in any of the casino games. And as you say it is sometimes more pop-oriented. They need people to bet, so making the odds of the Bills making the playoffs 1:10 for example would discourage anyone (except the Senator maybe ) from making a bet. And without people betting Vegas makes nothing. So if they make it tempting for Bills fans and maybe some others they get the bets. And if the Bills in this case say make the playoffs with a push bet it isn't so bad as Vegas does expect to pay off sometimes. And they will make it up, and then some, when two other push bets go their way. So in the long run Vegas is going to make money and is not in business from making stupid bets, but you can make money as a gambler if you find the right bets to make. And making assumptions about a teams ability to make the playoffs, for example, based solely on Vegas prop bet odds is not sound in my opinion.

If I remember correctly before Gailey was hired Cowher stated one thing he needed to coach again would be an established QB. He would not take the time to find and groom one. Guess what team doesn't qualify.

VERY weak fan base in here....
CodeMonkey replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not everyone bought in completely. A lot, like myself, thought that the offense would be mediocre to bad this season. And that's what they have been. They do OK against the bottom feeder defenses, but against anything decent they fold like a cheap suit,. But I don't think anyone, and I mean anyone who follows football at all, thought that with Wanny as DC and the off season acquisitions that the Bills defense could possibly be this horrifically bad 5 games into the season. I mean an Alex Smith led offense broke an ALL TIME NFL RECORD for Christs sake (http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/10/07/san-francisco-49ers-nfl-record-300-yards/1619289/). Not that Alex Smith is terrible, but come on! I certainly did not expect the Bills defense to be this bad. We can only hope that somehow Wanny and his boys figure something out and get their heads out of their butts before this Sunday or it could prove to be almost as bad as yesterday. -

I would say probably a week from Monday. I don't hold out much hope against AZ. But the Titans at home I'm still hopeful. -
Like you said below that, they are not ready to risk money this early in the season that the Bills are a bad team. That is their business and they do not take wild ass risks with their money, which is why they make Billions every year. Yes it is cold hard numbers, like it is with Vegas always. No emotion, unlike fans of a particular team. A push bet does not mean Vegas thinks the Bills will make the playoffs. It just means they are not prepared to give big odds that they will not. Surely you must understand this.
-
All this means is that Vegas is not ready to risk that the Bills, particularly the defense, is really as bad as they have been showing this season. It is early in the season and Vegas, unlike gamblers, don't take big risks. They will wait until they are sure before they sweeten the pot with better prop odds. It is not that they think the Bills are a good bet to make the playoffs, they just aren't prepared to risk that the still could, yet. I love your enthusiasm by the way.

I agree that the rest are winnable. But except for the Titans and maybe the Jets I do not feel confident in any games. And I would not be surprised at all if this Sunday is another blowout Bills loss. As I posted last week, if the Bills D line does not show up expect career games from Smith and Kolb. Smith got his (and even sat half of the 4th), now we wait and see if Kolb gets his.

Officially embarassed to be a Bills Fan
CodeMonkey replied to Kodiak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Forever ... or at least as long as the Bills are in Buffalo. The Bills franchise has been around for more than 50 years and have sucked the vast majority of that time. They expect, and will get, significant support just as long as fans have hope at the start of the season like they did this year. My kids even take it in stride now. They are still fans and wear their Bills stuff to school during the season. But yesterday for example, they were expecting a loss and were disappointed in the extreme with the performance. They were over it shortly after the clock mercifully ran out in the 4th. It might be easier for them however than those of us that saw the early 90's. In their entire lives they have never seen a good Bills team. -
anyone else numb to all this?
CodeMonkey replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills were only in it early because of some big pass plays by SF that got called back on stupid penalties. Leodis has a nice punt return called back early as well, but SF had considerably more. So the "hanging in there" was largely an illusion. Not watching it is the right call. -
Even when the team was good in the 90's December games didn't always sell out. Open-air-stadium + Buffalo-winter = no-sell-out But yeah, when the team sucks butt like now it makes it impossible. December will be blackout month in the Buffalo market if this continues, which maybe isn't a bad thing this year.

Maybe the Bills should take notes...

Doesn't appear to have a sore wrist anyway. -
I thought the punter had a good game, and is now also holding for Lindell. But why the F is T-Jack not at least dressing at this point. I'd dress him and if Fitz is ... well ... Fitz the first half of the game put T-Jack in. Maybe a wakeup call is in order.for the O as well as the D.

The Gailey Era Is All But Over
CodeMonkey replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course firing him is also predicated upon finding someone else, hopefully better, that will take the job. That situation is what brought Gailey to Buffalo in the first place if you remember. -
Bills Set A record For Defense And For My Quit Time
CodeMonkey replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The titans at home should be winnable. Or at the very least not a blowout loss. If it is a bad loss then the season really is over. -
The Gailey Era Is All But Over

All he has to do in my opinion is to have a reasonable showing late in the season. If he manages to pull out another 6-10 I suspect he will be the head coach next season. -
Where's Buddy??? Missing in action along with his defense?
CodeMonkey replied to rcatty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In theory, AZ is another one of those teams. We will see in 8 days. -

Yeah but how did you like the first 35 minutes of the game? -
I am outraged! When will the favoritism of the pats* end? It is so obvious that NE are the darlings of King Roger and never get fined . Oh wait ...
-
What kind of a Bills fan would choose to watch a quality game when they could be watching the Bills instead????
-
Doing something after the Jets game would have been a knee jerk. Doing something after ridiculous showings against both the Jets and the Pats* is not. I'm not talking about firing Stache or Gailey necessarily, you can't do that without having someone else lined up. But an ancillary to your first sentence might be "You don't react in this business and you lose". As to the talent level, I agree that on paper this team is more talented. But so far the teams in the ChaNix era have yet to reach the records of the previous regime that people could not wait to run out of town. Some reaction is warranted. Maybe this GR interview was it.
