  1. A long way to go on those deals both could easily turn it around and make those deals seem worth it.
  2. Tre has been pretty good from my eye test? I know he hasn’t quite been his former self but I think he is still a quality player. Bengals WR’s will test the secondary for sure.
  3. The Oline is better at run blocking than they are at pass blocking. The offense needs to lean into that if they want to win these games. Have to use the run to set up the pass
  4. I think if Brown was healthy consistently he would be a much better player. He had back surgery during the offseason and couldn’t practice until late August so he couldn’t learn a new scheme then just as he starts to pick up his play he gets an ankle injury and misses a few games. I think his play against the Bears was his best game so here is hoping he is turning a corner again. If I were McBeane I would bring in a vet RT to compete with him in 2023 I know they brought in Queese but they need someone there who is a better pass blocker. It would push Brown and help him by having a vet to learn from and help the Oline depth which has been pretty bad this season. I am fine with the Dawkins-Bates-Mitch side of the line but the right side of the line and the depth are horrible. Likely have to spend the teams first round pick or a RT or RG and a 3rd or 4th round pick at center to get an heir apparent for Mitch and solidify the depth
  5. I think the Jets are going to go after Jimmy G hard or trade up for a QB and have Mike White as the placeholder and Flacco as the mentor. They have a nice roster and will have the cap space to add some pieces but they lack a QB and that’s going to set them back from being anything more than a “good” team. Dolphins have a lot of talent on the roster but don’t have a ton of draft capital nor do they have great cap space. They also have a fragile and limited QB in Tua. Even if they manage to patch up the Oline and add a piece or two to the defense they will be in a similar situation to the Jets tough but nothing more. The Pats have the draft capital and cap space to make serious moves but they also don’t have a good QB and are the least talented of the three AFCE teams. Once again I can see them going on a big spending spree to add some playmakers on offense but as long as Mac Jones is their QB and they are unable to acquire real difference makers at WR they will be a solid but unspectacular team. The AFCE is likely going to be a tough division going forward. All 3 teams will likely have good defenses and will supplement their offensive talent in some fashion. The Jets are the most threatening in my opinion because they aren’t locked into a mediocre QB situation but acquiring a QB for them won’t be easy either. The Bills should still be able to handle the division but it won’t be an cakewalk at any point in the next 2 years in my opinion.
  6. It is a very solid draft overall. Bass is a ST gem, Davis is a solid WR2 even if he in year 3 hasn’t blossomed into the Pro Bowl player we had hoped he still in 14 games (with a few games playing really hurt) close to 800 yards and 7 TD’s. Given his age I think he develops more in year 4. AJE has 6.5 sacks this season and is developing into a pretty effective DE certainly will be a high end rotational DE or better in his career. Dane Jackson is a solid CB, good depth and a nice dime back too. That draft produced 4 really productive players along with a nice UDFA find in Gilliam. It is not a home run draft yet (certainly a nice double) but if Davis and AJE take another step up it certainly could be.
  7. Daboll’s 2022 is very reminiscent of the Bills 2017 season. The Bills in 2017 over achieved massively and didn’t have great rankings on either side of the ball but they found ways to win games despite not being a really talented team. The question for Daboll and the Giants is who will be their QB? Do they have faith that Danny Jones on a contract that is at least going to eat up 25ish million a year is the answer? Will they go all out and draft a rookie and trade away the farm and reset the clock so to speak? The Bills in 2017 had already acquired massive draft capital with 5 picks in the first three rounds (after the Benjamin trade) and were clearly aiming for the 2018 QB class. The Giants don’t have that same draft capital and trajectory. They have some nice talent on both sides of the ball but they need a direction at QB.
  8. After 2021 the Bills had a significant amount of needs. So it isn’t like this team is in that bad shape going into 2023. Going into 2021 The Dline needed a massive overhaul. Vernon Butler and Star were really trash up the middle, Harry was also a free agent. Jerry and Addison while not tragic were not getting it done off the edge. Defensively the team also had a need at corner as Levi Wallace was not getting it done and Tre was coming off a serious injury. The Bills also had a need at RG and needed to get better at RB. The team also needed to address the slot WR position. Beane tried to make significant moves at all these areas of need. Von was brought in to be the killer edge rusher and Shaq was brought in for vet depth. The DT room was completely overhauled to be bigger and tougher against the run. And Elam was drafted up high to get faster and more athletic at corner. On offense they brought in Crowder and OJ Howard to address the loss of Beasley and Sanders (while also drafting Shakir) and then drafted Cook to be more dynamic out the backfield and added Saffold to address the RG spot. The defensive moves ended up working out better as the DT overhaul and the additions of Shaq and Von have been great while Elam looks to be a nice addition to the secondary even if he is a bit uneven at times. Offensively the addition of Cook and the in season acquisition of Hines are looking good but at WR Crowder got hurt and Howard was a bust. Saffold has also been pretty bad at RG.
  9. Fully agree with this list. Cook/Motor/Hines are a really good trio of RB’s. But as a duo Motor and Cook aren’t the best. Doesn’t mean they can’t get the job done and the Bills don’t have a good stable of backs just no need to get crazy. My hope is that Hines and Motor come back on reasonable deals. Hines adds a lot of value as a receiver and returner while Motor is a nice all around back. They would both complement Cook nicely.
  10. Pats made the playoffs last year without Brady and are not tragic this year. It’s Billy B’s job for at least 2-3 more years.
  11. Wilson lost the locker room and I don’t think he is right for the brutal NYC media market. Odds are he gets traded for a conditional mid round pick and the Jets make a move up for a rookie QB and have Flacco as the vet mentor and Mike White as the stop gap. I am not so sure what team would want to kick the tires on him. Perhaps a team with a vet QB that might be interested in developing him for a year or two.
  12. If KC loses and the Bills win they get the one seed if the Bills beat the Bengals they clinch the two seed at worst. If they just beat the Vikings they would be sitting at just having to split the last two games for the one seed.
  13. I would rather spend the cap dollars on the Oline or retaining defensive talent. Jacobs is a beast but I think James Cook is a ready to roll player and the team can bring back Hines as a return and third down back. You then could bring in a pure back up to platoon with Cook (hopefully Motor if his number is reasonable) on the cheap.
  14. I think there are more viable QB’s now than 20 years ago for sure. I think 20 years ago a player like Jared Goff would be a low end to 10 QB whereas now he is more like the 16th to 18th best QB in the NFL. I think the issue with expansion is that the NFL owners don’t want to split these big TV deals 34+ ways as the expansion fee while north of 6 billion is nice it would easily be eaten away at over time as you have to split your revenue more. I think what’s holding up expansion is the owners wanting expansion to occur internationally and not domestically. There really isn’t a domestic market that would really entice expansion now that LA and Vegas have teams. Expanding to Mexico City might be hard to do as I am not sure if the NFL feels like the city can sustain interest in a team full time (although at some point in the next 20 years I would bet they expand to Mexico City.) Then expanding to London and other areas of Europe would be fiscally viable but would the logistics would be insane. TLDR: Expansion is being held off likely because of the league wants to expand internationally and not because of QB play.
  15. Shockingly to my eye test he has been pretty good as a run defender which was not his strong suit in 2019 when he broke out with 10 sacks. I think his pass rush hasn’t been bad but it has not been as expected but I also think he has two bang up injuries which hasn’t helped him get more consistent.
  16. AJ, Boogie and Groot have all had a nice step up esp in Von’s absence. Shaq is also putting together a nice season which is helping esp in run defense.
  17. Not only are the Bills divisional champs but they also are at worst the three seed. Still a lot of work to do with a very tough game against Cincy and a not so easy game against the Patriots. It wasn’t pretty but the Bills took care of business fairly comfortably in a hostile weather environment away. That clinched the division, the three seed and the Bills keep their one seed hopes and destiny in their own hands for another week.
  18. James Cook had a good game as did Singletary, good to see the running game from the RB’s bailing out Josh having a mediocre game. The Bills hang onto the number one seed for one more week. Two wins away from the number one seed and the 3 seed at worst.
  19. Still too early to tell on Wilson but the early returns not great.
  20. I think guard is a better target in round 1, likely have to try to get a back/future replacement for Mitch in round 4ish range too. Probably also have to bring in some better depth players and a vet RT to compete with Brown. I think Brown could develop into a solid RT but his health could be preventing him from developing. This team needs to bring in some competition for him. Ideally next year the line would look like Dawkins-Bates-Mitch-Rookie-Brown/Vet RT The team then kicks the loser of the RT battle to the bench has a draft pick backing up Mitch and brings in a vet or two to round out the bench.
  21. The Bills likely need to bring in a vet RT to compete with Brown and add depth. The Bills also likely need to spend 2 picks in the first 4 rounds to bring in a right guard and a heir apparent/depth at center. They also likely need a couple more decent backups on the Oline.
  22. Brown got off to a slow start but then just as he was gaining some form he hurt his ankle. I am hoping he is getting healthy again and his play improves
  23. Bills have constantly showed the heart of a champion since losing to Minnesota in a heartbreaker. They got a game snowed out while dealing with a flu outbreak then won a close game against a red hot Lions team 4 days later. The Bills won their third game in 11 days against the Pats comfortably. Then the Bills play a pair of games in bad weather against tough divisional opponents and they win both games and keep the one seed for another week
  24. The 49ers are a great team minus the QB, and that is going to win a lot of games in the regular season when you can run an offense with several elite playmakers (Debo, Kittle and CMC) while also having a good Oline and a great defense and solid ST unit. But come the playoffs you will be forced into a situation where you have to have your QB make plays as you are going to face teams with good to great QB’s a good to great defenses consistently. Kudos to the 49ers they sealed their division and took care of business but can they do this style of play and win 3 playoff games to get to the SB? I think that’s not likely.
  25. Hamlin played way better than Johnson, Hamlin may not be the best in coverage (although he isn’t tragic in coverage) but he is a really physical hitter and a good tackler. Definitely adds some physicality to the defense.
