Geno Smith to Las Vegas for a 3rd Round Pick
billsfan89 replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wonder if this is a sign that Seattle is getting Darnold? Geno's not a franchise guy but he's a "starting" caliber QB. Carroll has a lot of familiarity with him so it makes sense for the Raiders who have nothing at QB to at least get competent QB play esp for a fairly modest price. It kind of allows the Raiders to "punt" on this years QB class which isn't the best and then when they make a move for a QB in 2026 they still have a veteran option in there in Geno to be a stop gap. -
He’s a top 10 MLB in the league at age 25, seems like a fair deal

Beane locking up both Bernard and Shakir takes care of 2 out of 5 2026 pending free agents. I suspect Beane is going to try to get one more done at a minimum. Good business so far, paying both players for how they currently are producing but these deals become tremendous bargains if they produce more which they could only entering their 4th seasons.

It wouldn't excite me too much. Maybe if this was paired with an edge rusher at 30 and Bosa is just a stop gap. But Bosa hasn't been a consistently dynamic player for awhile. And while he is just 30 he's been in the league for 8 seasons and banged up the past 3 seasons.

Jones needs to be a backup/rotational player not a starter anymore, no argument from me. But I think he can still be a productive player in a more limited role. There's not much in the way of cap savings by cutting him this year and he's an expiring contract so no need to worry about cap savings in 2026.

DK Metcalf requests trade to a contender
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chargers would make the most sense. They need a boundary WR and they fit what DK wants. They also have the cap to absorb a big contract after cleaning up their books in 2024 with a big dead cap number. -
I figured when they signed it they would at least have a reasonable out in year 3, usually 3 year deals in the NFL if you don't restructure them the third year is a low dead cap hit if any. Just an odd contract to sign. Jags smartly resetting their roster. Only issue is will you put a lackluster team around Lawrence? B. Thomas is a dynamic piece their RB's are solid but not much else. Maybe just cut all the fat eat all the dead cap and draft mostly offense and use whatever cap dollars you have on adding a piece or two on the offense. You might have a terrible defense but then you can once you clean your books after 2025 you then will have the chance to build back up your defense and add what is missing to the offense.

He will be 32 which is very on the border of past their prime for DT's and he's coming off a season where he was hurt (although he was very durable prior to 2024). I wouldn't hate it for a modest price but I think D.Jones is a solid veteran backup 1-Tech who this team already has under contract and the cap savings on cutting Jones is only 2 million so just on the cap it makes more sense to keep Jones and not sign Hargrave who will still cost some sort of moderate cap hit and might not present that much of an upgrade.

I think much like other sports the allure of "youth" and a cheap contract is what drives a lot of value that isn't there.

Just doesn't seem like a proper fit, Bills have two quality slot options in Shakir (one of the best slot WR's in the league) and Samuel. Bills need a WR capable of playing consistently on the boundary. DK would be perfect of course that's gonna come at a cost of draft and cap capital but if a dynamic defensive player isn't on the market at a reasonable price and given that this is a deep defensive line draft class perhaps it is better to trade for DK and solidify the offensive and then tackle the defense with a mid-tier CB via free agency and going heavy in the draft.
-
Thuney is going to be 33 this season and he's on a big contract. I would imagine that's why he went for such a relatively low cost in terms of draft capital.

Wouldn't hate Adams while investing in a WR in round 2.

Gonzo Mock Draft Version 3.0 Final Version( Starts on Page 7)
billsfan89 replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
From a quick Google Search it has apparently since the NFL expanded to 32 teams has not happened where every team has held its own first round pick going into the draft or at least going into the off-season. -
I really like Crosby as a good 3-4 year play, he's going to be 28 and he would give this team a big time "war daddy" pass rusher for 3-4 years which fits the teams needs and allows them some time to develop players behind him. But I honestly don't think the Raiders are going to trade him. Garett at age 30 at a high cost of picks and cap space just seems like too much of a gamble. DK I like a lot but I think the need for a defensive dynamic pass rusher is greater. If I had to rank them. Crosby DK Garrett

In the 4 games Diggs and Nico Collins fully played Collins had 10 more targets than Diggs. -
DK Metcalf requests trade to a contender
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
As a WR2 getting less targets that's very good. Meyers numbers only picked up once Adams was traded. He was on pace for about 128 targets which is about 35-40 less targets than he was getting as the WR1 in Buffalo. I think factoring in context if you want to still say he wasn't elite he wasn't very far off either. -
Seems like if you really cared about cultivating international fans you would make the tickets available to local fans. The NFL clearly has data that there's more money to be made selling to Americans traveling. Penny wise dollar foolish move, another one of those corporate moves that's just about short term dollars and not building longer term.

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
billsfan89 replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wouldn't hate Adams on a one year deal plus drafting a WR in round 2 to develop behind him and provide depth. Then spend pick 30 and the other 2nd on the defensive line or trade one of those picks for a bigger pass rusher. Is the class meh or is it just not filled with a lot of dynamic top 10 caliber prospects but still very solid depth overall? I am just not too familiar with this draft class just yet other than D-line is very strong and QB is thought of as being weak. -
It's a solid move as a 5th round pick is not massive draft capital they are basically taking him on with cap dollars. I think the Commanders if they can get another solid boundary WR opposite Scary Terry and use Deebo more as a complementary weapon and not a super heavy volume player I think it can work out well for the Commanders.

DK Metcalf requests trade to a contender
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Diggs was elite for the first 6 games of 2023. In the first 6 games of 2023 he had five 100 yard games and his numbers through 6 games were 49 catches, 620 yards, on 66 targets totaling a 74% catch percentage on heavy volume with 5 TD's. In the next 11 games he had 58 receptions for 563 yards on 94 targets a 61.7% catch percentage with only 3 TD's and zero 100 yard games. He just was not the same player after those first 6 games. To Diggs credit he did have a very good game in week 17 catching 7 of 8 targets for 87 yards in a game that won the Bills the division. But he was very inefficient after those first 6 games. With the Texans he was having a very productive season in 2024. He had a 73% catch percentage and in 8 games he had 496 yards on 47 catches with 3 TD's in an offense where he was the second option at WR. So he seemed to be validating the theory that he got hurt and that impacted his play in 2023. -
A highly efficient slot WR getting 800-900 yards a season hauling in 85-90% of his targets is worth 15 million a year. Shakir got a deal in line with him continuing to produce like he did in 2024. It's a smart deal because it is likely Shakir will improve and his contract will be a great value. But if he stays the same he is not overpaid.

Rodgers on field last season showed he can still be a decent starting caliber QB. The issue is he comes with so much off field baggage.

There's gotta be a stud defensive player on the market to be traded for. Crosby and Garrett may not be on the market. The offense still needs a quality boundary WR. -
Dorion Williams youngest LB in league this year to lead in tackles
billsfan89 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
I remember the reception to the pick being OK. I don't think many people had strong opinions on it either way. Pundits said it was OK and fans usually go off of that. Personally I thought it was an OK pick. I remember people being very down on the Bernard pick as it was considered a massive reach.
