Some might get into the consumer level but most is just going to end up in wealthy people buying more assets which might inflate asset prices in the short term but it won't generate economic activity that will actually produce consumer demand. The investor class is getting a big wet kiss from these tax cuts but your are a fool to think that it will actually generate significant economic activity.

Rams and Bills May Have Discussed Hughes Trade
billsfan89 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Bills were hoping for a great haul from the win now Rams who might have overpaid for a pass rusher like Hughes. It doesn't shock me that the Bills who struggled early in the year might have listened to an offer for Hughes. A second round pick and a late or mid round pick is likely the offer the Bills wanted. The Rams were probably willing to offer a third rounder and considering the value Hughes could have to the team in 2019 its likely they weren't trading him unless they got a good return. I wouldn't rule out pass rusher in round 1 but I don't think that's a given. I think they go BPA either an OT, Pass rusher, or Corner. -
The O-line didn't play that well last year going from an elite unit (particularly in run blocking) in 2015 and 2016 to a fairly average unit in 2017. So the regression coming solely from a lack of talent in 2018 isn't the only blemish on Castillo's resume with the Bills. I think Daboll should get to pick his O-line coach if he wants Castillo then keep him but the team should not be afraid to move on considering they will have at least 2-3 new starters on the unit. As for special teams I don't think you can blame a ST coach for every miscue on the unit. But the things that are in a ST coaches control have been very bad this year and were subpar last year. The punt and kick coverage hasn't been good in a lot of games. Yeah sometimes a dynamic returner will break one but this is happening too often to not be a reflection of bad coaching. Like most things with special teams the leash is very short. So if a unit underperforms for 2 years in a row you have to make dramatic changes.

Probowl selections - No Bills Selected
billsfan89 replied to One Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was shocked White didn't make it, dude has been good, Milano deserved it not sure if his injury impacted it. Hyde, Proyer, Hughes, Kyle, and Lorax were on the bubble could have went either way, but White is a big snub. -
I would have to watch the games again, off the top of my head I would say that the defense floats between mid levels of aggression and low levels of aggression. The defense is at its best when it is fast and attacking but often times the defense will go into a more conservative method of play. I hope that as McD learns to utilize the depth of the D-line and the speed of the linebackers and secondary to be more aggressive in general. I do think the defense is well constructed both from a talent perspective and from a scheme perspective. Its built for the modern NFL (deep rotating D-line, fast linebackers to take away the short passing and screen game, and a good secondary overall) but like any tool its only as good as you wield it. I think the coaching staff needs to adjust the way it utilize the defense.

The Special teams unit this years has been very bad this year and was below average last year. So the results just aren't there the past 2 years. The frustration with Juan Castillo stems from the O-lines sub par performance the past two years, but at least with the O-line you can cite lack of talent in 2018 to explain away bad results.

Not so fun fact-QB 3000 Yd Passing seasons
billsfan89 replied to BobbyC81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
3k yards is not impressive at all, 13 QB's have 3500 or more yards with 2 weeks left in the season (4 QB's already have 4k yards.) 20 QB's have 3k or more yards. 10 or more QB's typically finish with 4k yards. Usually well over 20 QB's finish with 3k in yards passing. -
I agree that I think the reports aren't that credible and they don't make sense. But there has been some level of noise about him. I agree I don't think he will get any interviews but stranger things have happened. I think McD taking over play calling after the disastrous start made him look bad. Its not impossible but from the outside looking in it looks like McD is the driving force of a good defense.
-
His name has been reported by media outside of Buffalo to be connected to other coaching positions. I don't know how much I buy it myself but there have been reports. I didn't think Lynn would get the Chargers job but he did so stranger things have happened. Although I would personally be shocked to see Daboll get an offer, the offense and Allen's development are still a work in progress.

Good for NY, I think that while legal weed is far from all positives no negatives the positives far outweight the negatives. On the positive side of things you take away money from cartels, you bring in much more tax revenue, you create legitimate jobs, you save tax payer money not enforcing petty drug laws against adults, you keep people out of the criminal justice system, you help the opiod epidemic by offering alternatives to people. and you in the long term don't see increased drug use. There are some negatives, use among teens goes up at least in a 5-10 year period before normalizing and some studies say DUI's go up moderately. But overall I think its much better to handle the negatives of legalization than to continue with the massive negatives of prohibition.

Ted Washington not impressed with Bills DL
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Depends on how you define special. There isn't a dominant Aaron Donald, Mack, or JJ Watt pass rusher on the roster. However Hughes and Lorax are pretty dam good players and Kyle put together a good season too. I think the depth is there too, Murphy is a solid rotational pass rusher, Shaq has shown flashes and is still very young, Star does his role well, Jordan Cameron has been solid, and Phillips has been decent in his rotation. The Bills run 7-8 starting caliber defensive linemen plus Lorax out there fairly consistently which is the modern blueprint for NFL defensive lines. I would like to see the Bills add an edge rusher in free agency (Although given the massive resources needed on offense I am not sure how they can do that) because I think they need to improve the pass rush I don't think the D-line is a major issue esp if Shaq and Phillips get going. -
If I am evaluating this team I am not going to be comfortable with only acquiring one receiver and then leaning on Zay, Foster, and Mac. Mac is a nice player but I don't look at him as a top 3 caliber WR. He is a player that you bring in for gadget plays or if a top 3 WR is hurt. He is a good player and adds depth but I don't look at him and think he is good enough to be a top 3 WR. Foster to me is looking like he can be a top 3 WR and Zay flashes at times the ability to be a top 3 WR. I think it would be too dangerous to just add a Tyrell Williams and think Foster, Zay, and Mac can hold down the WR2 and WR3 positions. I would rather draft a WR in round 2 to be the heir apparent to Williams and push Zay to beat him out.
-
I am not buying Mac as anything more than a gadget player. I just think the team needs 2 WR's, a vet and a rookie, at worst if you sign a higher end vet and draft a rookie then you can trade or move on from the vet sooner. But if you overplay your hand on these young guys and they are in over your head then you are *****. I think with the Cap Space and the draft picks they should be able to heavily address the offense at both WR and OL while drafting players behind the vets at TE and RB.

I think the XFL 2020 could work if they make it more of an unofficial development league looking to fill the niche market of winter/spring football. I think they have the right idea in giving themselves much more time to build the infrastructure of the league and get a coherent plan to make the league have a sensible business model. If they can actually get a decent TV deal they might stand a chance to tap sports landscape. I think they learned their lessons from the first time around hopefully. Now granted they could have learned their lessons and still fail.
-
I am not sure Zay is a top 3 WR and Foster might be piling up flashy stats late in season and might not be as good as he seems. I think it is better to surround Allen with a deep fast WR core than to skimp out and think one addition will do. At worst the team has depth and a group of young players to take over for a veteran that was signed.
-
I think you need both a veteran WR like Tyrell Williams and a WR in round 2. I like competition and depth. That would allow you to have a veteran anchor one of the top 3 spots and then have Foster, Zay, and a rookie battle it out for the 2 other WR spots while having Mac as a nice gadget/depth player. Overall I think Foster can be a top 3 WR in the NFL but I am not sure about Zay. I would rather have Zay compete with a rookie and earn a top 3 WR spot. If Zay can't out compete a rookie and Foster he should be relegated to the bench in case of injury.
-
Even if you can count on Foster as a top 3 WR I don't know if Zay is a top 3 NFL WR (I think he can progress to that but I wouldn't want to rely on him) I think you need at least 2 WR's to supplement Foster, Zay, and Mac. The O-line needs 3-4 starters (50/50 on Teller) and there are needs to find younger players at RB and TE. Ideally I would sign or trade for a vet WR T.Williams or Golden Tate while also drafting a WR in rounds 1 or 2. I also wouldn't mind them addressing a defensive need like adding a pass rusher or CB2 (Depending on how the young guys finish out the season.) But the big money should be spent along the O-line where there should be at least high end 2 starters added and a pick in the top 2 rounds. Its not impossible for them to find 3-4 high end starters on offense via free agency and add in 2 more via the draft. Then build depth and youth at TE and RB in rounds 3 and 4. But its a tall order even with the cap space and draft picks.
-
McBeane has to put a lot more talent around him on offense. I mean they have the cap space and draft picks to address various needs so it isn't like they can't do so but that's a big challenge. Besides Dawkins, Allen, and maybe Foster I don't know what good young pieces exist on the roster. Teller and Zay possibly but I am 50/50 on them. So at best you need a WR1, 3 offensive linemen, a tightend of the future, and an RB of the future. I know they have 90 plus million in cap space and a full draft class but that's a lot of acquisitions to hit on in one off season. Plus they might need a player or two on defense.
-
I am not sure if Foster can be a WR2 but I am starting to think he might be. A few weeks ago I though Zay was a WR3 and Foster a WR4 gadget type. Now I am thinking Zay is a bubble WR3 or high end depth WR4 while Foster is a WR3 in the mold of Tyler Gabriel with potential to be a burner WR2. I still would still want the team to try and find 2 proven WR or 1 vet and draft a WR high up. But Foster has made me more of a believer.

It could be, but I think the Fins are going to be possibly playing for a playoff spot (They could be in a win and need help scenario.) So its not a game I would favor the Bills winning. In the event the Bills finish 6-10 they probably pick between 8-11. I honestly am not too upset about them ***** up their draft position but I tend to just want the team to play well and lose a close game haha. I do think that this regime has in early returns on 2 drafts shown that they do know how to draft. So the more picks they have the better. I think they do like to trade up to grab talent so I wouldn't be shocked to see a trade up happen either. Overall I think when you have a front office that knows how to draft getting more picks is never a bad thing. Just to clarify I wouldn't hate BPA either but if a good trade down is there take it.

I think Jones could progress more in year 3. In year 1 Jones looked completely lost and not worthy of being on an NFL roster. In year 2 Jones at least looks like a low end slot receiver. That's not saying much in isolation but it is a huge leap of progression from year 1 to 2. Zay is still young and the QB situation this year was a mess. Give Zay an off-season to build off of his improvement in year 2 and to develop consistency with Allen and I think he develops into a solid WR3. That being said I think the Bills likely need to make a big play for at least one WR via trade or free agency. Foster, Zay, and Mackenzie are all showing that they are capable WR's but I wouldn't want to enter into any season just relying on them. Personally I would bring in a vet WR1 and a rookie WR in round 2. Let Zay, Foster, Mac, and a rookie battle it out, depth is never a bad thing.

2018 was the most important draft for McBeane because that was the one where he had to land his QB. Although the 2019 draft is important because now you have to get talent around the QB getting the QB is still the bigger decision. I think this off-season is huge because the Bills are now in the place where every franchise wants to be in position to spend big while a QB is on a rookie deal. The Bills are in a position similar to where the Rams were in 2017 and the Bears last off-season. Now its time to put Allen in a position to win with a year of experience under his belt and a good defense in place.
-
I suspect the Bills will lose to a highly motivated Pats team next week and at least one or two of the teams ahead of them will win (Giants, Falcons, Detroit, or Tampa Bay) I also think the Dolphins game could be a game that the Fins need to keep their hopes for the playoffs alive so that might be a tough game to win. So if the Bills lose both their last two games they will at least draft between 8-6. A good spot to be to nab an elite OT or even trade down.
-
Cousins has lived up to his end of the bargain, he has been a mid-level to upper mid-level QB (I think its inarguable that he has been at least about average) and despite the various regressions of the team they still are in line for a wildcard birth (Two games left they are playing better recently and their destiny is in their own hands to make the playoffs.) But I do think that the Vikings overestimated their offensive line (Very puzzling they spent their first round pick on the defense when a stud guard like Will Hernandez was on the board) and seeming forgot that Keenum masked a lot of the o-lines issues with his mobility. Cousins is a pocket passer who has some mobility but mostly works within the pocket. But 2018 was the year that the Cousins win now move was supposed to pay off. In 2019 they can keep a lot of the team together but they might lose some defensive talent and they don't have the cap space to add talent. Its clear that the Vikings are going to have to spend their draft picks building the O-line and try and hope they can keep Barr on defense. Maybe if you have better protection for Cousins and better run blocking for Cook (Who has come on strong to end the season) and Murrary the offense becomes a top 5 unit. Then if you keep a good defense together it can seemingly work without needing to have elite components everywhere.

I think Shady can be an elite 3rd down back who can play other downs on occasion. But I think the Bills need to find a back to take the early down work. I am not too high on Ivory but I would keep him for depth as I think he can fit that role. The team does have a need to draft a RB between round 3-5 in order to give the team much needed youth at the position.
