There were 15 TE's who caught 0ver 70% of their targets last year. Knox wasn't one of them. Yes he scored lots of TDs--make him show he can do so again. With massive network/streaming contracts on the near horizon which will likely dwarf the record smashing ones they are about to replace, the "risk" of waiting to pay a guy like this is minimized. The cap increase will make it much easier to pay him an upper tier contract in years to come, if he has another high scoring season in 2022. If he doesn't--and has a 40-50 catch year for 500 or so and a handful of TDs, pay him what that's worth. Logan was injured last season. He is perhaps a cautionary tale for paying a guy for one breakout season.

Knox stepping over the inch high bar set by Buffalo Bills TEs throughout history isn't a reason to back up the Brinks truck. Neither is an outlier TD total. If money savings is the goal, then pay him his current contract this season. If he doesn't have another standout year, then make him an offer that matches his value. Why pay him for one above average year (in a single stat) with a huge contract? Odds are he will not score 9-10 TDs next season. No TE may have that many. Kelce has had 9 or more only 3 times, Andrews twice and Kittles not once.

My point was that paying a TE for having a leading TD year got him that valuation. I don't think it's the metric to base a contract on for TE. Knox has had 1 money year in 3. Why not see how he does 1 more season for peanuts. They can franchise him after that for 11+ million. or pay him.

What are the 49ers paying Kittle 75 million for? Robert Tonyan had more TDs a year ago (11) and also had the most (tied). He was rewarded by the Packers for that with a 3.4 million 1 year contract extension this past season. No one gets a huge contract for being previously underutilized....
-
But the discussion is about Knox, who, in this his best season, was 15th in yards and 18th in catches

I've checked the other 2 "what to do with Edmunds" threads on page 1....the poll doesn't take it to the level you imagined. -
Bills moving toward a return to St. John Fisher for TC

They've been doing it for decades. Why not? It's a big hit with the fans. Plenty of bars for players to go to nearby. What are you talking about? Meh....they tried to export an Anchor Bar to the best location (for pub crawling) in Rochester and it died a bad death. -
If they had simply listened to Kelce, they would have been fine....

Well, the stadium is county owned on county land because that's who it came into existence decades ago. There's nothing preventing the county from selling the land to Pegula (which would be a great idea) for him to build his stadium. Also, nothing from Pegula from leasing the public land and building a private stadium. This isn';t uncommon. Land lease agreements are the norm elsewhere. So some in Congress are chasing to "attack" the NFL by putting forth a bill that really would not impact on how NFL stadiums are funded anyway. Why wouldn't the NFL ignore this posturing? They are already feeling actual heat for the things you are describing.

Spring must be coming--heralded by another CMC thread! -
we hear this same BS every time one of these bogus/doomed leagues relaunches: "the NFL will be adapting our cutting edge rules of play!" then they go belly up and the NFL yawns again...

If Kelly didn't care for Buffalo and took off as soon as the season ended, as do many if not most players, he still would have played as hard as he did and had the same success. His love for Buffalo isn't material to his play. He's not some Kicker.

Players would have shown up...agents were just crying. NFL just toying with the NFLPA....again, because it's so easy. -
who cares if a player "loves" the city they play in? Anyway... aren't many examples of a first round QB tanking his way off a team, let alone a future HOFer. Anderson reference was out of left filed..

No GM thinks this way. -

He's not exposed here. The owners paid for the lawyers to write the indemnification contract with Kroenke, not Goodell. In fact will decide if Kroenke is solely on the hook. If he does, Kroenke can take that to court and try to say the "costs', don't include "settlements".. This isn't Goodell's problem. It's Terry's/Jerry's/Bob's/Stan's...... -
No, the point was he didn't have much choice but to play in Buffalo. Playing poorly for 5 years was not a cogent option, doc.... Even if it made a tiny bit of sense, the thought that Kelly wouldn't want to be someday in the HOF is unimaginable, as is getting there with 5 bad seasons to start your career. Everything about this idea is absurd.
-
Anderson was a Kicker. So Kelley could have just tanked his way off the Bills (for 5 years!) and into a HOF career?

What?? Then fire him now. Or let him go work for the Steelers. -
He'll get paid on his next contract--maybe just about what Morse is getting....plus a 1st round pick. nh. yeah I don't see how this makes any sense either.
