WGR is a constant assault on intellectual honesty.

Kyle Williams Has a PCL Injury: Placed on IR
May Day 10 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is actually really good news -
Yup. They look good. The right players look good. Sam reinhart turning the corner is the beast thing that could have possibly come from the Florida trip...

there are certainly problems with our medical system and pharmaceuticals. I have witnessed too many people depend on medication for pain instead of dealing with problems the harder way (getting in shape). Tolerance leads to more pills, which leads to other prescriptions to counteract those and something else to counteract that.... In too many cases, IMO doctors are too quick to prescribe and too many people have addictive personalities and go down the vortex. When I had my ACL reconstructed, I remember having to consciously stop taking my prescription because I realized I didn't much have pain anymore and I just wanted the pill. Not everyone does that and with chronic pain... But the stance that we need to get rid of our doctors and protect our children from evil vaccines is foolish and not based on reality.

actually, Pittsburgh really didnt tank for Crosby. They were just really bad and in financial turmoil (in danger of relocation). The lockout year happened leading into the Crosby draft and they had a whole system of odds based on a 3 season average on a few factors. Buffalo had an equal shot at Crosby as Pittsburgh. Bad for a number of years, numerous high picks. Chicago just had awful ownership and stockpiled a lot of picks and hit on some.... also got very fortunate in the lottery to leapfrog Philly and get Kane while Philly got JVR. Now, the Penguins' tank for Lemieux is legendary and sets the standard. As far as Buffalo goes, look at it this way. We had to suffer through a lot of seasons of middling, trying to make the playoffs for the extra revenue, just trying to reach break-even. For years, assets were lost for nothing or limited returns. Draft position was always mid-draft... following the Hasek years of drafting pretty low. We havent had a superstar skater since LaFontaine, which was pretty fairly brief and injury-riddled. Mogilny's one crazy season too. Other superstar was Perreault. That is 45 years. The organization was completely stagnated by Regier, Ruff, and that group of players. They couldnt just remove one or the other. They tried to covet top free agents but they werent interested (Doan, Richards, Parise, Suter, etc). The entire thing needed to be blown out. That is what they did. Superstar 17-18 year olds were there, who could grow with the city and be captive until at least UFA status. Once the team gets good and word spreads that Buffalo is a good place, UFAs will sign and NTCs will be waived.

Bucky: Trading Cassel doesn’t look good right now
May Day 10 replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont know whats up with Cassel, but there was probably more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye. I wonder if they had kind of an agreement when he re-signed here that if there was an appealing spot for him and a trade was to be had then Whaley would do right by him? -
The NFL has changed so much--FIRE ROGER GOODELL
May Day 10 replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree that the patriots' "success" in no way passes the smell test, the nfl isn't going anywhere but up anytime soon. -
Can't fathom that eichel is going to get even better. He is going to be an all time great.

I would be completely fine with no replays in any sport. I love the variance of human error. I'd feel the same way if my teams get screwed and or my fantasy and gambling interests get screwed

I think the general thought is if the umpire didnt make the incorrect call, Utley could have in theory decided to go back and occupy second if he knew he was safe. He was called out so he went to the dugout.

Sean Payton Staying with the Saints
May Day 10 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
same here. Maybe I'm poisoned due to the Tannehill vs Buffalo sample space... but Tannehill to me isn't going to take off and get to the next level. Without that defense performing at a top-5 level... that team is a sitting duck on everyone's schedule. Not all that different than the Bills... but IMO T Mobile is still a bit of an unknown which gives him a higher ceiling, and we also have a lot of offensive weapons over Miami. -
they are privately owned. They do not franchise. Im not sure how it is now... but about 25 years ago some people I know wanted to open one on grand Island and the owners said no way. Mighty Taco's time to strike is in the past IMO. A lot of better options out there in big markets and MT has declined in quality in the past 20 years. Got the nostalgia/culture factor here in WNY... and we also had almost no tex-mex options forever.

Murder House had a great first 6 episodes or so, then petered out, and got outright stupid at the end. Asylum was my favorite. Beginning to end I thought it was outstanding. Coven was OK. I ended up losing interest about 2/3 of the way through though and never finished, and never watched the Freak Show one.

3-2, but still can't get optimistic
May Day 10 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No such thing as a bad win on the road on the nfl -
I think the fact it occurred in and decided a playoff game between the biggest 2 markets will trump the superstar factor
-
I agree. Don't really have a dog in the fight but this was an unfortunate and unfair thing to happen to the mets. I'm sure the rules will change this winter around breaking up a double play. I also agree that video review has no place in baseball

The rule apparently is on a blown call there that is overturned, the runner is awarded the base even if he didn't touch it. Imo that slide was way over the top and dirty.

Toronto an option for Kroenke if can't get Rams to L.A.
May Day 10 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would be fine. I believe i read it's more like 17%. A good number are likely from Southern Ontario like st catharines, welland, ft erie etc. Many canadians come for the atmosphere. I'm sure a toronto team would serve a different clientele. There is an insane number of people in southern ontario. I think the bills could continue to draw over 10k from there. You also would expect a toronto team to create more nfl interest across the border and possibly more ticket holders here. -

It's amazing the nfl has turned their players into some sort of stock exchange -

She is the 2nd... so it's quite a bit more work. My wife doesn't go to games. I go with a group of friends. I have been able to attend without missing much yet (bpo plays disney during the pAckers game was gutting). It is huge the inlaws are a couple miles away... I still intend on the full tailgate experience... but we'll see. Wife is cool with me keeping the fun things that make me me. -

Thanks! Still made the colts and pats game and will attend the Bengals game. My friend and I made some money on this game. That's great. Makes the decision to renew a slam dunk. That's the way ticket sales need to be in this market. That's why the bills were 'advertising' they were almost to capping sth all summer. You create the cap and s waiting line to get in the door... and suddenly you will have perpetual 98% renewals. It has worked with the sabres since 2007 despite not winning a playoff series and only making it twice. The tradeoff is you're going to have to deal with resellers -

I had a kid this week. Couldn't make it and sold the tickets. I guess I'll turn in my "fan card" -
We will see what happens when this team is pressing the cap and how assets are managed in transition. Thats a new ball of wax... But I would have to say that Whaley has done a superb job stocking this team. Nix primed the tank a bit, but Whaley has hit on a lot of great picks and moves. No matter what happens, I will always defend the Watkins deal as well. That other 1st round pick was at a position where there was no impact player to be had. Cameron Erving was taken by the Browns (a G). Whaley turned around and drafted Darby at #50 which more than makes up for it. No 1st round pick this year and he goes and gets 3 starters on a talented team. Are you kidding me? *Also acknowledge the entire NCAA scouting team under Whaley) Whaley has been able to find gems throughout the draft. Missed on a few trades, but sending low picks for known commodities that have upside and value like Bryce Brown and Cassel arent bad moves at all Preston Brown. Good god. I also really like the Charles Clay move. Have a TE like that is critical in the current NFL (the NFL that Greg Roman has brought us into). Watching him play, Clay is a freak. Also sniped him from a Division rival.
