  1. No doubt, I am sure its very frustrating to run all out, beat the coverage, and then not get the ball thrown your way. But, a guy making the money he was, you have to keep giving your all and be ready to make the plays when your number is called. And he was just a guy that seemed to drift if he wasn't getting the looks. I did like the Zay pick, but I remain a skeptic of his future here at this moment. Hopefully he can get better, but he just doesn't excel yet at anything and I agree with you that confidence is probably a big part of that. If we bring in 2 or 3 more WRs via FA and draft, then I think his roster spot is in jeopardy. Foster already passed him, Duke has the potential to pass him as well. Thats 3 guys already in the room plus potential 2 or 3 more via FA and Draft and its going to be a stiff competition as they likely only keep 5 of those guys plus one more ST/Gadget WR. So if I am Zay then I am paying close attention to how many WRs we bring in and what type they are.
  2. I agree with you...just said that is interesting thought. But not only will College Football have an insane amount of money to prevent that, the NFL will certainly back College ball too with all its resources. Like I said earlier, XFL should just fold now and save the money as they won't last again.
  3. Again this puzzles me. I don't follow how you think that team sucks, yet you also are upset and think it was a mistake to dismantle that same team to build a better foundation. And if that team was so bad, wouldn't that mean that it only helps McD look that much better that he somehow managed 9 wins and a playoff birth with it? I really don't get this, and I am one of Sammys fans. I mean we made playoffs right after trading him, so clearly it didn't hurt us. Personally, I would rather draft a rookie in first 2 rounds than pay either Tyrell or Sammy. But sign Humphries or Tate for the slot. BUT...no disrespect, but big deal about the 100 yard game in a playoff loss. Tons of people have had a good game here or there, doesn't make him worth $16m per year. Over the last 2 seasons in 2 of the most prolific offenses of this generation he has accomplished this: Rams: 15 games 39 Rec (2.6 rec per game), 593 yards (39.5 yds/g), 8 TD's Chiefs: 10 games 40 Rec (4 rec per game), 519 yards (51.9 yds/g), 3 TD's If you average those 25 games out, then use his per game average to project a full 16 game season (something he has accomplished only once in 5 years, his rookie year) this is what he is getting paid $16m for: 51 Receptions, 711 yards, 7 TD's over a 16 game season. I mean come on...you cant really think thats worth $16m per in any circumstance? Foster out performed him on a per game basis this year even. And Foster literally makes 1/30th the amount of money Sammy makes...ONE THIRTIETH...thats a crazy difference in money. Foster in the 7 games after being brought back from being cut put up: 25 rec, 511 yards, and 3 TD's (and did this with a rookie QB, a bad OL, no run game, and weak WR/TE's around him). Now lets take Fosters averages over the 7 games to see what he would have done over 10 to compare to Sammys 10 games. Sammy: 40 Rec, 519 yards (51.9 yds/g), 3 TD's Foster: 36 rec, 730 yards (73 yds/g), 4 TD's Sammy: (#4 pick in the draft in 2014) made $16 million and played in an offense where Mahomes threw for 5000 yards and 50 TDs. Foster: (an UDFA rookie) made $525,000 and out performed Sammy on a per game basis under substantially worse conditions. So I don't know anyone could say a sentence that has "I would rather pay Sammy $16M" in it. At some point, he needs to produce and he hasn't produced outside of a 9 game stretch in 2015...4 years ago.
  4. Thats interesting, although I am not sure they are going that route, but also I have not been following it as closely this second time around. In other words, instead of trying to go up against the NFL they go against College...hmmm. Although I would expect the NFL would side with College football and make this direction also a very difficult coup to pull off with the XFL.
  5. I don't disagree he was underused through bad coaching and bad QB's...however that doesn't validate all his own mental mistakes. And that was kind of my point. If Clay wasn't being a big part of the offense his focus would drop. If they weren't hitting him when the chances were there, he became less engaged and focused.
  6. Did the 2014 team make the playoffs? Nope. Also they didn't tear down the 2014 team, the tore down the 2016 team that won 7 games and had one of the worst defenses in the NFL and a marginal QB. Under Whaley and Rex, the team won less games every year after its mediocre 2014 season of 9 wins. Went on to win 8 then 7. So I am still failing to connect what you are upset about in terms of tearing down a team that had one mediocre 9 win season 3 years earlier. And that 2014 team was not remotely close to the same team McD inherited and really has no relevancy in regards to what we tore down. Different personnel all across the board. Also, Woods and Goodwin left on their own, and while Beane was employed by the Panthers, so also irrelevant to this past year. The only person they sent out was Sammy, who I wanted to keep, but now is a great move given his god awful contract compared to his production. In the two most explosive offenses (Rams and Chiefs) the NFL has seen since Mannings Broncos, he has yet to reach 1000 yards yet somehow is making $16m a year. And trading him netted us a good draft pick that helped reset our foundation and also a player that helped us break the 17 year drought in Gaines. 0% chance we pay Sammy what he got, so getting that 2nd and Gaines was a great move instead of losing Sammy for nothing. I get not having "rose" colored glasses, and thats a fair stance given this teams history. I just for the life of me cant believe you are upset we dismantled a crap team to try and build a better team. All good, just surprised to see you so bothered by that aspect.
  7. Funny you say that and also do not see the irony of it. So you are saying that McBeane has won the same while TEARING down the team as Whaley won with the team he built. During the tear down, McBeane has broken the 17 year playoff drought, and has the same record as the Whaley years when they were going all out to win now. So McBeane is winning the same with a lot less. You still somehow cant see the positive in that and just said to me it was "unnecessary" tear down. How is 7-9 and a 17 year drought an "unnecessary" tear down?
  8. Probably because thats how unmemorable and non involved most of Clays games are
  9. Agree but disagree. Cohen, Kamara, etc are the type of player we could use right now. Spiller proved to be a guy who couldn't carry any real load and had one great season based on creative use on a bad team. He was one guy I was way wrong about, I was fooled by the one season and thought he had a bright future.
  10. I have never seen a player have so many passes thrown his way where he is jogging or not looking for the ball. 3rd down and critical junction in the game, runs out to the sideline, Tyrod hits him in the back as he doesn't even turn to look for the ball...we lost the game. Touchdowns dropped (several times), key first downs dropped (several times), half a** routes when he isnt engaged in the game, etc etc. Ive been complaining about his lack of focus on a week to week basis for several years now. He is a guy who can be lethal when fully engaged, but if he isn't a focal point enough, he tends to lack the focus and commitment on an every down basis and makes a lot of mental errors. My biggest Clay complaint over the years has been this.
  11. Its fair to not be sold, they are still early in this process, so I get not believing they will successfully get there yet. HOWEVER: I think its 100% wrong to say it was an "unnecessary" tear down. This team was a mediocre roster at best when McD became coach. Tyrod was not going to get us any further than he already had, and I was one who felt TT was better than most people though around here. Mahomes was a polarizing prospect, and not even his most staunch supporters expected him to be as good as he was in his first year starting. McD took over a team that finished its previous season as tied for 3rd in total TD's (over the 15 weeks TT started, they sat him the final week) and was 27th in defense in the 15 games outside the Pats fluke shutout week 4 (was an anomaly that skewed season stats as Pats shut out had no Brady, no Jimmy, no Gronk, and Jacoby making his second start with a hurt throwing hand). Pats would hang over 30 on us a handful of weeks later with Brady back. Trading down in what was viewed as a risky QB class and picking up extra first round pick and what became an Elite CB was not so bad at the moment it happened. And lets again keep in mind, even if someone wants to say McD ran the draft, he still made decisions based on the scouting work Whaley and HIS team did, not McD and Beanes current team. Its WAY too early to talk LVE vs Edmunds. Different systems, different teams...both had good rookie years, but doesn't mean they are the same fit in every team. Edmunds may very well prove to be the better player, or even the better player for this team and McD. He isnt even 21 yet and really had a good rookie season that got better over the season. So I get you are not sold, and thats fair. But you are also seem intent on twisting everything into a negative until they prove it completely wrong.
  12. Charles Clay - Lots of talent, lacks the mental game and passion. I think age and injuries have factored into that, but when it comes to the pass game, if he isnt heavily involved he isnt mentally in the game and makes a lot mistakes. At this stage in his career, he can still be a mediocre to solid player, especially since he is still a good blocker. Good luck, but it was time for a change here in Buffalo and for him. I won't miss his inconsistent routes, dropped TD's, dropped passes, or watching passes bounce off his back or head because he isnt even looking for the ball.
  13. No doubt Brown is a monster right now, but I have been critical of Tomlin for years. Not impressed and I think he is over rated and would struggle to succeed without the insanely talented overall roster he has been blessed with through being employed by an excellent organization. And again, both past and current players have been critical on how Tomlin handles these situations internally. He let a lot of things slide, and then goes on to steam roll and become a massive problem like now, he gets to own his role in this and not just blame the players. And again, we greatly disagree on McD still. Some of you have a hard time separating "building" and "fielding" when it comes to whats on the field. He didn't build our offense, he inherited a mediocre offense that was led by a QB who was not going to take us much further. And McD is not the GM, Whaley and Beane are the GM's. Yes McD is certainly involved like all HC's, but they had to rebuild and it took taking a step back to do so, like all rebuilds do, hence the word "rebuild" which by definition requires something to be taken apart before it can be built again. So to say he put together two of the worst offenses is pretty shallow way of looking at it. He fielded the team he mostly inherited his first year, they tore a lot of things down and took on dead cap money to get a massive amount of cap room this year, and poised to have $123m in cap space next year (most in the league, but of course that will be affected by all teams FA spending this year) to actually start building up the offense. To be honest, I really don't understand how you are so negative on the path to this point, you are a good poster so it throws me back you are so upset with this course of action that clearly worked. They tore down, reset the foundation on both sides of the ball with Allen and Edmunds, and now will start building the structure on top of it with both the budget and draft picks to do so. These were ALL good things for the future of the Bills and a lot to look forward to moving forward.
  14. Beat me to it. Without question Peyton Hills is the poster child for this discussion. Notable mentions for one year wonders I can think of: RB - Bobby Humphrey QB - Don Majkowski QB - RG3 RB - Ickey Woods QB - Our own Derek Anderson (Browns) TE - Gary Barnridge RB - Trent Richardson RB - CJ Spiller Browns seem to be the home of one hit wonders lol
  15. So considering I said all this were the reasons I am souring on Brown, not sure what you are trying to say to me as we seem to agree on the issue with Brown. However, I disagree on Tomlin and greatly disagree about what you said about McD and having a player quit at halftime. First, Tomlin to me is a bit over rated. His makes so many poor choices in games that it baffles me he doesn't get more flack. And since he has been HC (2007), his rosters have been one of the most talented overall during that span, yet he has never gotten to the SB but one the time in 2009. Most importantly, both current and past Steeler players have voiced issues with how he handles the locker, to say its 100% the fault of those 3 players and assign no responsibility to the coach for letting those 3 players be that way is baffling to me. Its not like AB, Bell and Big Ben are the first players to ever have big egos or personalities to manage. So to act like Tomlin has no responsibility in this situation makes no sense. Second, and the thing I massively disagree with is this comment about a player retiring at halftime as if that is somehow a reflection on McD and how he runs his locker room and team. The actions of one man, who just lost his will to play...to play a game where its unforgiving physically and needs 100% commitment to lay your health and future on the line...quits on a team, doesn't mean McD runs a bad locker room. Is Andy Reid running a bad locker room because Hunt went out and did something stupid? Vontae Davis...who had no history with this team, staff, or players...went from being a premiere player in this league to getting utterly scorched every time out on the field, even in preseason. It was so bad, he almost didn't make the roster and was even a healthy scratch at one point. Between how he felt about his body and the embarrassment of not being able to play well anymore, he made a decision to quit. This team went on to rally the very next week where the D came together and we went in and did what everyone said was impossible and beat the Vikings decisively on the road. That was a huge testament to McD and how he runs his locker room and how the players respond to him. So sorry, no disrespect but I cant not possibly disagree with you more about this over exaggerated Davis retiring thing. McD has coached his tail off here and took a defense after that point and let it being the #2 unit in the league DESPITE all the offensive struggles with a rookie QB, 4 starting QBs due to injury, etc.
  16. Yeah thats why I put the disclaimer up hahaha. Its easy to not want him seeing all this stuff, its a whole other ball of wax to wake up one day and see a new Ferrari to drive for 3 years in the driveway. Another example: I would rather draft a RB than go get Bell...money wise, its too much to that position IMO. But if he WAS actually a Bill, I would switch from too much money mindset to super excited to see him on the field.
  17. I have been on the side that felt AB is worth getting, even though I did not expect us to. I felt like McD is a strong coach and could manage his locker room compared to Tomlin who I think is overrated and done a poor job in the locker room. HOWEVER: AB keeps hurting his case more and more each day. My opinion is now being swayed away from liking the idea of him coming here (even though I never really thought he would anyway). His team around him is failing him poorly by not finding a way to keep this dude out of the media, some anonymous GM's have reportedly already said this stuff has changed their interest in him. I would be open to a trade for Julio, Green, or OBJ...but my preference is to stay young and drama free and go sign Humphries to lock down that Kupp/Edelman slot weapon for Josh (He is a definite upgrade to Zay IMO at that), then draft Metcalf or someone early, and then steal Marquise Brown in the 3rd after his injury. Sorry AB, been a big fan, but you have even lost my enthusiasm for you with your idiotic antics on social and the off field issues that have to come to light. Bye Felicia DISCLAIMER: I reserver the right to be excited if the best WR in football defies the odds and is traded to the Bills just on sheer fact I have a man crush on Allen and will be thrilled to see him have an Elite weapon now. Until then, I reserve the right to say FU AB, you aren't worth the headache because you are too stupid to keep your mouth shut and your nose clean.
  18. If I was the XFL I would just fold now and save the money. McMahon and his ego will never do that, but this is a terrible move to launch next year after the AAF has gotten a season under their belt. Their ONLY shot was to get out before AAF and put out a great product when they did. Instead, AAF has launched first with both a great product so far, but also the support of the NFL. The XFL has been playing the heel role against the NFL, and betting on this notion that enough people are tired of the NFL that it will work which is a stupid approach and will certainly fail. The NFL is massive, and for all the pissing and moaning about it, the ratings keep going up and its NEVER going away in our life time. To take them on head on is a losing battle, and the AAF was smart and built itself with a strong tie to the NFL. This gives it the best chance at success, and the XFL now is going to have even lesser players than the AAF degrading the football even more. RIP XFL...again.
  19. Tom Dundon put the money up, majority owner of Carolina Hurricanes. And he is now expected to take over as Chairman of the AAF. So sounds like he said the same WTF thing and was like if I put this money up to save all our behinds, then I am gonna run this ship from here on out to make sure it doesn't happen again. But none of this is to be unexpected. Most start up leagues fail for this reason, operating capital is expensive after massive expenses to set the league up and revenues are slow to ramp up. So a lot of teams tend to be underfunded hoping to last to profitability. But the reality is that it generally takes 5 years to get there even though they like to believe it can be done in 2. And more and more money is needed along the way and the league will have annual "cash calls" that all teams are required to pay into the league to keep the league viable until profitable. Teams often capitalize for what they feel will be full operations for first 2 to 3 seasons, then find them selves over stretched when they realize how expensive it is to actually run said team. Ive been involved in 2 start up professional leagues in the US, one of which is playing now. Seen all this happen before, even to MLS, and its pretty much par for the course. Actually that is not true. Soccer is a lot bigger right now than start up football and a LOT more profitable. Rugby is the 2nd largest sport in the world behind only soccer, so combine the 40 million US fans that already exist with Rugby and international demand for the US sport, and you are again grossly underestimating the draw of professional Rugby and its potential revenue. Its easy to say things based on opinions you have of the sport, its another thing to actually know the facts. Soccer is so valuable right now that if you want to do an expansion team, the league Fee last year was $140M alone just to for the team before you spend $1 building the team and the average team is worth more than the $250M they just raised to save AAF. So no disrespect, but your assumptions are off.
  20. 21. You don't know if its a revenue TV deal though, and its almost certainly not. Early deals on new properties generally make 0 revenue on the TV contract and have to pay for production costs out of pocket on non feature games too. Major League Soccer for instance did not have a revenue generating TV deal when it launched and they almost folded because of financial issues before they finally stabilized. I seriously doubt the AAF is making money on its broadcasting rights currently. Likely a 1 year broadcast deal with a 2nd year option much like Major League Rugby did last year with CBS Sports, ESPN+ and ATT streaming. Network likely covers production costs on its feature game of the week and playoff games (to insure it hits a certain standard), then the home team pays for production costs of all other games each week. If ratings are strong enough after first season AAF will be in position to opt out after one year and negotiate with other networks or renegotiate with its current ones. And if ratings are not strong enough to warrant a rev generating deal, they opt in and still have the league on television which is critical. Not to mention, tickets sales and merchandise sales are minute amounts of revenue compared to expenses at this stage. And there are a LOT of expenses you are not accounting for. And most importantly, a LOT of money was already spent to get to this point for all teams, but you are lumping it all in as if its current expenses are the only ones that hit the budgets. Not to mention, they clearly needed the $250M and went out and got it, so not sure on what grounds you think it doesn't work if it is what was needed. And they are not going to go get money they need for the one week, they are going to get enough to stabilize for the season.
  22. Wow, the AAF has had a successful launch, yet they just faced a major financial crisis that needed a $250 million dollar investment to just make payroll. I do think this league will be successful, but just goes to show just how immense it is to both start a new league and then operate it. Another reason why I think XFL will fail after one season again. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2821459-report-aaf-needed-250-million-emergency-investment-to-be-able-to-make-payroll
  23. And that’s all he did, Jab back playfully. He’s not on some national tour campaigning he doesn’t suck. He made a playful jab after the season was over, a season where he both beat Jalen and his team and also finished the season strong. So I get what you are saying, and agree with you, but in this case I don’t think it’s anything other than a little fun and nothing to make a big deal out of.
  24. What do we think about what? I really don't understand what you are trying to say here. Are you suggesting NFL players are gonna wake up and decide to forego large multi million dollar contracts, $20m, $50m, $100m contracts just to make $250,000 over 3 years to play a more violent version of football in the AAF? Never going to happen. The only people who will ever play in the AAF are guys who don't have an NFL job. Any NFL players on strike will remain on strike and enjoy the time off, not risk injury playing a season in the AAF for less than they make for one game in the NFL.
  25. Doesn't matter in this case though given Allen already beat the Jags and Ramsey. So he has some room to talk. Now if they had never played the Jags, it would be premature. But considering we beat them and Allen was over 85% of our entire offense when we did, I think he has a little jab room here.
