I prefer to stay 4-3 but if we are going 3-4 then I think we need to do some FA shopping/trading for a true NT. That Sioli guy from Miami Chan raved about and he did handle Wood in our matchup. But the Ferguson guy he replaced or Shawn Rodgers should be available. Abrau Franklin was tagged last year too. Im sure there are other guys I dont know about too. Come on Buddy drink a rebd bull and dont sleep through free agency please

Two possible picks playing tonight
High Mark replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I used to like the idea of Miller but after watching him extensively I am running away. He looked horribly Maybin-esq last night. He was small and didnt use his hands worth a damn. he techinique was pretty horric IMO, turning his back to the blocker as he got steamrolled out of the hole. This guy is a huge liabilty vrs the run and I dont think he will be much of a pass rusher. He didnt give any effort on his backside pursuit either. He now gets a big NO from me. I think Miller projects to weakside in a 4-3 scheme. His best asset seems to be speed/quickness and I think the only way to make use of him is to keep blockers off him. He has a lot of Maybin in him. Peterson looked like total crap to me. He was giving enourmous cushins and was being owned by that mysterious #8. When a guy you have never heard of is tourching the best DB its not a good sign. They were specifically targeting that matchup. He looks more like a safety to me, and I had to ask myself "Would anyone even be talking about this guy if he didnt return kicks?" I think he made a name for himself returning the ball and people now assume he is a better CB than he really is. I think that happened to McKelvin too. Yep - he would be the dumbest draft pick we could have. -
How are people arguing this? It clearly works. TE is a much more effective position than WR and RB. Maybe not to acrue stats but to acrue wins. Every playoff team this year has a top TE, every stinking one. Not every team has a top QB but thats becasue there isnt a top QB in the NFC West and one of their teams has to get in. When a OL can open up truck lanes any ole bum could play RB and get 4 yards a carry just as long as he doesnt fumble. When that same OL gives brady enough time to shave his nuts before throwing the ball any scrap WR can get open - remember DBs arent allowed to breathe on WRs anymore. Every year we draft more crappy Rbs WRs, and DBs is another year wasted. PS I watched the cotton bowl alst night and if that Patrick Peterson is half as good as they are making him out to be that we should draft that WR #8 from A&M because he was straight owning Peterson (who looked like garbage) **Im just making a point, we should not draft a WR.

Truth about Fitz comp % and his accuracy
High Mark replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My guess is Fitzs also leads the NFL in missing WRs of curls and come back routes by 3+ yards. -
Carolina did it in 2009, SF had their 1st in 2010. We turned down the same offer to take Byrd. NE did it last year with their 3rd and has Car 2nd this year. Its been quasi-agreed upon I guess that a 2nd in the current year is worth a 1 in the following year and so on.
-
Im not really suprised. A)he is from and already lives in that area B)Harbaugh knows the importantce of good Olman, and with Iupati and (i guess) A. Davis (could be good or moved to G?) and Staley he has a lot of pieces in place. C) He understands TE is one of the most important positions on the team and already has a great one. D) the rest of his team is already pretty darned talented E) High pick could be used on a QB
-
In 2009 the Patriots picks were traded or the patriots selected a player with a pick they didn’t naturally obtain, 9 times in the first 3 rounds. They only selected 1 player with their naturally obtained pick. In 2010 their picks were traded 10 times and NE did not draft a single player with a pick they naturally obtained. That’s 19 trades and 1 true pick in the first 3 rounds. So yes, they literally trade every pick they have.
-
Your strategy might make us better in 2011, but what about 2012? 2013? Or 2020? I think giving up 1 pick in this draft is a small price to pay. Literally -- actually; without exaggeration or inaccuracy: The city was literally destroyed. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/literally Yes. The only one even remotely worth #3 is Newton and that’s only if he is a football genius which I don’t believe he is. I wont be sitting down with him in a film room between now and April like Gailey/Nix are going to tho. And IF he is that he is headed to Carolina. What I do know is Mallet and Locker stink, and that Blaine Gabberts only touter is McShay which doesn’t bode well for him. Well not with that attitude we’re not! Like I said the only way to routinely compete for championships is with elite level QB play and I want championships!!! We don’t have to lose every game there are other avenues to take.
-
Ok, everyone know that we need DL, OL, and LB help. I think everyone can also admit that the key to routinely competing for/winning championships is elite level QB play. Most people also seem to admit that Fitz is not on that elite level. So I propose the obvious GOALS that the Bills should have in this years draft – trade back for picks in the 2012 draft. Obviously you need a rtade partner but if you saw the Tebow documentary then you prob noticed its a lot easier to find a partner than we think. Also the Pats trade literally every pick they have every year so its definitely doable. http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php Using the draft value trade chart above…. #3 overall – If the Bills wanted to trade back in the 1st round and pick up an additional 2012 1st , we could afford to give the team we trade with a *discount* between 720 and 300 points – which is equivalent to the 25th pick in the 1st through the 28th pick in the 2nd round, while maintaining a pick in the 8-15 range. If we traded to the 10th pick that is equivalent to the 16th pick in the 2nd for example. Needless to say that per the chart, any team we trade with is getting a good deal and we are essentially getting a *free* 2012 first rounder. We should be able to do this with with some studs like AJ Green/Paterson/Newton /Dareus falling to our pick and us willing and eager to move out. With a pick in the 8-15 range, we will easily have a chance at 1 of Quinn/Von Miller/Carimi who all fill a huge need and a good value. Everyone’s goal is to get a good player at a position of need and good value – right? If we cant get a good player we could again trade back for additional picks once again. In the second we should also be able to trade that pick for a 2012 1st. With the 2nd round being the following day, this will give us a lot of time to speak with potential trade partners. This is a move I can see NE doing too. Some player will fall to the 2nd and some team will like said player. If we can trade our 2nd this year for a 2012 1st, and add a late round pick in the process I think it’s a no brainer. This draft is not very deep and if we cant get a higher pick in next years draft it will benefit us more in the long term – what 2nd rounder is going to make an impact for us immediately anyways? That would give us 3 picks in the 1st round next year, one of which we got for *free* With those three picks we should be able to maneuver for Luck. We will likely be in the top 10 anyways so its not a long way to go. You may think that’s a lot to give up but we really are only *losing* our 2nd rounder from this year as the one 1st we got for free and our natural #1 should be seen as taking Luck anyways. There is the chance that we cant trade for him and in that event, o well because we have 3 first rounder’s in what is likely a stronger draft than this year’s anyway. I don’t see us routinely competing in our division without an elite level QB and this is my best idea as to land one while picking up another good player in the process.

College Games This Weekend
High Mark replied to AReed Deep For 7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The ones worth noting at The CB/KR man Peterson #7 from LSU tonight on Fox – pm I think. He is the concensou top CB from what I have heard and likely the Bills pick if they stick with their skill position that can also return kicks draft strategy. LSU is loaded with talent including some late round OL and DL prospects and I would bet a LB too although Im not sure. On A&M Von Miller is a good OLB prospect #40. He is fun to watch and a real gamer. On Sunday BC plays Nevada. The BC LT is one of the top rated ones but really not too good – it’s a weak tackle class. Nevada has a 4.3 40 DE guy who plays DL I think #55 but Im not sure. He honestly reminds me of Maybin though as he is fast…… and that’s it, not really impressive. Welcome to the college game its way more entertaining than the NFL. No comparison really. -
Stats are misleading in nature and you are being mislead.

This Harbaugh Guy REALLY Thinks He Is The Man
High Mark replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look at every single coaching fire/non-rehire that happened this year. How many of those teams had a good QB? NONE!!!! I guess you could argue Denver but they drafted Tebow so that’s a bit wacky as McDanials guy wasn’t in yet. Sporana has done great in Miami, its not his fault Parcells didn’t take M Ryan. Cable did great in Oakland with 3 backups playing merry-go-round. Mangini’s best QB was a 3rd round rookie, and his team smashed through the Pats. Singletary was a game or two away from winning their division and got fired for not having a QB. Give those 4 guys a good QB and they make the playoffs or are damn close. If Harbaugh is going to bet his entire coaching future on his next move why shouldn’t he want a QB. QB > the other 21 positions combined and the HC -
well worth the watch if they re-run it. I think he said Denver was the clear favorite to draft him and Buffalo was second, which turned out to be right. FWIW the Pats* were also highlighted. I thought the most interesting thing was the trade talk. He said that Denver had contacted every team picking from 22-28 discussing trade up possibilities the week before the draft. He also said that Denvers plan was to trade back from 11 and/or up from their 2nd rounder for Tebow - and both cases ended up happening. That makes me think teams know what is gonna be available way before the actualy day of. If Nix has a plan to trade back then it CAN be done. Please no more of this "but you need a trade partner" BS. The Pats do it every year and Denver did exactly what they wanted.

the only idiots are the ones that watch harbaughs teams and dont see how great of a coach he is. The Blls woulda been smart (I know funny right) to do whatever it took to get him here last year.

Luck will not declare for the draft. Breaking news...
High Mark replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills new strategy should not to be tank next season (although they really won’t have to try to tank it lol), but use this draft to position themselves for next draft. Bowers/Fairly now look like 1-2 locks, so we can stop dreaming of them. Trade back in the 1st, add another 2nd this year and next, then get Quinn/Dareus/Carimi. Trade a 2011 2nd for a 2012 first. Position yourself to have 5 picks in the first 50 of the 2012 draft and go after him then. Please don’t try and tell me a QB like that isn’t worth it because it has been proven time and time again that they are (I’m not saying you need to use all 5 to trade). If you are thinking long term that’s the best course of action. Im not sure about 2012 but 2011 is not a deep draft with just a few elite prospects, so trading picks for next years picks wont kill us. PS he could still change his mind if/when Harbaugh leaves. When is the deadline anyways? -
Bud Adams says Vince Young will not be on the team next year
High Mark replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1- I wasn’t blaming fitz directly, we were talking about teams that won with who their QB was. 2- I most certainly can blame fitz because he threw a terrible pass that resulted in Polomalus pick, which was Fitz’s fault whether you are willing to admit it or not. Also he was the QB in charge of an offense that put up 16 points. 3- Who cares who could've won here, Fitz didnt and I dont think he can. -
I know there are a lot of ??? with the CBA looming but I was thinking about all the talented players itching to hit the FA market and I could help but think what kind of contracts these players would be getter. I assume the contract dollar amounts would continue to climb but at the same time it wouldn’t surprise me if the salary cap dropped from 2009 or stayed the same as the Owner want to keep more of the leagues profits. If that happened then I guess it would force teams to stop raising players contracts but I figured that wouldn’t happen. George Wilson signed a 1.8 mil tender to be a back up. I figure the Bills could resign him for 3 yrs 7 million and he could replace Whitner – which is better than 7 per for lil Donte Florence signed a 2 yr 6.6 mil contract that is expiring soon. I figure we could keep his #s the same and sign him to a 3 yr 10 mil contract Poz could get a deal similar to Desmon Bishop just got, 4 yr 21 mil. If he doesn’t like that then let him walk, the two previous I would fork out a little more to keep them but not Poz. Free Agents Mankins is going to be the highest paid G in the league. Jahri Evans currently holds that title at 7 years, 56.7 mil. Mankins gets 7 years at 57 mil. David Harris will get a deal that exceeds Dansby’s. 5 yrs 45 mil. The top FA TEs will likely get 6 mil a season plus, but a guy like Z Miller or K Boss is more likely to get 5 yrs, 28 mil. Michael Bush is a quality RB I would like to see brought in. LT and Thomas Jones signed 2 year, 5 mil deals. Benson just signed a 2 year 7 Mil deal. I think Bush could be had for 4 yrs, 14 Mil (FJ as a restricted FA signed a 4 year 7.5 mil deal) If you assume all these players max out their contracts (very unlikely) and average all those contracts out per year it is 37.15 mil per season which sounds like a crap ton. But if you figure those players could start at 7 of 22 positions, and that the 2009 salary cap was 128 mil, then its not too much really. 7/22 = 31.8% of the starters while 37.15/128 = 29% of the cap. When we have no real talent of our own to sign to big time deals and most of our real players are on 500k or less contracts. Considering Maybin, Whitener, and McCargo should be gone soon, and we could cut Kelsay, that frees up a lot of cash. We could realistically sign all of those players this offseason and be fine in terms of the cap * if there is one.
-
No, but Harris and Mankins on the right side surely would Pony up Ralph!
-
We pretty much know that the Bills wont be adding anyone in FA, but that doesn’t mean we cant get better. I am talking about “Addition by Subtraction” The Bills FO needs to hurry up and cut some dead weight BEFORE a new CBA is agreed upon. There are currently no cap penalties for cutting you dead weight players (because there is no cap), when in years past that has been. Stroud, Kelsay, Maybin, McCargo, maybe even Evans (am I missing anyone?)…. They all need to be cut before us releasing them affects our cap space again. Then, freeing up all that coin would actually allow us to spend some in FA and not affect Ralphs pockets, essentially “trading” the current group of bums for someone else’s bums! Wake up Buddy wake up!!!

some very interestingo 2010 stats here (via the links)
High Mark replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok so we need to: Improve the DL win an absolute manimal. Fairly or Bowers. Bowers has already declared and I fully expect Fairly to after the bowl game. If Luck comes out then that locks us in for a chance at one of those three. Buddy, don’t you dare F it up Beat Ralph Wilson and lock him in a broom closet if you have to, but do not take a WR or CB. Improve the DL some more. Improve the OL. Improve the LBs Improve every other position too. -

This. You could have posted this thread back in 2008 with the name “Ryan Fitzpatrick” in the title and gotten the same responses. The TRUTH of the matter is that VY is an incredibly talented athlete, was never wanted by Fisher, effectively ran out of town by Fisher, and starting to come on as a passer (his last two seasons of play were light years ahead of any other as a passer). He also adds the ability to run which slows down the pass rush (aka helping his OL- that would be nice here) and slows down the backside pursuit (a big reason why CJ got to 2000 yards). he has a lot more affect on the game than just his passing #s - see the ecord I quoted above. Its pretty clear that this kid needs a fresh start in a new area with little pressure to exceed - see Michael vick please. That could easily be Buffalo. Look what Gailey did with Fitz, why couldn’t he do that with a better athlete? Fitz didn’t turn into some super-quick decision maker until after Gailey you know. Gailey could have the same influence on Young. Maybe he is just too dumb or not motivated enough, but even if he doesnt improve he is better than Brohm and Brown as backups – which makes him a player that makes this team better. Someone please point out ANY risk in doing this as I am not seeing one. -
Pocket Passer vs. Athletic Scramblers
High Mark replied to WVUFootball29's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I do think Cam Newton could become a big scrambler like Ben R, the only true college runner to ever truely succeed in the NFL is Steve Young. So odds are against him. It also seems that this thread ahs concluded - do not draft Mallet. PS pick up VY. -
