  1. I had/have a lot of reservations about him. Not athletically by any means, but mentally. The key to QB is his mental ability. Im not sure if Newton has the mental capacity for the NFL after playing only 1 season of big time ball. I will leave it to the coaches and GMs who have their personal meetings with the kid to figure out if he has the intelligence or not. But, on my drive to work this morning, Gene Chizick was on EPSN and came right out and said he is extremely intelligent and understands defenses advanced coverage’s and protections etc. I put a lot of stock in college coaches every year, and if he says Newton has it mentally, then I think he does. I am now much more open to the idea of drafting him after hearing his coach talk about his intelligence and competitive drive.
  2. We haven’t played a 34 since week 4 or 5. IMO he is a fit at 34 end not NT anwyays. Either way we seemed to be employing more of a 1 gap 34 when we were using it, which allows KW to get up field more. Bottom line is real players can play anywhere, and KW is a real player (unlike many on the team)
  3. I dont see how the Bengals can be held responsible if they outsourced the beer serving to Aramark. Its not like the security could have booted them before the fell on her, only after. I bet the suit vrs the team is dismissed.
  4. the other DL for Iowa is good too. 49, his name has slipped me right now
  5. 4 the Bills as a whole are below average and just below adequate. KW is a 10 and everyone else is a couple notches closer to 4.
  6. I assume it is a given that whoever is coaching in Denver next season will take the job with the understanding Tebow is the QB so you better like it. That makes me think only a coach who liked Tebow before would take the job. If I am wrong, then Tebow may be on the block - I think Gailey would be interested. Intriguing.
  7. TE is one of the most important positions in the NFL. Behind QB and LT its 3rd most important on the O as far as I am concerned. There are so many stud TEs whose deals are expiring, I think we have to add one, and I preffer the best run blcoker. I also think Mankins would be ideal for our interior and building an awesome running game. Give me those two signings and maybe a LB and thats cloud nine.
  8. Only name players go to the PB, and KW is not. He will likely get in once the coaches fill the roster with alternates. The coaches know who is good.
  9. Are you serious? You dont get the point. Every single HOF player, could have been drafted by a top 3 pick. Every stinking one in the history of the draft. Every player that just made this years pro bowl could have been drafted in the top 3 too. Whether the teams drafting in the top 3 were smart enough to draft them is another story, but do not confuse opportunity with execution. I cant control who the Bills pick, but I want them to have the best ***opportunity*** to draft that HOFer, and drafting in the top 3 gives them a better chance to WIN than drafting 8. That, is a fact.
  10. Actually, our O being “that much better” than our D is kind of an illusion. In terms of yardage gained/allowed, our O and D both rank 24th in the league in yards gained/allowed per game. I am not sure about points, which to me is the real determining factor, but there is something to say about that. Our OL is just as bad as our DL, and our DL has the advantage of having two rookies waiting in the wings. Our RB position is fairly weak at the moment if you figure FJ is on the wrong side of 30 and Spiller has looked like poop this season. We have nothing at TE. We cannot go wrong with OL/DL/LB/QB/TE in this draft as long as they are good. This years 1st rounder is defacto DL or LB bc there is no OL/TE talent in this draft remotely close to being worth the top 8 pick we will have, Luck is out of the question without a major trade up, and that’s assuming he declares. This draft is abound with top DL and LB talent however and we *should* be able to land a 2-3 players at those positions in the first 3 rounds who contribute *too bad our scouts suck and wont draft good players.
  11. I was talking about him being slow mentally. He seems to freeze up and not be able to make decisions. When a blitzer comes screaming towards him he doesn’t jump to his hot route he just stands there with blank body language. That’s what I meant when he reacts and doesn’t anticipate. A great QB will anticipate a hole in the coverage and throws the ball before the hole exists. A great QB will see the blitzer coming before he actually starts his blitz and is already exploiting it. (A good example is that clip from last night they showed many times of Brees telling Bush exactly where the Blitz was coming from so Bush could pick it up) That’s what makes Brees/Brady/Manning great. Heck that’s why Fitz has played as well as he has this year (notice our much improved pass protection and blitz pick ups? – just like Brees/Bush). But 90% of QBs react, aka they see the hole in the D then throw it, or see the blitzer coming then try to exploit it – but many times its too late. Gabbert seems to be one of the slower ”reactors” I have seen this year, slower than Mallet and Locker. I was not impressed. I am really looking forward to tonight’s game v Iowa and will be giving him, and all the other guys I have watched this year, another chance to win me over, but I simply don’t think he is quick enough in the head to succeed in the NFL. You are thinking too black and white PTR. Its not just how they produce but how they look doing it. Fitz throwing wildly inaccurate passes one third of the time and throwing very costly, poorly timed INTs that cost us games don’t bode well for him. Meanwhile, Bradford brought his team from behind to win a lot of games, not lose them. Bradford also made throws that Fitz simply couldn’t make because he doesn’t have the physical ability. Fitz played a tough schedule but beat maybe 1 good team – just like Bradford as you pointed out. Bradford is a rookie with loads of potential and Fitz is a 5 year vet who has maxed out his physical ability IMO. When all you look at is stats you will be fooled by their misleading nature.
  12. Not so much in a 34 (I would assume) but in a 4-3, if a LB takes on a blocker, he isn’t expected to make the tackle. That’s why Moats has been so great against the run this year, and guys like Keith Ellison have sucked so badly in the past. Moats sets the edge of the defense extremely well. He gets up field, takes on the TE or FB, and contains the RB and forces him back inside. He stays in position to chase down any runner who does choose to go wide and can make that play too. Ellison would get sealed and blocked with outside leverage (Kelsay is also extremely guilty of this from his weakside end position) which allows the RB to just dart toward the sideline while the not-so-fast Poz fails to chase him down and the other team gets a big gain. Fans then scream “Man Poz sucks he is slow and white” when they should be screaming “F my life I cant believe Keith Ellison/Kelsay are still on the field, they cannot take on a block to save their life and are crewing the rest of our defense.” Poz when he does take on blocks seems to get blown up and not hold his ground. Faceing contact as never been one of his strengths. That’s why I think they moved him to a weak side role this year. If our base D is going to be a 34 I don’t know how good a player he will be having to take on OGs on most snaps, but as a 4-3 player he is far from a weak link. That said he has been asked to be our top LB and play in all situations – when on a really good team he would likely be a 2 down LBer.
  13. Blaine gabbert the Mizzou QB right? He is a jr I believe, btu consider me very underwhelmed by him this year. Typlical 6-6, 245lber who looks the part but doenst have it mentally. He reacted, never anticipated, and seems slow. Thumbs down.
  14. If anyone actually watched that game on Sunday - you could not deny what he did to win that game. #s dont quantify how good he played in that second half. He displayed athleticism which was un-matched even in the NFL. Its cliche but he literally took over the game - at least for the Denver O. Without him in there Denver loses that game big. Not bad for a "running QB who cant take a snap from under center". People need to be open to the idea that he may actually be good. PS: Since the Bills cant draft and havent drafted a good player in a decade, and I expect that trend to continue for a while, and because they dont make Wood or Willaims jerseys (aka the chinese ones for 45 bucks) I am thinking of buying this http://www.nflminnesotavikings.com/images/tim-tebow-jersey-denver-broncos-15-qb-blue-423-0.jpg
  15. You ARE cheering for your team. You are cheering for them to improve for future years - something any smart investor would do. If you were on your death bed maybe watching your last Bills game thats one thing, but if you will be around for next season and many after, a lose is better for the Bills moving forward.
  16. Then you just havent watched him enough then. He does it with great frequency. His receiver don’t always make the play though (many times they do) but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t made the throw.
  17. Bradford... Duh! PS if Luck come sout he absolutely is the instant great QB. Locker stinks terribly though. So does Mallet just not as much. Newton is too risky for my blood and I would rather see some definites in this draft.
  18. Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things - blocking and tackling. - Vince Lombardi Now I would be the first to admit that since it is no longer the 1960s you could add a third thing, - superstar QB - to that quote. But its pretty obvious what he is saying. The core of the team is the offensive and defensive lines and linebackers. Hmmm, isnt it strange that the Bills stink and their weakest areas are OL, DL, and LB (followed closely by QB IMO) Isnt it also weird that the teams that consistently win in this league, like the Pats*, Steelers, Ravens, Giants, etc always are strong in these key areas? What a coincidence!?!?!?! Note to the Bills Front Office The key is not RBs, DBs, or WRs. Please change you asinine ways this coming offseason. Regards, Bills fans everywhere.
  19. Big Cat, Matt Ryan was only a full-time starter for 2 years (just like Luck) so I was surprised when you said he had played in 40 some odd games. So I checked and ESPN.com has him at 31 games playing in getting 6 in his Soph year and 2 in his frosh year. Luck will have only played 21 when this year is done. Ryan seems to have played an extra years worth of games and spent another year playing college ball than Luck if he comes out early – but that’s essentially what every player who declares early does. That said, I still see Luck the same way I saw Ryan. Their teams, minus them, would have ZERO business being ranked – let alone in the top 5 - without them. The Pac-10 has better competition than the Big East. Physically, mentally, they both have exactly what you look for – and Luck has a strong arm too. No one was a bigger advocate of Matt Ryan when he came out and no one is a bigger advocate of Luck than me. You have your opinion but I think Luck is the real deal. I am not and was never affected by the hype because quite honestly, I AM the hype – having touted Luck since Nov of 2009. I hope he stays in school now bc we wont have a chance to draft him and he is the Bills (and everyone elses) best chance to get that Manning/Brady/Rogers/RYAN type guy.
  20. Create a hole? The hole will be FILLED when Whitner leaves. George Wilson proved last year he was clearly better than Whitner. Our team has a long, embarrassing history of not being able to assess the talent on our own roster, and this is no different. Jim Leonard? He stinks – cut him. Greer? Nah. Fred Jackson? Not over A train! This is the scenario again. The Bills starting roster gets BETTER when GW supplants Whitner. Better!
  21. This game means nothing and the jets are gonna play their JVs anyways. The priority should not be winning (obviously still a goal for the team) but rather used as a tool for this team im improve moving forward. This game should be viewed as a preseason game by the FO. (remember their may only be 2 next year with an 18 game schedule). Find out what we have on the roster and determine who should be invited back for next season. Start Brohm. Is he worth keeping around? Could he be a franchise guy? – We will never know if he never plays. Spiller – get him 20+ carries. Can he hold up with 20 carries? Will he improve throughout the game? Could that # of touches mean he breaks a long one? D. Nelson – could he work his way into the starting lineup? Can he be a #1? What could he do in that role? S. Nelson – is he worth keeping around? Can he run block/catch a pass? He has been MIA all year – what can we get out of him? Wang – start him somewhere on the line. With so many scrubs playing over him – he must stink, or at least the coaches think so. Well, time to find out in live action Howard – Start him at G. He stunk at RT but maybe he has a home at G. With Urbik and Rienhart both looking good but not true starters, Howard or Wang will likely be gone next year. We better find out who is better. Maybin – play him at DE, OLB, ILB, somewhere, anywhere. This is his final audition. If he hasn’t figured it out yet he likely won’t. Why keep him around – make him earn his spot on the team. McCargo – he stinks, let him play and prove it to you one more time. He has remain on the team – inexplicably - for so long, something has to be holding the FO back. Maybe one more crappy game by this bust will finally get him cut. Carrington – Has looked good out there in very limited action, I want him out there every single defensive snap. Give the coaches some film for him to study and improve. Troup – See Carrington, except he has played more but not as good. He needs snaps – all of them. Moats – Has been very very good – he can continue to grow. Corner/Youboty – these young depth guys don’t play much but they should start this week. We may lose Florence and McGee is up there in age. Could either of these guys start? Could one un-seat the under-whelming McKelvin? Lets find out for once. GW – play him over Whitner. Whitner stinks anyways, lets see just how much better we could be without him. Im sure there are others but that is what this team should do if they are serious about rebuilding this train wreck of a roster.
  22. Yea, we could end up with a Matt Ryan or Sam Bradford rookie season! How horrible that would be!
  23. Peyton Manning – 1st overall Ryan Leaf – 2nd overall Same draft. That’s how losing this game *could* help us. Its not about guaranteeing anything, because its teh draft and you cant. but, the Bills blow draft picks all over the place. They blow top 10 picks, they blow every pick, we are guaranteed another top 10 selection already – who says we wont blow that too? Its about the ***opportunity*** to select a superstar like Suh, or a great QB like Bradford, and not a small, college RB like we took. This year is the same (assuming they declare) There is Luck, the great QB, then Fairley, Bowers, and Dareus on the DL. Other than that, there are very few super star prospects we could use. The only guarantee is drafting 2 or 3 guarantees you a better opportunity than drafting 8 or 9. Sure we could draft a Maybin over an Orakpo, but Id rather have the **chance** to draft the superstar then not. And not in just the 1st round either, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, every round.
  24. In this exact Order: 1 – Luck 2- Bowers 3- Fairley 4- Hopefully Luck, Bowers, or Fairley are still there. 5- I guess I’ll put Quinn this high 6- I guess I’ll put Dareus this high 7- Hopefully there is a great front 7 defender I haven’t seen this year that can take this spot. 8- NOT Mallet or Locker 9- I guess my hand is forced to say Newton, but I will defer this to Buddy Chan.as weird as this may sound, I actually have faith in Buddy Chan to select a good QB because….. they wanted/liked Tebow - which gives me confidence because Tebow is the man. We are actually guaranteed a top 9 pick so I’ll stop there. There is not T good enough to take in the top 20 let alone 5 or 6 were we could end up so I don’t want one that high. CBs and WRs would be like pissing in the wind, aka we would only be pissing on ourselves. PS I think that WR Blackmon is better than Green FWIW.
  25. Bowers very well may be the best run defender in the draft. If he isn’t, he is second to Fairley and Fairley only. Bowers is also the best pass rusher in the draft – second to maybe Quinn who didn’t play this year so its hard to tell. Let the argument begin if stopping the run or rushing the passer is more important, but you will get both with Bowers and Fairley, I just think Bowers is better. He isn’t on tv much so its not surprising that many fans dont talk about him like Fairley – who was on tv every weekend. Dareus is a good rusher but he is not a good run defender. Alabama is on TV a lot and I have seen him stymied by 1 blocker way to often to be very high on him. I don’t see him improving our rush defense the way Bowers/Fairley could. Please God I hope we lose to the jets or else we wont have a farts chance in the wind to draft Bowers or Fairley. **Yes I think Bowers could play – and excel - as a 34 end.
