Sam Acho is a Buddy Nix kind of guy
High Mark replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The big UT names may not have had success, but many others do. Lamar Houston is having a dynamite rookie year with Oakland - When he went after Troup I thought we made another drarft mistake, J. Charles is a great RB from UT, Jordan Shipley and M. Crosby are quality WRs, Colt has had some early success in limited time. S. Kindle fell down some stairs and hasnt played but who knows what is going on with that. Any school could field a bunch of crappy players and a bunch of great ones. Id rather take a bunch of 'horns than nittany lions.... And about Acho, Im not so sure he is athletic enough to be a OLB. He is kinda slow of foot and plays like a 5 tech with the size of a LB. His brother is a better prospect. -
If my memory serves me correctly, Strouds deal is up after this year - which likely means he is a goner. That makes DL a bigger need than it currently is. Me personally, I would like to see a true 34 NT brought in. KW is a great player anywhere he plays on the line, but his play this year has really been great over the last 6-8 weeks, which is exactly when we made teh major change back to the 43. He ahs dominated at 3 tech once we shifted. I think that if we are going to go 34 his best position is at 5 tech. I dont see/havent heard of ANY 34 NTs in the draft. Shaun Rogers is a FA I believe, and he could be the big 350lb butt plug to anchor the middle for 2-3 years. RDE: KW, Edwards NT: Shaun Rogers, Troup LDE: Bowers/Fairley, Carrington, S. Johnson Not a bad lineup.

Him, Dareus, Bowers, and Luck are all underclassmen. Considering we will be picking no later than 4, that’s 3 top guys who would be perfect for us that may not even declare. On one hand they could all come out to collect that big rookie contract before the rookie cap, on the other hand, there could be an outlook that means no season and they all stay in school. Lets home this CBA doesn’t really F us in the rear with no lube.
-
I think we NEED some dirty on this team. Bowers/Fairley are, IMO, the biggest physical beasts of the group. Marcell Dareus is very solid but Id take Bowers or Fairley over him. Quinn is another guy who is great but may be more of a 3-4 OLB 4-3 DE only, and not be a 3-4 DE option. I was extremely impressed with how well Bowers plays against the run. I think Bowers is strong and big enough to play 3-4 DE, and is also athletic enough to play 3-4 OLB – which is pretty insane. He is a carbon copy of Peppers. He would be a 4-3 end obviously. Claiborne I was very unimpressed with this year. He seems to give up on a lot of plays and not try very hard. He is talented as hell but Id want more effort out of a top 5 pick. If I am ranking the players today: Bowers Fairley Dareus Quinn Claiborne *Quinn may be higher but didn’t play this year, I rank him lower than Dareus bc he will likely slide in the draft this year just like Dez Bryant.

Is D.Bell the LT of the future?
High Mark replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My 2 cents is as follows: Sure Bell looked liked crap vrs Jaren Allen, he makes everyone look like crap. Plus he is a stout, powerful guy who ran right through Bell. Bell is know for being very agile and athletic and not very strong. What a surprise! Yea, its really not. Yet the week before played great vrs another one of the NFLs best in Harrison. He didn’t allow much pressure at all (the flagged hit was an inside stunt, not pressure allow from Bell) Other guys he has faced, and done well against at least statistically are Suggs, Peppers, Mathews, and whoever the Pats and Jets had that week. He really has had one bad week trying to block Jared Allen 1 v1. My thinking is that Bell is more than serviceable but he isn’t elite. That means if we want to rely on him as our LT moving forward we have to be able to give him help on 80% of the plays when we go against an elite DE or OLB. We cannot do that with our current crap at RT and the weaker interior OL we have. If we get a solid RT, like a Love or Carimi in the draft, and get stouter along the interior of our OL a bit, we culd then give Bell help when help is required. Leaving him 1 v 1 vrs Jared Allen is not going to work. -
Reading your post it seems that you are content with our current OL outside of maybe RT. Its almost like you don’t want the team to sign one of the best Gs in the league. That strikes me as you don’t want this team to improve? Like you are happy with what we have had for 10 years. Maybe you are, who knows, but just because we are worse off at DE or LB doesn’t mean we should improve our other still weak positions. And also, who cares if Wood was a 1st rounder – he should still be moved to G or TE or QB if it would make the team better. PS I just got word that he will be moving to C this week – so we can see how he does with Howard at G. Last year Peppers was on the market – yet all the fans thought signing him was a bad idea because he cost too much money. He went to the Bears, who drafted 11th while we drafted 9th (not much worse than us) and Chicago has just as crappy weather – yet he went there. Now they have the #1 ranked defense in the league and Peppers has been worth every penny and then some. The Bills cannot ask for a great DE or LB to be a FA this year. If there is one I would hope the Bills sign him. But it looks like Mankins is a sure fire FA at this point and probably the best at ANY position, and he would be a significant improvement to this team. That is not a panic or knee-jerk reaction that will hurt the team long-term, and that’s not me giving up on Wood, Levitre, or Urbik, but rather an ongoing effort to get the best team on the field. This OL is very close. With 2 key additions we could have a great starting line up and be very deep. Mankins is a guy we could add, who you know is great, and not use a valuable draft pick to do it. That means a 2nd or third could be used on another player and we don’t have to worry much about the OL for 5 years. We need to set a foundation to build off of and I hope we do.

Title says it all. No link, just the word from my inside source

Lets give Maybin and McCargo a break too while we are at it.

Teams don’t need good interior line play? There is a reason top guards are commanding 7= mil a season these days. Bills have been manhandled on the interior for years and it has directly killed our our offense. Just look at the final four from last year. Vikings – Hutchinsen is a top 5 G, NO – Jari evans and Carl Nicks 2 of the best Gs in the league. Jets – Fanaca and Mangold, Mangold is the leagues best C and Fanaca was very dominant too (now that he is gone their running game has suffered mightily). Indy has a HOF Center in Jeff Saturday. Literally all of those guys are in the top 10-20th percentile at their respective positions. You say the NFL means passing the ball – well that means QBs have to step up field. When you are bum rushed up the middle you cannot avoid that rush, when you can avoid outside rushes by stepping up in the pocket. The Bills have plenty of money to pay for players – just look at Evans and Kelsay. We are routinely above other teams in terms of spending who are much more talented, we just do not allocate it properly. Beside, that argument has a farts chance in the wind until the dang naming rights tot the stadium are sold. Ralph can B word all he wants but he wont get a bit of sympathy from me while he pisses away millions of dolars a year just to name the stadium after himself.

I understand and I like Urbik - I was astonished he when he was cut. But expecting the Bills to draft well may be the dumbest thing I could do right now. Relying on other teams cast offs isn't going to beat the Jets or Patriots. We need to get some PB caliber players in here like when Spikes/Sam Adams came in to take our D to the top. We sucked back then and those guys signed. Buffalo the city hasn't changed since then. Those guys came here because we recruited them and they liked our promise and fan base. Nowadays its like the Bills dont even try. Of course they wont come here if we dont even try. Not every guy in the NFL wants his own reality TV show like ocho-dope-o. Mankins lives on a huge ranch in bumble f*** Montana and loves hunting - sounds more like a Buffalo guy than a Boston, NYC, or Miami guy. Joe Thomas (yes I know not a FA just an example) skipped attending the draft to go fishing with his pops. Not everyone has a huge ego, some of them are small town farm boys who would love the blue collar Buffalo. Some guy would want to come here if we ever committed to winning and went out after these guys and made them feel wanted. Nix sleeping when FA opens is NOT the way to do it.
-
Why to we have to settle for other teams cut players as our starters? Why cant we sign Logan Mankins - maybe the NFLs best G - and play him at RG, then move Wood to center. How about we actually move towards WINNING the division, and not LOSING it. Lets get dominant along the OL, and not serviceable. Lets get better instead of treading water. We need to significantly improve, not just get by with what we already have

I used to like Quinn but he has just looked like crap now for too long. Tebow has done well in his limited action as a goaline guy. Who knows how much he has learned too. MCDaniels has always been a good QB tutor. Id rather take a flyer on Tebow than say Wang or Easley (4th or 5th rounder)

Grown @$$ Men fighting over a GAME
High Mark replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO the best thing to do is let the idiots beat themselves up. Dont jump in and dont break it up (unless of course one dude starts seriously hurting the guy, but that rarely if ever happens) - just act like a hockey ref. Most of the time they are winded in 30 seconds anyways and give up. Then they are all tired and sweaty and got punched in the face. Sucks for them. -
Bulaga was regarded as a top 10 pick until they measured his arms. After that, he slipped a little, but not until the week before teh draft was he considered outside the top 10. And to the point you bolded - staying true to your draft board makes no sense when you cannot accuraely put together a draft board. Re-read your post again, Bulaga was rated low, Saffold rated Low, Spiller Rated high..... Well guess who is playing well - Saffold and Bulaga, guess who isnt - Spiller. Who the heck wants to stay true to THAT board? Who wants to stay true to the board that has Maybin higher than Orakpo/Cushing/Oher/Mathews? Who wants to stay true to the board with McCargo listed in the first round? Yea stay true to your boad if its accurate - but its teh draft it is rarely accurate. If there is a good player like Bulaga - who you know is going to be solid - take him. He may end up being better than your top guy anyways.

hmm 11 years now? Mularky 9-7, 6-10, Dickie J 7-9, 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, Chan, 2-10... only a few more years of patients and we could go 0-16!!!!!! YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0-16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS ALL HAVE PATIEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNTTSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what we need! We need to just accept more of these losses and terrible, blatently obvious draft choices!!!!!!! How about stop being patient and draft some real players? Why cant that be my comment? its been 14 games. Guess what, Spiller isnt a rookie anymore. If he isnt starting to get it, he prob wont. He is a RB, not a rocket scientist. Yes. But while Bulaga was clearly the choice in my eyes, but if you want to draft some skill position guy, WHY NOT DEZ BRYANT. How patient did Cowboys fans have to be? They waited what, 2 games for him to become the best player on the offense? Holy crap we at least had a small need at WR, as it wasnt our most stacked and complete position on the team.

Dont let one game turn your opinion around! -
Bulaga was highly touted at draft time and has played well enouhg to warrent the selection. Saffold was not highly touted but has played well enough to warrent the selection. Thats 2 Ts worth 9. I have to agree with him here Senator. I love Carimi but to think he is going in to top 15 is a stretch. He is a ood player but the combine will show a lot of his limited athletic ability, which will hurt his draft stock. I think he will be a great player, but his STOCK will be hurt by the workouts. Then he will go on to a great career and all us fans will be like "I knew that guy was awesome, why didnt my team draft him earlier, wtf?"
-
I am hoping he learned that tackles are more important than running backs. Man did Jared Allen dominate our entire offense!
-
It seems like a lot of fans arent too hot on this pick anymore. Maybe taking the situational RB who never ran between the tackle in college when we already had 2 boarderline PBers at RB and have huge holes everywhere else wasnt such a great idea? Who woulda thought?

The bills alwasy cut good players. He was cut cause the Bills FO personell cannot evaluate the players on their roster or in FA or in college. Same old story over and over -
Now can we all agree that Fitz is not the guy.
High Mark replied to Austin_Bills_Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 things 1- I have a new source deep in SEC country. This source is sayign Cam Newton is NFL bound this year 100%. No word yet if that has anything to do with the NCAA violations but he is declaring is what I here. 2- The Bills are gonna trade for Tebow. The Broncos new coach likely wont like him when he already has a very good Orton. The Bills can trade on the cheap for they guy they wanted all along. Conspiracy!!!! -
I thought the Bills drafted SPiller to play OL? O yea, no they didnt!
