10/2/22 GAMEDAY Bills at Ravens Pregame Thread
Gale Gilbert replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Where does one find this "Yellow jacket?" My internet rummaging turned up nothing... and by rummaging I mean a Google Search and giving up after the third page of results. And so I'm not completely hijacking the thread, here are some obvious comments/stupid questions: 1) The Bills' secondary should have an easier day today. 2) Does it make sense to put a "spy" on Jackson because the Ravens don't have top flight receivers? Seems like if he is contained the Ravens are done. 3) I saw that somewhere that the 3rd CB for the Ravens is a weakness for them. So McKenzie goes off for 2 tds and 80 yards today right? Go Bills and have a nice Sunday -

McDermott doesn't have original thoughts as far as I can tell. -
I always wonder about this. Belichick and Brady together never had a losing season with the Patriots. What if they went 7-9 for three years in a row? Would the Patriots have still kept them in the name of stability? Are we supposed to believe that the likes of Williams, Jauron, Gailey, and Ryan would have figured it out if only they were given more time? I don't buy it. On the other hand, the Eagles were a mess when Chip Kelly left and two years later they were on top of the league. I think there's something to the original poster's point. The Pats seem to be able to generate yards in the short and mid-range passing game regardless of down and distance, but I don't really understand how because I don't follow schemes.

What's Up With the Buffalo Blitz Paywall?
Gale Gilbert replied to Keukasmallies's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's $2.99 a month and it helps support the local paper. Big deal. -
1990 - Week 4 Bills - Broncos. Bills are down by 12 in the 4th quarter. The special teams (blocked FG return), defense (INT return), and offense each score a TD in the span of 77 seconds to key the win. 1990 - week 5 Bills-Raiders. Bills trail by 10 in the 4th quarter and again get a special teams TD, this time off of a blocked punt to take the lead. Nate Odomes seals the win a INT return for another TD.

I stand corrected. I listened to the game on the radio (I dont live on WNY anymore) and this explanation was not given. I dont care to know enough about football to have looked into whether or not the offense was checking out certain looks from the defense. On the surface it seemed pretty dumb and made me lose some faith in the coaches moving forward in similar situations. I suppose that faith is now restored. I still think its ok to reserve judgement after 4 games, though, especially with this team. I liked that comment about the steak dinners, too. I wish I was creative.

VCR ALERT:Bills 2016 Highlights Film
Gale Gilbert replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And punting. Oh, the punting. -
I dunno, I'm inclined to give the guy a break. Covering the Bills for the last 17 years has to be like covering the "Red Wedding" episode of Game of Thrones over and over and over. They guy has to find new stuff to write about but never has any new plot threads to unwind. It's a reach to say that the Bills should regret Hogan's departure base on one playoff performance, sure, but what more is there to say that hasn't been said at some point since 2000?

What is your 2016 Marketing Slogan Suggestion?
Gale Gilbert replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Fear the playoffs" "When it's 4th and Rex's head, punt" "We like to play football" "Did we mention that we have consistent punting?" "Playing not to lose since 1960" I think that punting should have something to do with it. -
I don't think that the league would ever do a Saturday night game because this would take away from Saturday Night league-sponsored events in the host city. Additionally, businesses in that host city count on having guests fill their hotels and restaurants for the entire weekend, and I don't see ever doing anything to short-change that. As for working the next day...it sucks. I can't see any way that it doesn't suck. I avoid going to Super Bowl parties because I don't want to deal with the trouble of travelling somewhere and then dealing with parking (street parking in my neighborhood) after 11:00. It has nothing to do with wanting to get "trashed" or stuff myself so full of dip and chicken wings that I want to throw up. The game still ends pretty late for kids who go to school, and for people who have to be at work earlier than 9. Having the Super Bowl on President's Day weekend would be great. It would certainly reduce the amount of people who call in sick, because several of us would have the day off scheduled. Also, people wouldn't be pressured to hysterically flee the host city late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Business would get even more of a bump from the extra day off for that weekend as well.

Time to admit it: Marrone>Ryan
Gale Gilbert replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know. It's my opinion... I didn't do a ton of research on that particular trade before posting. It struck me as a move that Ryan loved. I don't think that, given the same option, Marrone would have agreed to it because... well...I think he's a putz. He was also part of the group that drafted Alonso. Ryan had no such loyalty. Now answer my question. Who would be the QB? -
Time to admit it: Marrone>Ryan
Gale Gilbert replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe Doug Marrone has a better record at this point if he stayed. Maybe not. It would depend on who his starting QB would have been. Is it Tyrod Taylor? Unlikely. Is it EJ? Do the the Bills acquire McCoy? No and No. So...which journeyman QB would have been handing the ball off to Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown? How would that have made this team better than 5-6 at this point? I thought Marrone was a putz. I think that Ryan is a doofus. What's the difference? -
Predictions: Bills v. Jets
Gale Gilbert replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep, something like this. This has all of the makings of a heartbreak. Charlie Brown is closing in on the football, which Lucy appears to nonchalantly holding. It's about time the Bills go hurtling through the air after giving their best effort in a nationally televised night game. I believe that the Bills should win this game. But I'm nervous that tomorrow night will become sleepless. Last year's week 9 game vs. the Chiefs, I felt like they would win, and couldn't wait to watch. This time... -

Anyone else sick of the analytics talk?
Gale Gilbert replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it has a place in the discussion, even by people who aren't experts. I think 4th down bot on Twitter does say what the win probability is based in a decision to go for it on 4th and whatever or punt. At the same time, especially during football season, the afternoon WGR show latches on to it and doesn't let go. I think the problem is that there is a lack of competition in sports radio in Buffalo. These guys have held a monopoly on the afternoon drive time slot with no catalyst for them to improve or get off the air. As a result, they now believe that they are the smartest people in the room. On the other side of that, I've lived in the DC, NYC, and now live in Philadelphia (listen to GR on the app). I've found that several hosts in these places are on the opposite end. They act as though the analytics part is for the birds and wear their ignorance of the topic and/or unwillingness to learn the basics of something new as a badge of honor (this may have changed in DC and NY). It is equally off-putting. The difference is, there are competing stations with sports shows along the I-95 corridor, so hosts are incentivized to do their best show every day. -

Anyone have a video of of Bulls reaction when they saw their name come up during the selection? Wanted to see it on the selection special and figured CBS would have a camera there, it being the first tournament berth and all, but no dice. -
EJ Manuel. Our next star quarterback
Gale Gilbert replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like EJ, too and didn't want him to get benched after the Houston game. That video made me think 3 things. 1) I wish he would use his mobility more in the NFL. 2) I wish Duke was in the AFC East. 3) Rashad Greene looks like he could be a nice player, maybe like Wes Welker? I hope that there is a real QB competition next year such that if EJ were to win it, he will have earned it. I hope that he has been a bit humbled by the benching, because some of his comments after the pre-season and regular season games about how he thought he played well were a bit head-scratching. -
"Season on the Brink- Marrone Punts"
Gale Gilbert replied to racecitybills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chip Kelly's nickname was "Big Balls" Kelly before he came into the NFL. He made similar decisions on 4th and 1 yesterday. Is there something about the NFL that makes coaches turtle? Inexplicable loss, but I can't say Marrone deserves to be fired. He'll just be replaced by some other stuffed clown who won't live up to his reputation. At least the team appears to be moving in the right direction heading into next year.
