  1. If the Bills were the first team to trot out the Wildcat last year, they would have had success with it, too. They didn't and tried to copy it with personncel that didn't really fit. If the Bills are to win a game or get on a roll because of a gimmick or wrinkle, Jauron and the coaches will have to come up with a new one themselves.
  2. Yeah and it looks like he's sculpting it. I thought he spoke well. I like the fact that he said that he wouldn't talk with Romo, Garcia, or Mcnabb, as if they would give him an instruction manual. I was thinking that Mcgee will only get better defending Owens in practice, and McKelvin or Youboty or whoever will get reps opposite Evans will get better, too. Also nice to hear a solid baritone vs. the tenor that signed with Las Vegas. This is the year of Edwards. If the O-line holds up, he'll have a great year. Am I shocking anyone with that statement? Didn't think so.
  3. I would choose many of the plays mentioned above, but since they've been discussed here's another one. 1998 playoff game vs. the Karim Abdul Jabbar - led Miami Dolphins. The Bills kicked a field goal to get within 7 points with something like 1:30 in the game(because of the unsportsmanlike penalty against Reed), recover the onside kick, and drive down to the goal line. Flutie, instead of throwing the ball away, holds onto the ball to long, gets sacked and fumbles at the 5 yard line with 17 seconds left. For the next 3 years, we Bills fans complained of Johnson failing to get rid of the ball....
  4. I like Rice, too. He's currently ranked 133 on ESPN's list. You can get him in later rounds if your league drafts before training camp. As camp goes along, I think his value will rise and you might have to use a 7th rounder or earlier to get him. I also like LeSean McCoy, especially with the Westbrook injury. Edwards would be a decent matchup QB, and if you don't get a guy like Brees or Brady or Rivers, it might not be a bad idea to get Edwards with someone like Shaub or Orton, and choose according to the opponent.
  5. Hmm, but if McDowell doesn't return that INT for a touchdown, does Buffalo win that game? I just blew my mind. I always thought that I would rather have McKeller over Metzelaars in their best years, but your stats are hard to argue with. But McKeller must have won that job fair and square because in those days they weren't handing out jobs in that offense. Not like recently, where many positions are thin and a 4th round TE is drafted with an idea that he can start right away.
  6. Cheeseburgers and romantic walks on the Seattle waterfront. Oh, wait, that was another promising first-year NFL head coach.
  7. The blitzing linebacker isn't in the picture yet. Butler clearly doesn't see him.
  8. I'm not so sure about that. If that were true, then why did Haynesworth leave the Titans? The Redskins might be the worst in that division. Why would anyone leave the Colts or Steelers?
  9. When I read press conferences after a free agent signs, often I hear the athlete say that they came to the team because of how much it appeared they were wanted by management. So if the Bills contract offer is significantly better than Chicago, this linebacker will be in Buffalo. If the Bills want him badly enough, they'll get him.
  10. The record listed is the record from last season. They're not predicting the Eagles to go 9-6-1 again this year.
  11. It's kind of sad when you think about how the introduction of the current free agency system messed up not only the Bills best chance at a Super Bowl, but major players on that team had below average careers elsewhere. Where did Odomes and Ballard go? Seattle? What happened to them there? Will Wolford was all right in Indy. Shane Conlan? I can only think of those 4 off the top of my head, but were there more?
  12. In the 51-3 Raider playoff game, Norwood missed a 45 yarder wide right.

  14. Even if Lindell makes the FG at the end of the Cleveland game, it's still a bad decision. How many coaches would call three runs into the line when losing at the end of the game? A 47 yarder at the Ralph is no easy task, and if anyone should know that, it's the Bills head coach. Schonert: There's one minute left, coach. We're looking at about a 50 yarder field goal into a solid wind. Cleveland still has 3 time outs. We should make them use them by running into the line. Smart person following Jauron with wires: I dunno. We should try and get closer, or at least spread the field. Jauron: Turk's my guy! Don't ever let anyone say I'm disloyal! With a QB like Losman, why take the risk with a lead? It's still a foolish call even it if works. Schonert : Let's take our lame backup QB (who you benched in favor of Edwards) and ask him to seal the victory. Jauron: Sounds like a plan! Cheers! I hope it comes across that I'm a great guy to work with! Week 10. Bills are losing 10-3. It's 4th and 3 with one minute left in the first half and Buffalo's at the Patriots 39 yard line. Jauron punts. Why? Because the Bills are a "second half team" against the Patriots? His neurons are not firing on all cylinders. He's aggressive when he should be conservative, conservative when he should be aggressive.
  15. Dick Jauron is not responsible for all of the talent that is currently on the roster. He is, however, responsable for such game day calls as ... 1) Running 3 times into the middle to burn Cleveland's timeouts at the end of the Monday Night game last year, setting up a 47 yd FG into a wind. How did that turn out? 2) Calling the Losman rollout against the Jets last year 3) Numerous challenge nightmares. 4) Punting from the Pats 39 near the end of the first half. And I'm sure there are others. I'm not local so I don't get to watch all of the games. There are plenty of good people who get along with the people they work with, but still aren't suited for their job. Jauron is one of them. There are 8 rookie coaches in the NFL this year. The Bills could have went 7-9 with one of them, too.
  16. Drafted in 2002. Has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons. A downgrade from Peters, I think, but an upgrade over what they currently have.
  17. That draft opened season 1 of life without the playoffs.
  18. I like it that someone called out the FO about their comments about character. I think that 4 years, $10 million is too much for a backup RB who will be 32-33 when the deal is up. The Broncos and Patriots screwed the market with Buckhalter and Taylor. 4 years and $6 million is fair amount to offer - and go up to $7 million.
  19. It's all well and good to reserve judgement. But these guys get paid a butt load of money not to put themselves in situations where they even have to be arrested.
  20. It's not as though I assume NFL players are thugs. I assumed Whitner was a guy I wouldn't hear about in this way due to his leadership role on the team. Guys like that generally aren't assuming fighting stances at 3:00 AM. I'm surprised by this.
  21. Matt Jones comes to mind as well. Is there any NFL team at this point that doesn't have someone getting in some kind of trouble? When did all of this nonsense start with players in the league? Eugene Robinson at the 1999 Super Bowl, or earlier? Not excusing Whitner, but it seems like drafting for character has the same success rate as drafting for talent. It's hit or miss. When Whitner and Lynch came in here, they were billed as good guys. Recent incidents obviously cast doubt. The Bills thought they have someone who won't bring negative attention, but were wrong. Just like they thought Mike Williams would be a top OT.
  22. And Vince Young will win one as a backup for the Titans. Big deal.
  23. I remember in that game that they showed an overhead image of the forward pass from the blimp. From that angle, there's no doubt it went forward because it limited the dimension of depth, which the refs never took into account when looking at video of the play from a camera that filmed it at an angle. I've never seen that replay again. Just that one time. On the NFL Network replay, did they show the overhead image? I'm not insane. I know I saw it. I remember tracing the path of the ball on the TV screen my mom got annoyed with me for it.
  24. Hey Tim, Regarding the TO signing, how do you think Belichick, Ryan, and Sparano are going to react? Glad that a rival has taken on a headache, or worried because of the guy's talent?
  25. The organization is not making smart decisions. The drought will continue indefinitely.
