  1. I think that Reed is more deserving than Brown or Carter, and maybe I'm viewing it through red and blue glasses. Brown and Carter all have more receptions, yards and TD's. Over time, it seems that stats are what stand out, not the type of patterns the receiver ran.
  2. Interesting article, but I thought it had a couple of flaws. First, and maybe I'm naive, but I'm not sure that the outpouring of support to Haiti was due to the US population getting whacked over the head by politicos and celebrities to give. That lame telethon came a week after the event, anyway. Disasters don't discriminate, and if Port-au-Prince had a lower incidence of poverty, citizens of the city would still need help. If a natural disaster happened in my neck of the woods, I would hope that people elsewhere would help out. In the short term, money needs to go to food and water. I don't care if you're neighborhood/city/country is rich or poor, an earthquake/hurricane/tsunami, will shut down power sources and contaminate water systems anywhere. People who would otherwise have means to help themselves would not have the ability in that instance. In the long term, when the initial wave of human angst is overcome, the extra income needs to be invested in new technologies to help prevent the same devestation. Additionally, if relief money is devoted to making ravaged areas a nicer place to live, they will have less incentive to attempt to flee to the US, or somewhere else. The Red Cross, or other American-based relief groups, need to have an overseer holding local governments accountable for how they spend their money. I hope that this base is covered already, because if it is, then I feel better about how donation money will be spent. New Orleans, Port-au-Prince, the immense area affected by the 2004 tsunami- all of them don't have to go the way of Pompeii. Hopefully, a decent percentage of the relief dollars will help them better withstand the next disaster.
  3. I'm not loving the Gailey hire, either, and I'm not saying he's better than Marty. I just didn't realize the high esteem people had for Schottenheimer.
  4. I also agree that this is a good comparison. I would have looked to it to try and feel optimistic if Marty had been hired.
  5. I'm not saying that it's better. I'm saying that what comes to mind with Schottemheimer is the colossal playoff collapses with the Browns, Chiefs, and Chargers. Fine, Buffalo hasn't even made the playoffs in 10 years, but just making the playoffs isn't the goal. Failing on the biggest stage cost him his job. Deservedly so. Would people have really been satisfied if Marty were introduced as head coach today? If so, then I'm in the minority then. But he has the same number of championships as Gailey, with 19 more years of experience.
  6. Marty lost 14-3 at home with a boring offense.
  7. The guy has 200 career wins. More than 75% of them came before 1998 with the Chefs. What's your point? Mine is that I think he would have been considered an uninspiring hire as well.
  8. So pretend that Marty is coming in as the next HC. Do you feel good about that hire? Or only slightly better than with Gailey? I'm not sure he's that much of an upgrade over Gailey. He has a winning record, but that was accumulated mostly in the 80's and 90's. He's also another retread who runs a boring offense. You've just married a slightly ugly woman (or man). Would you have sex with a different ugly woman (or man) just because she wanted to? Wait, don't answer that... So Schotty wanted to get back to coaching and didn't get a shot in Buffalo. Big deal.
  9. He must have meant an aging Troy Aikman got him fired, who was steps away from retirement. I doubt that Aikman had that much pull at the end of his career. That article, or blog post or whatever, seemed all over the place. If the author wanted to make "Chan Gailey flamed out" the main point, he should have mentioned the quotes about Jerry Jones regretting firing him after 2 seasons. I dunno. Gailey took over a team that was 6-10 and made the playoffs. Let's see if he can settle the o-line and QB positions and sneak in next season. The Jets did it this year with a rookie HC and QB. It can be done.
  10. Lynch won't get a #1 pick in return if the Bills trade him. Especially now that his value is down.
  11. So 3 runs for for 28 yards and they take Jones out. I don't understand how people some people are "smart" enough to land a head coaching job.
  12. So who's idea was it to sign Brohm? Fewell? Brandon? Wilson? Van Pelt?
  13. Well a team who thinks they're a player or two away from making a serious playoff run may go for Owens. After all, it's no strings attached after this season. Also, I always thought that his agent painted himself into a corner when he said that Owens would sign with a team within one week after his release from Dallas. Maybe the Bills were the only team to show interest in his client during that week. I'll bet that if Rosenhaus had been more patient, there would have been more interest elsewhere.
  14. Well for what it's worth, Fred Jackson has tons of attention from the fantasy football community. Most major sports website's fantasy pages have had Jackson as at least top 10 back for the last 2 weeks. ESPN loves him. I have both Jackson and Lynch on my team, and for fantasy purposes wish Lynch were suspended for the entire season.
  15. It would be a good move for the Bills if they rented Rhodes, but why wouldn't Rhodes try and sign with another team for the full season first?
  16. Your point is taken. I'll rationalize TO's prior actions because he's on the Bills and has yet to do anything to make me annoyed. Here goes -- The worst thing in my mind that TO (reality show notwithstanding) did was the whole sit-up circus with his agent. This action occurred away from the practice facility. It served as a distraction to the extent that the press would ask questions to his teammates about it. Marshall is bringing the distraction directly to the playing field and disrupted practice. From what I've read and heard, TO practices and plays hard when he's on the field.
  17. http://forums.denverbroncos.com/showthread.php?t=148746 What they're saying on the matter. I don't know why anyone would want to deal with someone who acts like that. Forget the talent. Somewhere along the line, personal pride and accountability to your teammates has to count for something. Steve Smith broke a teammates nose, showed genuine remorse, and never dogs it in practice (from what I know, anyway). Anquan Boldin has been after a new contract for years, and certainly deserves it. He's the toughest receiver in the league, in my estimation. You'd think Marshall would take a page out of their playbook. Even Roddy White, who was a holdout. At least he held out. Marshall made a bunch of threats, then said that he wasn't going to give up a paycheck. And he acts like he's at volleyball practice with the John Carroll B team, it seems. Get him in a UFL uniform and be done with it.
  18. Preseason affirms or refutes hopes and doubts about a team. Before it started, I was hoping that the Bills would perform well in week 1. I doubted that it would happen. So far, hope refuted, doubt affirmed. I don't care about 2nd half performance in these games. I am watching the first string compete against the opposing first string. Anything else is misleading. If they play well in week 1, I'll feel better about the team. But until then, why should I think otherwise? (It's not rhetorical - please tell me why I should think otherwise)
  19. This is true, but Double G had a pretty good rapport with Brad Lamb that never was seen on the gridiron. Oh, what could have been.
  20. Well, it appears by all of his previous actions that Owens does like people constantly screaming his name. I think that the main point is the blind faith that many fans have put in him is unwarranted. Wait for him to convert a 3rd down or get at 20+ yard play in a game that actually matters before showering him with affection. I get that, and I find it amusing, especially after watching Owens do pushups in his driveway, that us Bills fans are giving him a clean slate right away. But I've done it, too. My rational side tells me that Owens, on paper, is a nice addition that will do well until it gets cold, and then most likely will criticize someone for running on a 3rd and 2 into the wind in December. My irrational side tells me that this guy will make some big plays, catch game winning td's (like in the 98 playoffs -49ers vs Packers), get opposing DB's off their game, and make the team exciting to watch and believe in this year. The fans cheering when he makes a 5 yard reception on a slant are on that level, I think. I say this because, as a former 3rd string QB for the bills, I speak for all fans.
  21. I know that the social implications of his actions have been discusses ad nauseum elsewhere on the board. As far as football facts go, before Vick went to prison he relied on superior physical skills to quarterback the Falcons. After two years eating whatever it was he was eating, and also not being near a football field, he most likely does not have these skills. You may say what do the Bills have to lose, but what do they have to gain here, other than more media attention?
  22. He's got 49 receptions to go. He most likely won't get 7 catches a week, so it'll be after week 7. I'll say their 11th game, week 12 - barring injury. That's the Dolphins game. Old Guy was first with this prediction.
