  1. Past hour
  2. If they're remembered at all, it's as paper tigers and chock artists. Not exactly a legacy that is that appealing. To say they're remembered for anything positive at this stage is poppyballs.
  3. What? They are remembered. Nobody is saying winning a title doesn't matter. But it isn't all that matters. You can be remembered without a Superbowl. That doesn't mean anyone is fine not winning one. Obviously we all want the Bills to win one. But the argument that it is all the matters is poppycock.
  4. Sounds like you have already made up yours. Are you the President of the Rory McIlroy fan club?? I hope he proves me wrong, the guy has always been a good player, but he never played as lights out as he played in the beginning of this year. He really needed the Masters to cement his legacy, and maybe he was willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. If he plays poorly at the Canadian open, and misses the cut at the US Open, will you at least allow for the possibility that something was fishy?? If he plays well in these next two tournaments, then I will have read too much into it, admit I was wrong, and let it go.
  5. I think it was very much a regional and who you hang around with type thing. I wasn’t around then, but heard stories from parents. The 70’s were before the internet, and people lives were based on what others did in their social circle. I assume that created larger differences in the choices people made back then. I think community and ethnicity made a huge difference in the 70’s. My grandparents were from Buffalo, and you weren’t going to a wedding in most ethnic neighborhoods without alcohol being freely served. It’s very much part of German, Italian, and Eastern European culture. You could also get a really good deal on an open bar if you held a reception at a community/ethnic gathering spot. I think this might be why some people had that experience, especially growing up in northern/midwestern cities.
  6. Does 17 win MVP last year with Diggs on the team? I suspect “no”. No way to prove it but it seems true.
  7. Augie

    Gala or Gayla

When we lived in Sarasota, Fl there was a huge event every year called the UnGala Gala, designed for the younger people rather than the Opera House crowd. We went a few years, and I learned it was actually an upscale meat market for the 30-somethings, but I digress (with some humorous memories). Hundreds of people there, and it was 100% GAYla.
  8. Bonzo would of been 77 today.
  9. You’re like a beaten dog. Hiding into your corner when not sure what to do.
  10. So he traded a 1st round pick for a sure thing for a WR diva in AJ Brown who has given them three straight 1,000 yard seasons and has been instrumental in helping Hurts develop as a quarterback. Bright guy.
  11. If she has a father nowadays 😎
  12. On a happy note, and because it has been mentioned in this thread, Truman ended its' eight+ month deployment and docked in Norfolk today. The airwing would have flown off a couple days prior. Fly-offs and landing at your home base after a long cruise are tremendously happy days that you never forget.
  13. Raiders had the Steelers, Colts had the Patriots, Dallas had the 49ers. It's not like the Chiefs can't be beat. If they're worthy enough they will, if they aren't they won't. That is sort of the point I'm making?
  14. Schotty's Chargers Schotty's Chiefs Green's Vikings
  15. Agree it doesn't need to be discussed in literally every thread. We all know it and feel it.
  16. Hey, I agree. I want a Superbowl just as much as any other fan. But it is kind of annoying that any time anything positive is ever said about the team, there is a contingent of fans that come and say "it doesn't matter because we haven't won the superbowl." It gets old. We all want it. We all get it. They aren't saying anything we all don't already know. It is just this joyless, wet blanket of an attitude that isn't fun for anyone.
  17. I wonder if someone is taping the whole thing, the wedding and reception. If so, and made public, I would love to see it.
  18. Yeah I'm shocked by the amount of people claiming to have been to all these open-bar weddings in the 70's. It was quite rare back then (in my neck of the woods anyway) and people would almost brag about it had they been to one. Especially considering that the average cost of a wedding back then was only $2k. I just did a little research and found a post by a bartender who did weddings in the 70's - he said the open bar was around $600 for 2 hours. So the open bar would have been about 30% of the total wedding cost. Long story short, maybe the others in this thread have very affluent friends. Or maybe you and I just grew up around very poor people 🤣
  19. Name 5 highly successful teams that never went to a Super Bowl that history holds in high regard? Hell, name 3?
  20. Except ALL those teams ARE remembered. They are famous teams in NFL history. So I can't buy your argument. It is not all that matters from a historical perspective.
  21. "The only thing that matters" is a really subjective concept so it's hard for me to unpack. You can argue nearly everything matters just as easily. To me what is ultimately remembered about a team or era is what matters. I can't think of any franchise in NFL history who is remembered very fondly for incredible success in the regular season and never having won one. The 90's Bills are about as close as it comes to that and it took 20+ years for them to be remembered in any positive manner. The Purple people eaters, Broncos are similar, but in all these examples teams went to 3 or more Super Bowls. What is the group we are discussing when we start to say never having been to one or maybe just one? It's hard to think of many. Maybe the Run and Shoot Houston Oilers or the Air Coryell Chargers? Both might be more memorable simply from offensive innovation and not success. Most people don't want that as fans or for Josh. So the celebratory notions ring a bit hollow.
  22. Maybe im wrong. Or maybe its regional? Im honestly not sure. My understanding was that open bar is a (relatively) new phenomenon. Most people I knew back in the day could not afford open bar, and also it was frowned upon because religion had a much stronger grip on society. I looked it up and as of last year, only 62% of weddings had an open bar.
  23. Oh Diggs was a "sure thing" all right lol! If Roseman had not also put together a roster that played in 2 of the last 3 SBs, destroying a 15 win Chiefs team, you might have a point. They could shrug of a bad decision at WR. He quickly rebounded by drafting Smith and then traded for AJ Brown. Beane brought in his usual minibus load of week old bread bin guys who end their careers in Buffalo soon after their 1 year paper expires.... Diggs never moved the needle for the Bills--zero impact: with or without Diggs, Bills win the division, lose to the Chiefs in the playoffs. It cost a potential top rookie WR on a 5 year contract and 31 million in dead cap, plus all the predictable immaturity/headaches.
