You can’t look by one season. If you take historic results then the #1 seed matters. There will always be exceptions like last year but predominantly the top seed gets to the SB.

Break playing NFC south

Mentioned this in another post, but one plus in the Bye Week coming after Week 6 is that it gives Hoecht and Ogunjobi two full weeks in the building before they hit the field. It may allow both to hit the ground running in Week 8 with extra preparation.

Ya IMO there's not enough evidence to correlate a late bye being an advantage. Have the majority of teams the last 10 Years or so won the Super Bowl with a late bye? Seems so, but not in convincing fashion. Also could be because of so many factors, which is why it's hard to correlate a late bye with being a big advantage

After hearing that he was turning heads at mini-camp I thought I'd take a closer look. Some have commented that his college tape is unimpressive. I disagree. Some college receivers benefit from scheme touches, pre-snap motion and free releases. Prather was used almost exclusively outside, facing press coverage and battling DBs for contested balls. And that's what Beane specifically wants him to do, even if eventually he shows that can also line up and work from the slot. For now Beane is not looking for him to operate at all field levels but certainly they are at least aware of his proven ability to run in breaking routes after selling the vertical. Prather tests as a decent but in no way exceptional athlete (RAS 7.68). He has been criticized for an alleged lack of explosion as evidenced by his 30" vertical and 9'6" broad jump but I think that needs to be reexamined. His vertical, while disappointing, is perhaps partially offset by his truly remarkable ability to adjust to the ball at the catch point. Nobody in his draft class does it as well as he does. And he does start out with a height advantage over the guys who will be covering him. Although his combine vertical and broad jump suggest a lack of explosive power/lower body strength his ten yard split, 1.53, is elite (Brian Thomas' was 1.55, Justin Jefferson's 1.57) and his 20 yard split, 2.64, is also very good (Thomas' was 2.53, Jefferson's 2.61). Ill take those over his broad jump all day. His hand size/wingspan check out ok. He is a developmental player who probably belongs on the practice squad but if he truly shines in OTAs and preseason games Bills may have to make a decision. Word gets around. Of course he won't be getting much in the way of reps so he will have to make the most of his opportunities. Beane's draft strategy was based on addressing perceived needs and some of his later picks are clearly seen as roll players. Prather is in that group. He may not make it of course but he was an excellent 7th round pick.

This is the biggest part of it. Folks claiming he's just an extra WR ignore his lacking skillset as a TE. Can't block (or doesn't), poor seam cutting routes, doesn't excel at finding open spaces in zone, does not breakaway or release from man coverage. If he was a pure WR he would not have gone first round. Maybe 3rd.

No one said not to get a new one but I'm sure air force one is in top notch shape, not a loose nut or screw on it. It is kept up to date Technically also. You think nothing of paying Benford $20 million and he’s a concussion away from being in danger of losing his career. Since Thurman, how many game changing backs have we wasted high draft choices on who were either injury riddled and mediocre or head cases like Lynch. We can have Cook for 3 or four more years at reasonable rates compared to the increased price structure greatl RBs will be demanding after Barkley and Henry’s deal. It’s because of the threat of Cook that Josh has been so prolific.

I don't think we can glean a lot from schedules given how much things change between seasons & throughout the season. How many times have we seen "weak" or "tough" strength of schedules flipped on their head? Like going into the 2024 season, the Browns were an 11 win team boosting SoS, the 49ers were the NFC champs, and the Cowboys had 12 wins. They looked tough on paper, but then the 2024 season happened. Browns 3 - 14, 49ers 6 - 11, and Cowboys 7 - 10. On the opposite end, people with "easy" SoS had opponents the 5 win Chargers & 7 win Vikings, only for them to be actual good teams that finished 11-6 & 14-3. Does anyone think the Vikings will finish with 14 wins again? Doubtful. Now I know everything people are discussing isn't based on SoS. Prime time games, distance traveled, short weeks, etc. are all a factor. But there's way too many factors week to week to predict very far into the future. I remember when the Jags were coming off the divisional round loss to KC, people were saying they had the easiest possible layup for the 1 seed. They were expected to improve, their division was in the gutter, and they had an extremely weak schedule. Then CJ Stroud came along, they sucked, and now they're back to asking "do we have a franchise QB?" No Christmas or international games is good no matter how you look at it, so I'll call that a win. But when you take into account the random things that happen, injuries, suspensions, or even just bad luck with weather, the only thing I'll predict is 12 - 14 wins overall. Actually, there's one more thing that's for certain - the Bengals will lose a bunch of early games, slowly crawl their way out, then b*tch & moan that they missed the playoffs again 😊
