This is NOT a championship-calibre defense. The same issues and concerns are still gaping holes on a defense that “Big Baller” Beane and his "defensive mastermind” head coach have spent many offseasons addressing. This team has a “Trent Edwards is our QB” philosophy and I don’t know how much longer fans are going to put up with it. Beating the 0-2 Dolphins who were on the verge of mailing in the rest of the season should not be the standard of excellence around here. It needs to be “Super Bowl appearance or GTFO”.

Do The Bills Have A Passing Game Problem?
Kirby Jackson replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
I posted it in the game thread but this is why some of us have been screaming for a top WR for 2 years. Josh had time. Nobody could get open. The tape is not going to be kind to the WRs. That’s why he only threw one ball 10+ air yards. When everything happens within 10 yards of the LOS the defenses will adjust. It will become harder to run and those windows tighter. You have to be able to stretch the field vertically to open everything up!! You can get away with that against Miami and New Orleans. When you’re battling KC/Baltimore in January, you can’t have Josh drop back, have time, and no one to throw to. The margin for error is miniscule in those big games. You need a dude on the outside. Shakir is a nice player but not a dude. Coleman still can’t get open. Kincaid is developing into a good TE but not a dude. Josh is incredible and the OL elite. The TEs are good, Cook is turning into a star and the WRs are bad. So the Bills can still score points but they are also limited. Both statements are true. -

We got pressure. The problem was we also let Tua slide out of pressure and extend the play, and then coverage cant hold up that long and it's an easy completion. McDermott talked about it in his post game. Said they need to tweak it on Defense so our guys are actually hitting the QB and not letting him extend the play. I think a lot of that was missing Ed in the middle last night. Bosa and Rousseau would get upfield and close to Tua, and when Tua stepped up to evade, we didnt have anyone coming up the middle to clean up. -

It is our defense, not offense. Our running defense is mediocre and Miami converted 10/15 Third down.. -
This kid is a hell of a find.

As for Walker... I said he was like a young Jordan Phillips when we drafted him. That is what I see. He is a big body with a habit of getting penetration.

47 yard line 32 yard line 26 yard line 26 yard line 37 yard line I wouldnt say it's "very few" making it to the 35. Those returns average out to the 34 yard line. And each of those come with the chance to pop it for a TD, which was very close on a couple of them. When the game was on the line at the end, they wisely kicked it into the end zone. Just do that all game instead of giving the other team a chance to turn the game around.

Both these DT's could end up being something, but yeah that move was outstanding -

Maybe more than defensively, Epenesa contributes on special teams. Last night he played 15 of the 26 special teams snaps. -
He could take snaps from any of the edge guys not name Bosa. None of them has done anything of note so far.

Worried as Bills fans, yes, but that's typical Survivor. Week 1, I had the Eagles and they could've lost to the Cowboys. There will be many closer calls than last night as we advance each week, and it wasn't that bad, really. I don't believe Miami ever had the ball AND the lead., and it's only when the enemy can open up a two-score lead that you begin to sweat a bit. Otherwise, you figure Josh Allen will tie it or take the lead, whatever the case may be. And he did.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but it's interesting to think that a Jets loss in Tampa and a Patriots loss to Pittsburgh this weekend would leave the Bills, after the 3-0 start, with two 0-3 teams and one 1-2 team in their division. It would take an epic fail on their part to not take their 6th consecutive division title. The two 0-3 teams having already lost to the Bills are effectively 4 games behind in any divisional race. Good luck overcoming that. -

We didn’t attack down the field likely because Brady and Josh saw more effective ways to attack. I think people are too obsessed with “down the field”. Does that mean long bomb type attacks? Because the last time I looked at data in that those kinds of passes accounted for about 1-2% of pass plays. Right now the run and short passing game are working well. When teams try to take that away you’ll see what happens. Right now we have a very effective offense. -

I often don't know how to feel about Bernard. Obviously he's made tons of big plays for the team and is the sole Defensive Captain. Certainly we don't beat Baltimore in the playoffs without him. On the other hand I often see him being washed out of plays too. Then you see Tyrell Dodson out there thumping people and wish he was still a Bill. Ultimately we have no choice but to take the bad with the good with Bernard. Regarding Tre White, against the 4.29 Tyreek Hill and the 4.37 Jaylen Waddle, Tre more than held his own. Those two combined for just 88 yards on 10 catches. In week 1 Tre didn't play and in week 2 he played 26 snaps (55%). Last night he played 100% of the 61 snaps. Tre was good against the run and had a tackle for a loss. He had a pass defensed. Tre looked better than Benford last night. With Strong looking promising and Hairston waiting in the wings, the revamped Bills CB group looks MUCH better than last year. Kudos to McBeane. Absolutely. Tre knows this defense like the back of his hand. He gets guys lined up correctly pre-snap. It'll be awhile before Hairston's a starter for the Bills and that's a bonus. -
Both Rookie DT's look really good for Rookies.
