Sean McDermott is a disciple of Andy Reid. Oddly enough, Andy Reid was the NFL's poster-child for 20 years for "almost" getting there and never being able to get over the hump. He started coaching the Eagles in 2001 and then moved to the Chiefs in 2013. In that 20 year period (before he finally won the Super Bowl), Reid's teams had 14 playoff appearances, 9 division titles, 6 championship game appearances and one loss in the big game. Wow. So what was the big change that happened in 2019? The answer you will get from 99% of football fans will probably be Patrick Mahomes, and they aren't necessarily wrong. But it should also be pointed out that Steve Spagnuolo was hired in 2019 as the team's Defensive Coordinator. Yes, the same guy who created the defense that stopped the undefeated Patriots way back on 2007 has also helped the Chiefs win all three of their Super Bowls. Hard to find it just a coincidence. Personally, I don't think Spagnuolo is a significantly better defensive coach than McDermott. The numbers from year to year certainly don't support that. But I do think Spag's strategy (particularly when it comes to pressuring QBs) just seems to work better in the postseason against the NFL's best passers. While Spagnuolo is more about creating chaos with blitzes, McDermott's strategy has always been to rely more on confusing coverage packages, and then pressure with four guys. And it just hasn't worked. Last year, the Bills defense started a gradual shift into being more versatile. More man coverage. Occasionally breaking out of the Nickel. The next step will be to bring more blitzes, and create more chaos along the front with stunts and shifts. There have been some reports out of training camp that we are doing exactly that. I hope it translates into the postseason. As many of us have been stating for 2-3 years, this team won't take the next step until we can significantly increase our pressure on the QB in the playoffs.

Yup I wonder if this is the case. Virgil showed enough and probably wants a crack at a 53 instead of the PS and knew his shot here was very slim . Wonder if they did him a solid

Any idea what that interaction was? Someone taking notes for a post game speech or presser? I assume that’s only a preseason interaction?

The drought era Bills were just depressing to watch. Say what you will about Beane but even if you don't like his moves they at least make sense. 2022 this team was coming off having massive interior offensive line issues. They go out in 2023 and they sign Connor McGovern a starting caliber guard, they take a chance on David Edwards as a veteran reclamation project to add depth, and they draft what many consider to be the best pure guard in the draft in Torrence. The Bills in drought era would have signed two low end guards and drafted a player in round 5 and called it a day spending a 2nd round pick on a safety or some other lesser area of need. The Spiller pick and trading away Lynch is the most incomprehensible move of the drought. The whole 2010 draft set the Bills back 3-4 years because they could have in round 1 drafted an offensive linemen they were so desperate (Mike Iupati or Pouncey even Anthony Davis was productive for several seasons) and then taken Gronk in round 2 while still having Lynch in the backfield. The only draft that was worse was possibly 2006 where they could have had Ngata and Mangold and instead came up with Whitner and McCargo.

Fabulous AI. Push play.

I would be willing to make a wager that no coach in NFL history has lost more playoff games his offense has scored 24 points in. He might be tied, but almost certain he holds that distinction. It's not common. We have 3 in franchise history and 4 with Allen.

Is Nelson Ceasar that guy who shot all of those protected owls from his car on the highway?

Well thankfully Josh's career isn't over yet? Keep the faith Josh's time will come...

I agree. Maybe it's because we already 'know' the players so well but it does feel a bit going through the motions. I mean I'll happily watch it because it's the Bills but I have to say I prefer the embedded episodes. That's what Hard Knocks was always about for me, seeing fringe guys trying to make it. Seeing where they live, their relationships, how hard it is to make it in the NFL, all the work they put in even though the odds are stacked against them. I think it helps when it's a team you don't know much about For us we kind of know which guys have a little chance of making an impact, but for fans of another team who only know Josh Allen and guys like Cook they'll be a bit more intrigued by a guy like Hamler

Impropriety at the Clinton Foundation

Please don't get sidelined with C3's "whatabout" The thread is about the Clinton foundation corruption. He cannot address it so he throws out a squirrel -
They aren't going to eat Samuel or Moore dead cap just to try to get them back on the PS. Their dead cap would be 8.6m or 2.5m vs Shavers $3,500.
