Did not say that they rolled this out that well, but most of this was done in the off-season. The only change now is Bell for Walker. I assume they feel Butler is better than Walker at RT. Or at least that any marginal difference is not worth $5M.

 

Recall--the line sucked last year. So now we need to keep these guys? Why?

 

We overpaid for Walker and Dockery. but now we are lost without them? Why?

 

Let's just see what happens. I don't think this team is that good, but at least they are trying to shake things up.

Most professional sports organizations blow it up during the offseason, and then impliment a plan of rebuilding/reorganization. They don't don't it days before the season begins.

Umm...that WAS the plan, or did you not take note of the FA signing of Hangartner and two first-day draft picks on OL starters? The riskiest part of the plan was hoping Walker would take to LT. He didn't, but thankfully Bell was waiting in the wings.

 

4 of the 5 OL starters on Monday will have been practicing/playing together since the first week of training camp, and Bell received numerous reps at LT with the "ones" throughout camp as well.

 

This is hardly "blowing up" the plan days before the season begins.

Turk was given a chance to revive this offense with the addition of T.O. and a more experienced Trent. But instead the starting offense SEVERELY regressed, and the offense blew last year, so if you can take last years terrible passing game and make it worse then you wont have a job very long. Plus, he and DJ were not on the same page this off season on how to fix the offense.

 

Turk complains DJ wants it too simple, yet fails to realize his QB isnt capable yet of handling anything other than simple. He cant read coverages, doesnt make adjustments, doesnt see the field real well, and holds the ball too long. More importantly though, Trents confidence seems clearly shaken still going all the way to mid season last year. Well guess how you fix a rattled QB with shaky confidence...you SIMPLIFY the offense, get him some success and rebuild that poise.

 

So, Turk forced his own way out when he wouldnt get on board with the direction of the team...Given how much better the team looked in practice than gameday, its not surprising it didnt happen until he blew all preseason. Walker was going to be kept all along until the young Bell beat him out...so he became expendable.

 

So we didnt "wait" until just before the season, its just circumstances changed and they took bold moves to make this team better, and honestly, we will be better for it becuase Turk blew and Walker was average at best.

Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense. I'm not even sure who won the starting RB job in NE - Fred Taylor or Maroney, but let's say it's Fred Taylor. Do you see the Patriots just releasing Maroney because he makes a little money and isn't going to start? No, you don't. Because a halfway intelligently run team knows about depth, about injuries, situations, etc. that call for the team to have reserves with some level of experience that can perform in place the starters when needed.

 

Yes, yes, I hear you about to say that Walker "sulked" and wasn't going to be any use, but the Patriots are disappointed in Maroney too. Yet he's under contract and gives them bits and pieces of utility here and there when they need him. He's not the starter but should be, but that doesn't mean he should just be unceremoniously cut from the team.

Fair points, but I didnt say it wasnt a $$$ move, in fact, I am sure it is, and a good one. They brought back a guy for far less money who isnt that much worse than the overpaid guy who would sulk and be a problem all year.

The guy was an intern with the Florida Marlins who happened to get a very bright idea to move training camp to St John Fisher. Now because of that he has the keys to the car.

 

Or maybe this was calculated all along. They knew they were going to be bad this year, but they don't want to admit it to the fans so they can sell out the season. So they sign TO and say everything is all right, give the fans some hope that LW can fill the void. Then they change a whole bunch of crap right before the season starts, so they still have the tickets sold, but now in fact are going in the right direction. It's win-win for them and another sh------- year for us.

I know you're on a crusade against Edwards, but while he does have flaws, "holding onto the ball too long" isn't one of them. In fact, he gets rid of the ball quickly, as anyone who watches their game can see. For your argument to be credible, you should focus on what he really does do wrong rather than resort to carpet bombing him with every criticism under the sun.

Well after the 2-8 finish to last year, everyone said they needed to blow up things up and start over. Well they have. A new guy at each OL position(4 totally new), TO, and a new coodinator.

 

Now folks say we are a laughing stock for blowing it up. What do you want--change or stay the same?

 

What difference does it make anyway? At least there is hope that these guys can get better. And if they don't then Jauron is gone, which is what everyone wants anyway.
