I remember going when they opened it. It was a HUGE deal. They really fixed up the area in the years since they built it as well. The Thruway Mall was a dog and it was already going under when they built the Galleria. Although I do miss Chess King. There is a Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Tops Market where the Thruway Mall used to be. Cheektowaga gets things done though. How can a huge expansion with new stores & restaurants be a bad thing? They also opened a new public golf course near the airport that's supposed to be as nice as a private course. It's a shame they had the casino stolen from them by Buffalo (and Buffalo even managed to F that up beyond belief). Progress is a good thing. Oh yeah.......Cheektowaga Central SUCKS! Plus now Congel has not paid the Canal Corp a $1.8M payment that was due last Thursday for work in the Inner Harbor, because "they need to talk over details about an agreement". The school district basically sold the land for peanuts. They could have held out for a lot more and probably have financed the new wing they built a few years ago. I remember seeing the town hall packed with people against the mall. If you're that close tio the mall you probably lived off of Nokomis. The mall wanted to take the park and add an entrance off of Nokomis, putting a massive amount of traffic on residential streets. Their "remedy" would be to build a park behind the Como Mall, where the hospice is now. That would really help the people off of George Urban. Regardless, Pyramid has and remains the largest property tax payer in the town. I, for one, like the mall and am happy for the new investment. And Fez, if you think the Cheescake is overpriced, where do you normally go and eat. Crimminy, we go to the cheesekake, kids split a meal, my wife and I split an appetizer and entree(usually cant finish the entree), out of there for less than $40 (without booze of course). People flock to that place. The taxes are high in WNY because the morons here keep voting for the wrong people. It doesn't have to do with the mall. The Developmental Center servespeople (primarily adults) with developmental disabilities (mental retardation, head injuries, etc) They do not have pyschiatric (mental illnes) problems. (at least not at a rate any higher than the general public. A small point perhaps, but as I worked with people with developmental disabilitiesfor while some years back, it is a distinction worth making. Lunch for 2 costing around $30 sounds about right. It's a great restaurant but you do have to pay more. I think it's worth it. It's just not a place you can go to all the time.
