Ch.2 News just now

Recommended Posts

Sorry no link because it was just aired on WGRZ. There may be something later.

Tom Golisano was asked if he was interested in owning the Bills someday. He said while he was not thnking about it, since he considers himself part of the Buffalo community, he would be very interested in "finding out" what is going on, and be involved in the process of keeping the Bills in WNY.

Not exactly earth-shattering news, but an indication Tom will be in the mix when Ralph's time comes.

Tom Golisano is going to kill Ralph Wilson!?!

Good to hear. He saved the Sabres and it would be great if he could do it again for the Bills if they get to that point.

Great...now Ch.7 is promoting a segment with Vic Carucci saying the Bills could wind up in L.A.! Is it a real story or just fear-mongering? How could they even suggest the Bills moving when New Orleans can never support the Saints???

Okay...Vic Carucci says the Bills will always be on a short list of teams mentioned as relocation candidates. (Gee, ya think?) If they leave, it would be in 3-5 years. Carucci says he's not sue what the state could do to help the Bills enough to be viable.

A new stadium is brought up. The knock against RWS is a lack of luxury suites. Hey, RWS could be all-suites, but who would buy 'em???

Source...Goliasano to buy up all Luxury Suites at the New downtown and sadly, domed stadium... more later.

Sorry but a domed stadium just makes sense.  Forget sentimentality because it could happen that instead of being nostalgic for the days of open-air games, we'll all be nostalgic for the days when the Bills USED to be in Buffalo.

653525

Of course, we could as easily end up being just as nostalgic for those days in a domed stadium as in an open-air one.

The problem isn't the stadium, the problem is that Buffalo's an economically depressed backwater. Building a domed stadium won't fix that - it might make it worse, if they have to find new tax revenue to fund the new stadium, and make the market less viable than more.

The best plan is probably to let the Bills move. Professional football is a luxury WNY can't afford...like art museums, or a symphony orchestra, or libraries...

 Too bad the guy's a complete assbag. He along with the other 6 guys that own everything downtown will want to control all rights and not fork out a dime. Might as well have Ralph keep rolling through animatronics, like the hall of presidents @ Disney World. The Sabres will win in spite of him.

I was just trying to say that IF they were to take the plunge and build a new stadium, a domed one would have to be the way to go. And making it more family-friendly would also have to be the plan.

I dare say more people in WNY benefit from the Bills than those other things. Beer at an art museum, symphony, or in the library doesn't go over too well.

Yes he did, (Not kill poor Ralphy) saved the Sabres I mean, but they need Biron in net so they can carry it to the next level. Why people believe Miller is better than Biron is beyond me. :P but wrong forum, so we won't go there.

This is the first negative I have heard about Golisano...do you care to expound? Or are you just being negative, because it is hard not to?

I am sure that anyone with as much money as Golisano has made some enemies along the way...doesn't always mean he is in the wrong. Personally, I see him as our best hope of keeping the Bills in Buffalo, and that being very good for WNY.

And I dare say that if a city can't afford libraries, it has no business funding a stadium for a pro sports team.

653536

no offense, but that's a little misleading. prior to the budget cutbacks, Erie County had the most libraries, per capita, of any community in North America. this was reported extensively during the county budget fiasco. a declining population couldn;t continue to support all those libraries.

And again...how, then, can they support a pro football team?

Do you think that the departure of the Bills would be:

1) Good for WNY residents?

2) Good for the NFL?

3) Good for the state of NY?

Looking at it simply:

1- bad

2- probably good

3- no effect, outside of WNY!

When I lived in New York, and again when I was visiting New Orleans years later, I was told by two different people, in two different sports settings (a sports bar, and a sports apparrell shop) "I have never met anyone who is a Bills fan before" (in New York!!!), and "I almost forgot that Buffalo had an NFL team" (in New Orleans!!!!!!!!)

Probably lots of people if the team can put a competitive team on the field. If this is all that we're going to get, who even cares about single game tickets.

Since poor attendance is not a real issue for the Bills, what would a domed stadium do to improve the Bills chances of staying in Buffalo. Just curious.

A domed stadium could be used for more than just 10 games a year.  In other words, it's a stadium for MORE than just the Bills to use/own.

653656

I see where it MIGHT help WNY by being available for other events (not really, though as I doubt Buffalo is turning down big events in February that are bigger than HSBC Center can handle)...but, how does it help the Bills stay in Buffalo?

For the Biils to stay in Buffalo they will probably need a new stadium...that I buy. Some may decide the only way to build a stadium is to make it domed, thereby increasing it's ability to be used during the winter for non-Bills events. Realistically, this will probably just take money away from HSBC and other venues, IMO. And, call me crazy (you're doing it anyway, so what the hell) but I think a domed stadium would actually hurt the Bills attendance in the long run.

I dont know all about the economics of it, since I don't live there but would it be viable to do what kc is doing/wants to do. Make renovations to improve the current stadium, and add a rolling roof? I ask cause I see people talking about building a new stadium, and well Arrowhead is just as old as Ralp Wilson Stadium if not older so just curious....

If they were to build a new stadium, I'd like to see wider areas arond the concession stands for walking. That's one thing I noticed from having been at Indy, Cincy, and Miami. When trying to get around, pre-game, between 1/4's haltime, and post game, you're constantly having to bob and weave your way through the crowds at RWS.

We already have done 75 million in renovations. KC is not doing the rolling roof thingy last I heard.

If they build a domed stadium I would cry. Half of the experience of what makes being a Bills fan special, is freezing your butt off, screaming, and watching the opposing teams shutter in the bitter cold. While we wear no shirts, sing "Let it Snow", and take it all in. Thats what playing in Buffalo is all about. I seriously would say that I may not buy a Bills ticket again if I have to watch them indoors. I would just stay home.

To those who resent the idea of taxpayer money going to keeping the Bills in WNY -- give me a freakin' break. You are among the highest taxed people in the country and what do you have to show for it? A growing economy - nope. Rapidly increasing property value - nope. Higher paying jobs - nope. Top-notch infrastructure - nope. Corrupt politicians and wasted dollars - bingo. At least the taxpayers would have something to show for their money if the Bills stay in town.

Come on. Think about it. Buffalo, with a domed stadium, could become the SUPERBOWL MECCA of the NFL. What with the allure of Niagra Falls...and the....and the uhhh....well we can boast about....well....we could be a poor mans' Detroit.

C'mon, they will have a Bass Pro shop. Thats right I said a BASS PRO SHOP. Buffalo is going to be a big name player soon being slightly overshadowed by NY and LA. Oh yeah, then theres the Casino and the Waterfront, and the Twin Span bridges to Fort Erie where they have the Race Track. Its only a quick drive to Erics former favorite hang out, The Sundowner.

They could be the Poor mans Detroit, we just need a white rapper from Buffalos version of 8 mile to make it big and a long haired white wanna be wrapper who can't decide on a type of music to play to hype the city. Oh yeah, they would also need to be the founder of a popular type of music to

I thought Golisano had ties to Rochester. If a new stadium is deemed necessary buy some pasture off the T-way west of Rochester and build it there. Or even close to Six Flags.

Expand the regional concept from the pre-season to the real season and leave the cesspool behind.

I just cannot imagine Buffalo without the Bills.

The Bills are an integral part of the community -- I dare say much more so than most sports franchises and their communities. There are a few other examples such as Green Bay.

If the Bills were to leave, it just would not be the same.

Not declare war, you douche, just not totally kissing his ass like everyone else. Somebody has to pay the taxes if the franchise changes hands. It might not be worth for the other douch (Golisano) to buy the team if the market isn't there. You think there's not an outside chance that he's not entirely thrilled with purchasing the Sabres. But that would screw up your fairy tale, wouldn't it? Speculation is soooo much fun isn't?

He was delighted with buying the Sabres, unitl he had to go to meetings about "downtown stuff" (all you need to know!), and deal with guys like your dad!
