I don't know if anyone else in this forum is like me at this point and comes here as much (maybe more) for Bills news than discussion... but the fact that the other thread hasn't changed the title to acknowledge Slay ain't coming and we will now have an open roster spot that will not be filled by a player we've had on the team developing for years now because he was claimed by a Conference rival playoff contender is a little frustrating.

Yea that's a bad look for Beane. Was Ingram a critical piece? No. But did he provide some useful depth? Yep. Should you throw that away for a 34 year old? No.

I think people are just piling on Beane for this. I like that he went and tried to improve an area of the roster that in previous years had failed us in the playoffs. You don’t like the result and therefore dump it all on Beane. 
 

If it came January and we get torched because a guy like Benford went down, you know people wold have been clamoring for “how did we not sign slay - look at how amazing Howie Roseman is”

 

He swung and missed, attempting to improve, which resulting in losing an end of roster depth player. There are plenty of reasons to question and rag on Beane, but this is just low handing fruit IMO.

It was reported in Pittsburgh that Slay wanted to be a starter and asked to be released.  Was Bean unaware of what was in the freaking papers here!

I would imagine that if Slay didn't want to come here because they had starters in place he would have said NO but he didn't so then there's that .

Yep, this is all on Beane. MMcDermott has proven time and again that he has little concern for corners and focuses mainly on wide receivers.

I reject this premise.

Couldn’t we ask “why has so and so been on the roster” about others too?  Ingram has been here for three years and in that time, there’s definitely been times where he could have stepped up and made himself more indispensable, given the problems we’ve had there recently (Elam bust, Belford injuries, Hairston injury), and what did he do to seize his opportunity?

Depends on your thoughts on whether the “window” is still open, has closed, or is still cracked. If Slay was someone you signed to “go for it”, then yes, you do what you need to do … plenty of Ingram’s come along every year (I’m not saying Slay was the missing piece, mind you)
