Blocking AND receiving skill.   Shavers has great hands, he's shown that throughout training camps for three years and obviously his TD grab was not a simple catch in that wind.   We've got some stone hands guys like Knox and Coleman, Shavers isn't one of them.

Shavers will be here at least through 2026 (as he's under contract through next year) and will get a jersey every week as a bottom of the depth chart WR for his blocking and Special Teams alone.

 

He really doesn't provide much as a WR (the Tampa Bay game had more to do with them having a *terrible* Pass D) - but he does what you want out of a 5th WR. Which is play Teams and Block your tail off.

I just hope when Kincaid comes back Brady doesn't forget this and just do his normal feeding of Kincaid to forget about Knox, Shavers, Hawes, Ty, Davis and others as he has this season .

It’s a huge advantage for an offense. Knox, Hawes, Shavers, Shakir all had good days blocking on Duo/ISO. When you can guarantee your back a 1 on 1 vs a corner in the run game you love that match up as an offense.

 

Duo in general is such a dirty scheme anyway, especially when you have a back like Cook who sets up blocks and has the quickness to get back outside. The whole scheme is designed to make that interior backer wrong no matter what. Push the play side to make it commit and then bounce it all the way back where you now have numbers and a 1 on 1 with a corner. It’s why it’s been a staple of the offense since Dorsey took over.

It was Gabe before that.  "Why does gabe play more than sanders and brown?" was frequently a point of contention and it was blocking back then.

A cheap depth WR who can play special teams.  He shouldn't be playing this much, and ideally there are 5 options ahead of him in 2026.  I also don't mind bringing in competition from a similar player. At the same time - good blocks should earn you some routes too.  

 

Shavers cap hit next year is 1M, but there's no shortage of similar special teams players who might offer a more rounded player offensively.  These types of Hollins guys are always pretty available in the 1-2M AAV range, and I would suggest bringing one in to compete for that back of the roster spot.

And if that is blocking; which #14 does extremely well, I'm all for it. 

My thing is, if they really want that Lombardi then what are you willing to do for it. Is your legacy going to be; "I played on a almost got there" or is it going to be "I played on the World Champion Buffalo Bills". Time to get grass on that uniform, do the ugly work, and eat beef all day.
