So What Was the Deal on the Penalty After the Pitt TD?

Personal foul for unsportsmanlike conduct on Metcalf after Pittsburgh TD. Ref goes to McDermott. Penalty will be enforced on the kickoff.  Nope. Can’t be enforced on the kickoff. So Boswell kicks a 33 yard extra point instead of a 48 yard extra point. And Pitt kicks off as if no penalty whatsoever had been called.  But wait. Stenatore says it can be enforced on the kickoff!  What a cluster****.  Can anyone make sense of any of this?

I think the penalty happened later than gene initially thought so they could enforce it on the kickoff or something to that effect.  Gene offered an explanation later on in the broadcast

It was enforced on the KO.  The kicker kicked from the 20, but apparently, coverage is still allowed to line up in the same place.

My favorite penalty was the "taunting" penalty by Pittsburgh on a play where Buffalo scored a TD!

 

Who is dumb enough to taunt when they just got scored on??😂😂

That just does not seem like a penalty.  Any kicker can hit the landing zone. They should move it 15 yards back from the end result of the kickoff.

As much as that sucked I like that they fix things that are clear and obvious on replay.

The one I would like an explanation on, was the one where Pitt got the ball at the 25. 

 

Seemed like a similar situation where the Bills were penalized but then intentionally kicked the ball out of bounds.  Romo said the rule would be revised at the end of the year.

Should've called it unsportsmanlike conduct. Refs call it wrong thing and dudes catching hell from his own fanbase because of it lol

The official penalty for kicking out of bounds is that the ball is placed 25 yards from where you kicked. Normal kickoffs are from your 35 so that puts the ball at the opponent's 40 after the penalty. However when you get a 15 yard penalty enforced on the kickoff you get to kick from the 50, so kicking out of bounds puts the ball at the opponent's 25 instead.

He was just saying things as opposed to admitting he didn’t understand the rule.  
 

That answer was hilarious… “well what ha-happened was” type energy.  
 

They’d have to change the landing zone in order for the penalty to work the way he was thinking.
