What they should try to do is schedule byes around the Thursday games. No playing on 4 days rest. Only teams coming off a bye play Thursdays. As much as possible, of course. Can't have that in week 2 obviously.

And they'd never do it, but it would be great to go back to 16 games. For someone who's a bit ocd when it comes to numbers, 16 is perfect.

16 games should be the standard.

Nothing like a 1 pm home opener at rich stadium knowing you had monday off!

Always enjoyed the sick day call-ins guys after home games vowing they were sick, not hungover.

Adding the 17th game and the 7th playoff team was nothing more than a money grab.

1 team with a bye is stupid.  I don't care what anyone says.

They will soon go to 18 games with 8 teams in the playoffs.  You watch and see.

The league will go to 18 games and continue to push the envelope as long as we keep watching and they keep making more money. What they SHOULD do will never happen, and this will continue to be a game of attrition every season.

This ^^^^ money rules so there will be no changes

The rash of injuries on this team and around the league in general is making the game less entertaining.  Thursday night games, overseas games, flex scheduling, and in 2021 the move to 17 games has made a naturally dangerous game even less safe for players.  Money rules everything in the NFL as owners are not ruling out an eventual move to an 18 game season.  Should the league rethink its approach to growing the game or should things stay the same?  What are your thoughts?

Re think? I dont think the league will be fun again until we get to 100 teams. Full baseball schedule. 182 games.

Baseball has that wussy best of 3 & 5 to start first 2 rounds though. Take the hockey format for those.

Superbowl should last a month. Best of 15. 15 countries, 7 continents. None of us will be happy until weve all had family members Moonlight in NFL games.

You don’t like injuries.  What evidence is there. That Thursday games or games played over seas or flex scheduling is the cause of that?

answer is no. Because all of those things generate revenues

I think the NFL is getting close to a tipping point. Between the streaming push, Thursday games, odd kickoff times, and the rising injury issues, the old magic is fading.

What made the NFL great was being able to flip on Sunday night, watch two random teams, and still be entertained. That’s happening less.

And honestly—who thinks a Saturday Wild Card game on Peacock is good long-term? I’ll normally watch every WC game, but not on a random Thursday or a streaming-only peacock service.

I understand the gripe about the WC, but its the least of all the issues for me. At least its a wild card game ill wanna watch. Especially on a Saturday when college is done, and I dont have to work the next day.

$10? The more ridiculous part to me is missing having everything available in one spot. Nfl Sunday ticket should absolutely have access to every game.  What an F-U to those fans paying $500 lol

Anyways, I dont care if they change to putting different halfs on different platforms lol im still watching, and I ain't paying.

Go back to the first two seeds getting a bye. Just too watered down with the extra WC. That 7th seed usually gets blown out. I know it will never happen.

If they go to 18 games, owners better be ok with QB's making 80 million per year in a few years.

Thursday games are and always will be an atrocity.  And the NFLPA should be ashamed for accepting it, just as money hungry as the owners

Yes, it’s always money first.

On the list of things I don’t like about overseas games is compromising on the field that they play on. I don’t think they would let NFL teams have fields that bad for a full schedule, but I guess it’s good enough for a game or two a year. Von Miller said the game at Tottenham was the worst field he ever played on.  I know some other venues have had bad reports as well. If you’re going to do it, do it RIGHT. $$$>Player safety for the NFL.

Going to 18 games (even with another bye) will only make things worse.  The starters don't play preseason as it is.

Cutting out preseason for more in-season games is too much for these guys.

Add playoffs and the total season is now pushing 7 months.  It's too violent of a sport for these guys to keep healthy.

Dressing a few more low-impact players is not going to drop the snap count for the key starters at all.

Trubisky is not going to spell Josh Allen not will any other important player.

All this for an extra 2 weeks when?  In the summer before Labor Day or do we play games outdoors throughout January and into February.

@Augie is right.  It's just about money and IMO it is diluting the sport.

CB, you have solid points, but it’s going to happen whether we like it or not.  I like Augie’s idea the schedulers make every effort given two byes to have before the TR night games so they actually get quite a bit more time before and after.  Those are concessions the owners could make for the almighty dollar.

Augie, agreed, but when they go an 18 game schedule (probably with the new CBA), they need to adjust the game day dress to 53 out of maybe 55, and will need to have a second bye.  Obviously one earlier in the season and one later.  It will make the overall season longer, but they can continue to shave preseason games to maybe only one with some competitive practices.  It means we could be starting the NFL Season on Labor Day.  Given theSB will be deeper into February, they would have to prioritize even more the warm weather climates, or domes.

Besides the owners don’t care what the avg. fan thinks, just the revenue generation, and revenue streams.  It’s not like every other business on the planet doesn’t operate the same way.  There is no right and wrong in the equation, just what is most likely expected.

They used to start on Labor day back in the 90's and prior.  Recall playing the SB too on around Jan 13th

I forgot about that history, but you're right.  I guess us middle aged guys need to stick together.
