After a 41 to 34 win against canisius in the Monsignor Martin championship game(which Sean McDermott was in attendance) they have earned their spot in the New York State Catholic championship game

Against Iona prep the number one team in New York state

St Francis has never won a New York state Catholic championship at the highest level

They have their chance now against AAA Iona prep

With a high-powered offense I think they could get it done versus the gaels.. they're going to need to put up close to 40 to get it done versus AAA powerhouse Iona prep

Good luck to St Francis in the state championship in a few days

Yes athol springs

There's a lot of guys on this board who probably grew up going to Catholic schools in Western New York whether Joe's canisius timon Cardinal O'Hara Francis etc

Buffalo's a small community so always got to root for the hometown

716, thanks for sharing sincerely。I’m class if 85, my brother 81, all of my cousins graduated from there, and back then we had a solid football team, but our best sports were wrestling (myself among others better than me), and baseball.  St. Francis is in my heart as a lot if fine memories.  My younger cousins shared a homeroom due to the spelling of their names from Polian, Telesco, Caldwell, and finally same classroom as Daboll.  Back then we were divided up by Honors, CP1, 2, and 3.  Homeroom was simply by name as they didn’t want some kids to feel elitist due to academic performance.

I know it’s not Bills, but when I occasionally read this stuff, it reminds me of my childhood, so again thanks 716.

I remember going to basketball camp at St. Francis in the 70's. This is where the waves from Lake Erie crash over route 5 during windstorms. Foits, Hoaks and the Bayview Beach Club (I remember seeing John Valby there).

My mom and Dad went to Hoak’s every Friday.  I’d beg them for an extra fish fry, and normally they sent us a cheese pizza (lent), but once a month they’d bring myself and one of my siblings a fish fry to split.

My dad would go to a place right near Hoaks to get us fish fry every Friday. I grew up in Lakeview.

Congrats to East Aurora boys soccer Class A State Champions. A historic moment as the smallest school in the tournament (500) defeats the largest school in Rye (1,200).

Congrats!  I played soccer for OPHS in the 80s and always found East Aurora a tough opponent.

It just may have been the best day of my life, but I will not tell my daughter that :) The most emotional set of feelings I have ever had in my life. Not for one second did I let myself believe they had a chance, and then when they went up 2-0 with 17 minutes to go....I started to believe. Those were the longest 17 minutes of my life, and for my son to have that core memory for the rest of his life is all I thought about with each passing minute.

As a Joe’s alum, half of me hates to see Frannies doing well while our football program has been declining steadily since Chad Kelly graduated.

Good for them though, hope they can pull it out for WNY.

Good on them. As a feral teen, I was enrolled and boarded at St Francis for the first two years of HS. I believe "sent away" was the preferred nomenclature at the time, but I don't recall anyone else there in my circumstances, mostly well-off families with ivy-league hopes for their kids. There were about 30 kids who boarded at the time. I worked as a janitor after school to help pay for tuition. Lived down the hall from the gym. Way back when Dan Neaverth JR and David attended.

Stayed out of trouble there mostly, but alas they were not able to make me a good catholic.
