But on obvious passing downs, they've been pulling Poyer off the field anyways. Today was almost a 50/50 split amongst the Jordan's (34 Poyer, 26 Hancock to Bishop's 60).

 

So I don't think the light going on is all a credit to Poyer's on field work with him, as he's only out there just over half the time. And I can't imagine Budda Baker is a terrible communicator.

 

My concern, much like yours, is just we don't have enough there. We're one injury away from having to play Poyer on 100% of snaps. There were a couple times today that I felt the 2025 version of Poyer hurt us. And while I think Hancock could become a guy for us, I don't think he's ready to be the full time starter as a Rookie. 

 

I just think Baker alongside Bishop would be a massive upgrade that could really help lock down the Secondary. Though at this point, DT and a WR who can separate are probably bigger needs.

 

If we can get Budda Baker for a reasonable price (a day 3 pick or two) I am all in. I had a first round grade on him coming out have always loved him. But unless it is that kind of relatively cheap deal for a proven stud on a bad team I'd ride with what we have.

That seems like the toughest position to integrate into the defense, I don't see it.

Is there anyone else out there about the same a Hoecht is kind of a all around type of guy that they can use in different ways with in the scheme of the D ??

His base salary for the year is $1.255M so I believe he'd count around half of that against our cap... We'd have him under contract for 2026 too at just a $5.7M cap hit. You could theoretically trade for him and Shaheed without having to do a lot of cap gymnastics.

I would take a hard run at Olave and lesser extent Shadeed.  I would ask Washington about Frankie Luvu.  Little more linebacker than pass rusher but imo is best as a blitzer/pass rusher.

Call me crazy but I like Bishop with Poyer/Hancock.  Getting Hancock up to speed adds speed and versatility the defense needs.  
 

DT comes down to the status of Jones and Sanders going forward. If both can return this month I think I hold off.

Yeah , Hoecht was the biggest reason for the great pass rush the last two weeks. He was helping to free everyone else up besides Whst he was doing himself. 
 

I don’t see how you are going to get another guy like him at the trade deadline, especially with no cap space.

The Bills D coaches need to get in the lab

 

For the first 6 weeks, they were eating for Hoect and I think just going with what they have shown before. 

 

Now that Hoect is done, they gotta figure out what to do the rest of the year

 

Heard a decent suggestion on locked on..put Rousseau in the Hoect role and have Jackson set the edge. 

 

Either way, I hope they tinker with players and see if they can play that same type of D we have seen the last two weeks with current and/or traded personel

I like this idea. Rousseau has experience rushing from the inside too, going all the way back to Miami. Beane either has to bring in another player, or it’s Landon Jackson’s time; he has to start gaining experience and confidence. This is a SEC pass rusher who whooped the Patriots number one overall pick when they faced off in college. Gotta be something in there.

What makes Hoecht unique is he has athleticism but was a DT in college and is able to win with power inside. Having smaller guys using speed makes it easier to wash them and create a rushing or passing lane.  His presence in the lap makes a forward escape less likely or appealing.
