No doubt Gabe Davis had some great plays (e.g. Pittsburgh) and great games (e.g. KC).  He also disappeared for chunks of the season.  I loved him when he was turned on.

P.S. I just rewatched every Davis catch in the KC game...  So much fun seeing Josh throwing downfield.  Why can't Brady scheme like that?

What's this now?

Josh comment certainly leads to him playing…perhaps even taking all of Keon Coleman’s snaps

Coleman was still playing very late in last weeks blow out win. It also looked like he wasn't in very early. I think Coleman is a candidate to be inactive on gameday in the near future. Maybe not this week, but seeing him held out as a healthy scratch by Thanksgiving is definitely possible IMO.

Never understood the Gabe hate.

4th rounder. Nothing flashy.

Produced some decent moments in the regular season.

Balled out in that 13 seconds game.

Some of the guys we’ve all been guilty of gushing over in the yesteryears don’t even sniff Gabe’s jockstrap.

I think 13 has a chance to help us out if he is healthy and am not going to doubt him.

Go Gabe!

Not to mention in his last season he was injured a lot and when he played was banged up.

A fully healthy Gabe Davis is an asset to us imo, people talk about his drops but look around at our other WRs, apart from Shakir (who doesn’t appear to be as reliable as he was) there’s no one you feel confident about bringing in a contested catch, Gabe was awesome at it for a year or two, hopefully he’s matured a bit now too

As I have said in numerous threads since the off season, I'm not a Gabe fan and didn't want him back on the team. He has poor hands and whoevers fault it is, him and Josh just weren't on the same page too many times.

That said he needs to get on the roster and in games because our receiver room is so poor that he is probably our second best receiver (Shakir being best.) We need someone that can stretch the field and be a threat. He has proven he can do that. He has also shown he can get both feet in bounds on sideline catches. Something our other receivers seem incapable of doing.

It’s not that strange when you watch Coleman do footwork drills.  He literally goes knock-kneed every time he changes direction.  I remember seeing a video of Stefon Diggs running a similar drill a few years back and being blown away by his footwork.  Keon is the polar opposite of that.  He looks like a baby giraffe trying to run routes.

Ugh damn. My old crippled ass could probably pull off that footwork.

Keon seems like a really good run blocker to me so he’ll probably get a pretty long leash.  Obviously you can’t keep a guy like that around too long if he gives you nothing in the passing game though but I’d expect him to keep getting snaps this regular season at least.   Funny enough I feel like Gabe was kinda the same deal haha Gabe would honestly probably still be here on his first stint if there wasn’t a team that would overpay him

I don’t think fans take wr run blocking seriously but the bills definitely seem to…I don’t think it’s by chance they’ve had Gabe, Mack hollins and Keon the last few years

I do agree here. The value the Bills put of run blocking WRs may be higher than any other team. I do think they need to readjust their thinking a bit. With what Hawes brings to the table as well as Kincaid improving as a blocker running 2 or 3 TE sets is, I believe, our best group personnel wise. The trick is that those WRs that run block well HAVE to also be adept at getting open and catching the ball because if they aren't it tips off that a run play is coming when they are on the field. Gabe can do that. Mack did that. Keon struggles at it. Shavers struggles at that.

It wasn't just the drops, it was the bad routes and miscommunications with Allen that led to about half a dozen INTs his last season here.

We all knew the guy was never going to be a decent WR2, which is why we let him walk.

Maybe he can be a positive contributor in a smaller role this season

I think they let him walk because they didn’t want to pay (rightly) what he would have demanded (and got) in the open market.

if he’d been prepared to sign for 3m a year I don’t think he’d have ever left.

I also think he wasn’t healthy in his final season with us, and whilst that doesn’t excuse bad route running it also meant he didn’t have a chance to show us the good things he can do (and did in years previous) so people just remember him for being bad which I don’t think is entirely fair

One thing I find interesting about Gabe is that in the 4 years he was here, He was always in the league top 10 in yards per reception, and average depth of target. He averaged 16.5 yards per touch in those 4 years. Not sure after last year's injury he can create the same separation tho.

Yea I gotta think Hawes is far surpassing even what their expectations were..  if they knew they’d get Hawes the next year and he’d look this good this quick maybe they would’ve handled the Keon pick differently idk

why? He's 26

and that's interesting.   Gabe when utilized properly is a pretty solid WR IMO

he should be playing this week and receive a decent amount of targets....but we'll see

Over his time here I believe he was 2nd in the NFL in YPC over that timeframe

I remember it all...

- The limited route tree/bad route running

- The drops

- The times Gabe zigged and Allen threw a zag

- The stretches of the season he'd disappear

- The KC game

- The other big plays

- The hard work & team-first attitude

- The blocking

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see his mixed skillset making a profound difference in a Brady offense that doesn't seem to know how to use wideouts.

Is it not strange that essentially Davis and Coleman are for all intents and purposes similar players in terms of speed/body type but Davis consistently can separate on deep balls while Coleman has dudes stuck to him like super glue?

Actually yes, IR

As a WR4, he could make a major impact, IMO

Should fit in perfectly with all the other WR4's on the field.

Except Davis actually would fill a very useful role the others currently do not.

I would firmly take Palmer over Gabe, I would honestly take Samuel if healthy over Gabe, even Keon I think offers more. I would take Gabe if he's somewhat healthy over Moore and Shenault but I really don't think Gabe at this stage of his career represents the second best WR on the roster.

This plus getting stuck back on the PR at one point might have had something to do with his, shall we say, less than enthusiastic demeanor during McD's postgame speech.  He knows he's expected to be the WR1 (even though none of us think he can be), and playing in a blowout and being told to return a punt is some pretty vivid writing on the wall... especially in an organization that preaches that you earn what you get.  Good.  We'll see how he reacts from here on out.  My money is on him not responding, but I'd love to be wrong.

I watched every game with Davis in it, just like most here.

I feel like Gabe is a fairy decent upgrade from what we have, outside of Shakir and perhaps Palmer.  Plus he is the deep threat we're missing.

And i bet the Chiefs still have PTSD from that game.

I'd put him out there Sunday.  Even the potential of a deep threat can change the defensive reaction.

Personally hope he has a kick ass game.

Allen specifically saying  how much trust and faith he has in Gabe and "good to see him out there"  makes me pretty sure he will play

He should have a decent amount of targets too since Shakir is the only WR Allen seems confident throwing too
