That kind of behavior reminds me of my high school football coaches.

"No water for anyone, and take a lap!!!"

Good to see idiots like that were largely weeded out of youth coaching.

Daboll's act always reminded me of Chief Lutz, in 'Beverly Hills Cop 2'.

I'm not sure I agree with your take on Skattebo.  He came into the league as a 4th round nobody and surprised people with his fearless, gritty running style, intense personality, and production.  Best of all, he's got a fun sounding name.  Put it all together, and there's your 15 minutes.  I don't think being a Giant has a lot to do with it.

A nobody? Eh not really... He had some hype coming out of college. His speed at the combine is what caused him to drop to the 4th.

he did exactly that.  he was filmed ripping up the team doctor after he left the tent.

Daboll is an unusual moron--even for the Giants organization.

Yes, the Doctor in the suit was humiliated on camera, Daboll says he has apologized to him but for me no apology could suffice for being shown up like that publicly.

In the 90's I and other teammates would be put right back into full contact after clearly being concussed.  Nothing like being yelled at on a monday practice's tackling drills after a friday concussion.  Having an adult question your 16-17 year old manood.

At least it made the Drill Sergeants in basic training feel like decent humans in comparison.

I hear you.  He was a good college back but, still, getting drafted in the 4th round doesn't scream "Somebody!"

In any case, my point was that his NFL productivity so far, running style, and attitude - as well as a unique last name - are giving him a little pro hype right now that I think he'd get regardless of what team he was on.

yup--he apologized because he was caught on camera looking like an idiot.

Considering he looks like that every gameday, he should, by logic, apologize to his teams fans after every game.

A few years ago the Knicks had a guy named Jeremy Chin who had a hot streak and got 15 minutes of fame.  They even had a slogan “Chinsanity”.  Nobody even remembers him now.  Skattebo is the latest in this lineage.  If he weren’t playing for a NY team he’d be a big nothing.  Enjoy it while it lasts kid.

Including you - unless you intentionally butchered his name. For the record it was Jeremy Lin and Linsanity.

Lin, Chin, whatever, that’s the whole point.  In three years people will be saying “who was that Scooby Doo guy that everyone thought would be great?”. It’s a NY thing.  Everything blown out of proportion.  I’m old enough to remember when Anthony Volpe was the next Mickey Mantle.  Or even the Giants had Tommy Parmesan at QB.   It’s too bad about his injury though.  Hate to see that.

Your fixation on "NY things" is palpable. Equating Volpe to Mantle is a figment of your imagination.

Mantle? Do you really think folks were saying he was the next Mantle? And was Mantle even Eye-talian?

They were calling him”the future”.  Maybe the next Jeter?  Also see 2S Dominguez.  He was so good he needed a whole planet.  But he sucks.  Just like Scooby Doo, Chin and Parmesan.

He played 9 years in the NBA: averaged 11.6 pts / 4.3 assists / 2.8 rebounds per game and made around $65mm - Not a bad career

Hyping young players is nothing new or surprising. You do it yourself and I appreciate your insight on up and coming players. But you are WAY too fixated on Volpe for some reason.

And for the record, neither Lin or Tommy Cutlets were ever hyped before they had the small measures of success they had, they were both just fun stories for starving fan bases.

And your assertion that Skattebo sucks speaks more to your bias than anything else imo. From what I saw he was a productive player.

They weren’t. Ever. Nowhere. The hype was because he was local kid drafted in the first round and Yank fans are still trying to find their next Jeter.
