The collective freak out has more to do with the same themes showing up when we don’t play well.

-McD being too conservative

-middling play from boundary receivers

-defense getting gashed by a good rushing attack

-Beane not prioritizing xyz, etc.

Everyone has their issue to complain about and more than enough proof because the guys in charge have been here a long time. The fact we’re a SB contender every year (and still are) is the last thing anyone wants to talk about after a bad loss.

You're not wrong, but I think it's pretty apparent there are some major structural problems with the Bills right now.

I think most people are probably hyper aware of the coaching staff and their deficiencies, and are frustrated that there hasn't been any meaningful growth in those areas.

The season's not over, but there needs to be a lot of looking inward at the gameplanning over this bye.

Im hyper aware of our lack of talent as well.

Wow you sure have LOW expectations!

NFL Billionaire OWNERS just love guys like you. Well after contributing over $800 million dollars for the Pegula Playpen, WE dont have to take a breath as we OWN part of that team, regardless of whats on file in the County and State Office.

The rest of us have higher standards and want capitalistic equality for our investment, just like the PSA's. What was donated to the Pegula Foundation is an ALL time record of public tax dollars to a private Billionaire. WE WANT RESULTS

Wtf??? Low expectations????

All that literally matters is getting into the playoffs and starting to play the actually legitimately important games we can freak out about in a loss. The playoffs are an entirely new season and every other playoff team would fear the Bills, Chiefs and Ravens alone regardless of record and seeding simply because of who's under Center and previous playoff experience.

Take a breath for sure. The same issues that have caused the Bills to fall short will someday go away on their own. Stop coming to a fan message board to talk about it. You can instead talk your wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend, mother/father, children, boss, neighbor or your dogs ear off about it.

This freakin place is so awful after a loss. Obviously 2 in a row makes it way worse.

We're making the playoffs. That's all i care about. I would love the #1 seed, but I reject any notion we need it. McDermott's playoff road record may be 0-whatever, but that leaves out the fact that other than 2019 (when we weren't this iteration of the Bills and Josh Allen wasn't yet Elite), every road playoff loss came against the Chiefs.

That proves somehow we're doomed on the road against other teams in the playoffs??? Totally disagree.

I also think this crowning of NE is really premature.

Guys, before the season started looking at our schedule to start the season I think we all would have been happy with 5-1 at the bye. We're one game off that pace with a mass of circumstances I think we underestimated.

Let's just take a step back for a moment and look at what really happened against Atlanta.

Our #1 receiving weapon who's become Josh’s most reliable target and finally seemed ready to break into that "Elite TE" category was out.

Josh Palmer got injured on the 2nd series and I really think that killed our offensive passing game. It was clear to me the Bills were about to integrate him more into the offense. Even the commentators brought up the conversations they had with Bills coaches last week about Palmer's deceptive speed.

Daquan Jones suffered a calf injury during warmups leaving us with 3 active DTs, one of them being Ed Oliver coming off injury. (Side note: Deonne Walker is going to be awesome!) 3 DT rotation against Bijan and Algier??? Yikes!

Bernard gets hurt mid game and exits.

McGovern gets hurt and comes back clearly still hobbled.

Plus we have 2 important defensive reinforcements coming in right after the bye and hopefully Hairston can play soon after.

Say whatever about our remaining schedule but none of these teams are that scary. The Bengals will probably still be starting Flacco and their D sucks. The Eagles (as stated) look like the NFC version of us.

Kansas City is, in reality, an inconsistent up and down team we're going to play at home and is the one team on our schedule this team doesn't look past. Yes they got players back, but they lost last week against the Jags with Worthy and it baffles my mind the way Rashee Rice is talked about as an Elite WR who will inevitably unlock their offense. The guy has played 20 NFL games and surpassed 100 yards a whopping 4 times. I'm not saying he won't be good and won't help, but the whole "uh oh!!! It's the high power Chiefs of 5 years ago!" is pretty ridiculous.

The Bucs and Steelers look good, but how much do we really think that lasts?

We aren't going undefeated after the bye, but who cares? January into (hopefully) February is all that matters. Just get there.

Take the bye, get healthy... take a breath.

Excuses.

It’s that crap right there in bold that is wrong with this organization. Im tired of that attitude and tired of being also rans in the playoffs. Excuse my French but what is the F?!@ing point of that?

And I'm tired of people who don't understand that once the playoffs begin, everything resets.

Being a part of the playoff field is what matters, and we will be.

Once we're there, we have JA17 and other teams don't.

I'm just over this talk. I chalked last week up to a division game with tons of self inflicted mistakes. Last night exposed all this teams flaws. Superbowl caliber teams don't lose to a team that lost 30-0 to Carolina.

Look, I love my Bills and I never ever give up on a game until the clock runs down to 0:00 but we could easily be 4-4 after the Kansas City game. Time to knock off all this Super Bowl favorites and #1 seed nonsense. This team is lost right now, no cohesiveness, no spark, even Superman Josh and the O-Line seems problematic...I could easily see the "Bickering Bills" of yesteryear return if the bad play all around still continues. The last thing we want or need is the players starting to point fingers at each other! If the ship isn't righted somehow soon, this is gonna get ugly!

SO, I am not disparaging your post.. I appreciate your thoughts... but to me its a bit of whistling by the graveyard... this Defense is abominable... they were horrific with Bernard and Jones and will continue to be horrific as long as Babich is there... they don't tackle, take proper angles, rush the passer, cover or have any type of spatial awareness... ie why does Bishop not just force him out of bounds... and they make up for it by being literally the worst at shedding blocks and blowing up plays...  to pin our hopes on reinforcements who failed drug tests that Beane signed in Free agency and a Rookie DB coming off of a knee injury who looked really poor in camp is aggressive... as we all know how prolific he is at identifying talent especially on the DL and WR position....  Which brings me to the offense... 2 large FA acqusitions in Palmer and Samuel... Palmer is now hurt and was playing at a Cminus level and Samuel will come back for one or two plays and get hurt... He is Milano or Josh Norris as a WR....  Keon Coleman is an absolute bust...  For the love of God, Jordan Poyer was in there yesterday, and we are pinning our current hopes on Gabe Davis coming off the practice squad...   Fire Babich... and if MCD wont fire McD... and if Beane wont to that then fire Beane...

Again it's funny to me..

This type of mindset in these type of beliefs come from the folks who go on a great first date with a girl. They swear she's really into him. Go get a second date, but you know, "just as friends."

The date will end with I had a really good time.

Yep, for many things a good time is good enough but when it comes to something where it matters I don't want a hog on the doorstep and a lonely ride home listening to Delilah.

There are many things in life we can accept as mediocre or less than ideal. These may be not getting that big raise at work, or losing a rec kickball game, or your kid getting a D on a math test

There are some things that we shouldn't settle for like casual fandom. As a fan we're just a spectator and nothing more if that's all we want to do cool. We should just show up and throw money at the product. I can happily do that but I won't invest myself in it.

Right now we have a championship caliber talent at quarterback and I will not accept anything else as a fan of this long-suffering franchise. I'm tired of excuses.

The doorstep isn't going to do it for me. Nothing short of waking up in bed with Josh in the morning and having Haley make us pancakes will work for me.

All of this is true and we have come roaring back from similar slumps in previous years to win the division and at least get to the divisional round of the playoffs.  But for me this feels different.  I am doubting whether we have the talent up and down the roster to repeat what previous Bills teams have done.

And the real kicker is that as soon as Gabe Davis is healthy, every team in the NFL is able to claim him from the Bills practice squad for nothing but a spot on their 53. If you look at practice squads, he sticks out as the best available WR by far.

I am generally one of the most optimistic folks around, but I disagree.  I can see us not making the playoffs.  And that is primarily due to our coordinators.  Both Brady and Babich seem incapable of making adjustments when the opposition throws things at us.

Look at the offense.  Other teams have now figured out they can cover man on man outside and stack up against the run and/or send multiple guys at Josh.  Brady does nothing to counter.  Where are throws to running backs?  Slants - something Coleman can run?  Screens or draws to negate the rush?  Nothing.  Where are the 4:1 configurations no one could stop last year?  The overstacked lines with Anderson that were successful?  Instead we see these jet sweeps that don’t work.  We see Josh having to resort to hero ball.  And inexplicably we see Cook sitting on the bench in crunch time.

Look at the defense.  Atlanta had two weapons: Bijon and London.  You can’t take at least London away by double teams?  Belichick was a genius at doing that; all we do is play zone and let the guy get open time after time.  Teams run all over us now.  It can’t just be about gap responsibility, there is a combination of poor schemes and poor player performance.  When they walked right down the field and scored first series I knew we were in trouble.  Other teams have no problem figuring out how to beat our D.  It can’t be figuring things out after halftime, it has to begin at the opening whistle with a DC that has adequately prepared for the game.

One last thing: stupidity.  We may very well have won this game if it weren’t for two stupid defensive offside penalties.  Is it really that much to ask that a professional football player know how to line up?  We could have won last week too if not for really stupid penalties and decisions.

I hope they use the bye for serious introspection.  Maybe a trade or two.  I think they still have the talent to win a championship, but the poor coaching and dumb plays have to stop.  Otherwise we’ll be outside looking in.  With a talent like Josh that should never happen.
