Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?

If Beane is serious about winning this year he needs to make a trade offer that blows someone out of the water. Make an offer New Orleans can't refuse. We don't have the luxury of staying patient to try and "win" the value of the trade. If the trade makes the offense better in 2025 it's an automatic win. Next year's draft be damned.

So go all in like this is the only year that matters. Unfortunately, Olave is the only one who could fit our cap and be talented enough to meet expectations. If he gets a contract extension from the Saints, I don’t think there is really another move to make this year.

Shaheed would easily fit our cap (this year at least). He is not as complete a receiver as Olave but he can certainly take the top of a defence as well as serve in the return game. He is to become a free agent. He’s 27. People feel that he has 3-4 years of blazing top end speed left in him. Bills would get a chance to know the player and work on a contract even before he enters free agency if they feel he's the real deal. I’d go hard at him. Just checking the Saints board, some feel he is their best receiver. Given the need to develop their QB I’m not sure he is actually available for trade.

I suspect that  either Monday or Tuesday we will hear that Beane made a trade for a WR that wasn't really talked about prior. 25% of the board will build him up as the savior. 50% of the board will be upset the Bills didn't trade for "their guy" and 25% will just be upset at the assets that were given up to acquire said WR to be named and say it was an over pay.

Shaheed’s punt return ability would let us cut Coddrington.  He will likely get a decent contract in free agency so whatever you give up for him you will recoup some as a comp pick the following year if you don’t resign him. But if he is all you acquire, I don’t think it’s enough.

Yeah the Saints themselves would probably get a compensatory 3rd for him if they just let him walk. So you would likely have to offer more. A 3rd and change.Tough.

I see Olave maybe going for a second and change and that would be a better deal for us I think.

Just interested in what would your game plan be if we traded for olave?  Give up a 1st and more and sign him to a 27-30M extension?  I’d be down as he’s just what we need on the field, but there’s a lot of risk with him. 5 documented concussions going back to college. It would be Beanes biggest all in move. Would be a shame if it ends up like Von Miller.  With our big investment on the sideline when it matters.  Big roll of the dice with olave but there’s boom potential should get us a Lombardi

The schedule is brutal next year. 

 

Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos, Lions, Packers, Bears, Vikings, Steelers or Ravens, Patriotsx2, Colts, Texans, or Jags. Plus an out of conference game against a division winner. Likely the Rams or Bucs imo. 

 

I'm assuming the Bills win the division. Thus, why I put the north and south teams on there. They will face those division winners. 

 

They need to go all in this season. The schedule will never be easier. Never more parity.

I think ultimately a 2nd would get it done. If we have to give up a 1st so be it, hopefully we get like a 3rd back as well in that scenario. Metcalf went for a 2nd and he's a better WR than Olave IMO. Maybe we give them Keon Coleman too if it comes to that. Anything within reason should be on the table.

 

I wouldn't extend him this year. No need to rush it given his injury history. As for what we would do with him after this season I don't even think about it to be honest. To me this is the all in year. I'm willing to make pretty much any move to help the offense regardless of how it impacts 2026 and beyond. I know that's a cop out answer but that's how I want Beane to be thinking about the team right now. Make decisions as if he's fired if we don't reach the Super Bowl.

Think of it, Carolina Panthers, KC Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Bucs, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, NE Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles. 

 

The next ten games matter a great deal, and Buffalo is currently 30th against the rush, 32nd in rushing yards per attempt. What saved Buffalo's defense last season was an unreal turnover ratio that led the league at +24.  The Bills, as of right now, are 15th in turnover ratio at -1. Yikes!

 

 That pass rush got to Allen because they simply didn't work the ground game well enough and didn't utilize Cook in the passing game. Heck, the kid was only involved in 53% of the offensive snaps and should have seen far more touches his way.  This Buffalo offense is a different animal than what we all watched under Daboll, as they now run the ball more now and it has helped keep the ball away from opposing offenses.

 

That Falcon game was a comedy of errors, penalties, bad play calls, and injuries. They get a turnover, and it's called back because of an offside, as so many things went wrong in this game. At this point, I don't know if one WR would help all that much, as the better teams managed to take Diggs away in some games. Unless it's a Justin Jefferson or someone like him, and no way teams are trading their star WR like him.

 

Besides, it all comes down to who Josh Allen trusts the most, unless you want to spend a third-round pick on another decoy like Cooper. Perhaps all they need is for Gabe Davis to get healthy. 

 

However, the Buffalo defense can't afford to wait until week 10 for Hairston, and that is even if he can start and play well. Which I doubt. I see a huge problem with this current defense when they needed to call upon Jordan Poyer to step in. This defense needs help asap.

Add Olave (I’d prefer Waddle) but I’d like to keep Coleman, imo he’s just not being used properly.  I think adding a legit wr1 helps him immensely.

You have to pay more during the season in every sport. That's why not addressing this in the offseason was such a major mistake. As to your final point, the fact that Beane seems more concerned with cap space in 2028 than winning a Super Bowl this year tells you a lot about his sense of urgency and his job security.

Oh for sure. The worst part is I saw all of this coming. I knew that investing a bunch in the defense wouldn't make a difference, although even I didn't think it would look this bad. I knew that failing to add a legit WR would haunt us. I knew that Beane's WGR rant would end up making him look foolish. Once the season started I kept an open mind and hoped they knew better, but unfortunately it has turned out even worse than I predicted. This whole year since March has been like watching a train crash in slow motion.

I hear ya.  If the rumors are true about the saints trying to resign him, as you said, we might have to make them an offer they can’t refuse.  I really hope we don’t trade a 1st for a 1 year rental.  Maybe a 2nd and Keon for a olave and a 5th could get it done
