Teams that are a combined 3-21. I don't see how you can fix all of this mid-season, but happy to be proven wrong. Its probably this, more than anything. Outside of a superstar QB that gives this team a chance at playoffs every year, the roster is pretty pedestrian, always hurt, or something in between. I do believe losing these games is the result of mediocre roster management for years, and the coaching just isn't good enough to overcome the deficiencies in talent, and glaring depth. There is a spotlight on Beane, IMO. As there should be. 1 1 Quote

BillnutinHouston Posted yesterday at 02:56 PM Posted yesterday at 02:56 PM What I find myself reflecting on today is, I'm so grateful I made the decision to abandon my 10+ year season tickets and not fall for the expensive kool-aid the Bills are selling (mafia + hope + PSLs). The thought of buying into a declining roster would make me ill. 1 Quote

That at least kept the ball in your best players hands but yes exactly. These idiotic sideways handoffs that they can’t complete to some of your lesser talented skill players takes the cake though. How! How! How! Is James Cook not on the field for EVERY short yardage play. I mean if there is a guy that might break it off into long yardage isn’t he one of them? I mean the dumb flip toss Josh did last night wasn’t even to Cook….talk about adding stupidity to a moronic situation. Ok I think that might have been my 10th post about this and I am starting to annoy myself with it. Be well Bills Mafia and enjoy the bye. GO BILLS when we get back! Quote
YoloinOhio Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) I do not really remember being 6-6 in 2023 that’s crazy. I’m not sure what can be done this year to right the ship but they sure do need this bye week. I’m not too worried about the #1 seed, I don’t think it matters. I would love to play the colts in the dome or the chargers in LA in January as opposed to highmark. Less enthused about Pittsburgh or KC but have experience winning there. Lots to play out! that said I was really worried about the offense last night and particularly Josh. Though he does throw up a game or two like that each season. I suspect they really weren’t prepared for the defensive looks as they never play them. The defense - I expected BS and got it though I liked the adjustments in the 2nd half coaching wise Edited 21 hours ago by YoloinOhio Quote

D needs to be more aggressive and force the issue which they did in the 2nd half. This D isn’t talented enough for bend don’t break. Yes, aggressiveness can lead to big plays, but it can also create mistakes, which is what this team needs . Offensive play-calling and player utilization is an absolute mess especially on meaningful downs. 3. WR1 is a glaring weakness that exposes the O. The lack of respect for our outside WRs is allowing defenses to neglect large portions of turf downfield and outside the #s. They can fill the box more and bring more heat because they have no fear of the perimeter weapons. 4. Watch other teams Safeties fill in run support then watch ours. The safeties are also slow and indecisive in coverage. 5. I like the guy, but I legitimately think a case can be made that the biggest improvement in the 2nd half defensively is Bernard being out. He is really struggling in base run and isn’t making the splash plays blitzing or in coverage. Don’t know the fix, but he needs to pick it up or sit. When my DB’s and LBs suck, im blitzing more often. We rarely do. Quote
Big Turk Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) There is a general lackadaisicalness with this team right now...like they have been good for so long that they are just going thru the motions early in the year and are good enough to usually still win. Rousseau lines up Offside on the first play of the game which is a fumble the Bills recover and gets wiped out. Allen instead of setting his feet and delivering an easy 1st down throw to a wide open Ty Johnson on an important 4th down tries the backhand flip he has done many times that always worked except it doesn't work this time. Joe Brady instead of doing an Allen Shnowplow on a 3rd and long 1, twice if needed, near midfield on a drive that could tie the game, decided to once again try and "get cute" with an end around to Moore that once again for the 2nd week in a row cannot be handled properly and it gets dropped, he picks it up but loses 2 yard so then they can't even go for it on 4th down since now it's too far. Probably other plays and things that happened too, but those are the 3 main things that stood out as just plays where people just aren't "dialed in" properly across the board and making dumb decisions in important situations because they weren't on the details properly like the team normally is. Andy1 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Last year the defense feasted on turnovers. This year so far, not so much. 2024, in 17 games they had 16 interceptions, 18 forced fumbles and 16 fumbles recovered. That’s 1.88 turnovers per game. This year they have 8 forced fumbles, 3 recovered and 2 interceptions in 6 games. That’s 0.8 turnovers per game. Just one small data piece reflecting the less effective defense this year. 2 Quote

The defense - I expected BS and got it though I liked the adjustments in the 2nd half coaching wise There is some "is Josh regressing" chatter nationally today - but I'd have a hard time even calling last night one of those games he usually has. Once Palmer went out, the cupboard was really bare. The defense could focus almost exclusively on Shakir. The announcers were correctly observing that, too - not having Palmer along w/ missing Samuel and Kincaid really limited things. And you could see it on the field. The times Josh was able to evade pressure and keep plays alive, he still wasn't seeing anything downfield. Last night could have been Coleman's chance to really shine, but I have no idea what he's doing out there. When Josh tried to get the ball to him, he was covered like he was standing still. Quote

Nitro Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Two losses and the mob with torches and pitch forks come out. Reality check. This team is in transition. In flux of defensive talent was the focus. There are growing pains with young talent. NOW the whole thing went awry with injuries in the preseason and continue to this day. This seems to be a problem with the strength and conditioning program. Second observation is the OC has been the reason the offense is sputtering. Rely on the best players. Cook is playing only half the snaps. Where is the RBs in the passing attack? The trick plays he dials up has a poor track record. When injuries hit the WR corps, he is slow to alter his play calling and personnel usage. Brady has the offense riding a roller coaster. The DC is over his head and seems to have no solutions to the decimated secondary and porous run defense. These are problems that need to be addressed. IMO the soft zone is making opponents WRs look spectacular. Beane has to reassess how he and McD are building the roster. Overall, once they get healthy this team can dominate. The players are the ones who have to play smart, not make unforced errors, execute the plays as designed and perform to a high standard. This crew has been disappointing, to me, this whole season. Sorry about venting but this is my opinion. Have a great bye week. GO out and enjoy Sunday with family and friends. GO BILLS. Quote
HamptonBillsfan Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Reflect on this, Beane has watched the same games as we have and he sees the same ineptitude. Now if he stands pat and doesn’t make any meaningful changes (replacing Babich, acquiring secondary help, acquiring a receiver that gets separation, cutting or trading oft injured or unproductive players opening up roster spots) we know he’s not the guy to win with. His drafts are terrible, he’s constantly in cap hell with no real impact player other than Josh and Cook, and he’s hitched his wagon to a defensive minded coach that is presiding over a stale offense that is not capitalizing on Josh’s strengths. We have beaten only teams with losing records and against an inferior Atlanta team, we were worked. We need a GM that’s proactive or we’re not getting over the hump. Quote
