(I am actually going to the game) But we are not destroying the Falcons or most any team with the secondary we have playing right now. They have been awful. Give way too much space all over the field. The Falcons are not a great team. But we better have had a strong week of practice and come out locked and loaded on both sides of the ball. Really frustrating how little we did to improve the team after last seasons crash landing in the AFCCG. Maybe it’s the coaching. But we have been sleep walking a whole lot through the first 5 weeks of the season. I think getting Hoecht back after the bye will really help if we know how to use him. He is a freaky athlete. And we don’t have any guys like him on our defense. Quote

More injuries can happen, but that's a significant percentage of the roster. I really think Beane has be be aggressive at the deadline. Someone like Olave would boost our odds for the SB very significantly. Quote

They were a kadarius Toney toe and completely depriving them of a game winning drive opportunity with time left and all 3 timeouts from not winning the division but making it in is a wildcard if I am recalling correctly. Chiefs likely would’ve lost the division also if you just took away their game winning drive opportunities for no reason 😂 the time left thing I am 100% sure of but I will doublecheck if 10 wins and 1 more afc loss would’ve got us in…I’m 85% sure it would’ve. It probably would have, but at the time it would have felt like the end of the season. The Bills would have been 6-7 and would have needed the Jags to completely collapse down the stretch to get in. As it turned out, the Jags did just that. What I remember is that the NYT simulator had the Bills at a 19% chance of making the playoffs after their OT loss in Philly going into the bye. Quote

Then they drafted, and kept drafting, defense. Another one of them just went on IR for knee surgery. Stuff happens. Always seems to happen with their defenses Quote

Maybe the guys you mention will make a difference too. it just pisses me off every season the holes and deficiencies in the roster. Beane is so mediocre acquiring good talent. maybe it’s the scheme and the coaching staff. We just seem to be spinning our wheels. i don’t think people are panicking. I think it’s more frustration that they see a team w a bad secondary and a pretty weak receiving group. And a coach and GM who don’t seem to want to fix the situation. 1 Quote

A little history will help: 2021: the Bills are 7 - 6 and 2.5 games out of 1st place in the east. 2022: the Bills are 6 - 3 and in 3rd place in the AFC East. 2023: the Bills are 6 - 6 and 3 games behind Miami in the East. 2024: the Bills are 3 - 2 after 5 games. So in what alternate universe is 4 - 2 season over for a team with the above track record? Quote

folz Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Just an update in regards to our defense vs. our previous opponents (wasn't sure where else to post this): Last 4 games (Bills defense vs. offensive opponents). For the most part, the Bills have held their last 4 opponents to at or below their season averages. I know we need to see more on defense to take us all the way (and we have not seen a dominant performance yet, by any means), but I'm not sure that it's as bad as some of you think. Some folks act as if we performed worse against these teams than other defenses have/would. We are currently an average-ish defense with a lot of room to grow and get better----with the returning players and the young guys getting experience. [Stats below include today's (week 6) games.] Just FYI. JETS Points/game Yards/game Sacks/TOs allowed/game season averages: 20.5 311 4/1.33 Jets vs. Bills: 10 154 4/1.0 DOLPHINS season averages: 22.33 300.16 2/1.33 Phins vs. Bills: 21 276 0/2.0 SAINTS season averages: 18.5 315.5 1.83/0.66 Saints vs. Bills: 19 298 3.0/1.0 PATRIOTS season averages: 25 345.16 3.0/1.16 Pats vs. Bills: 23 338 4.0/1.0 Quote
Mister Defense Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 16 hours ago, finn said: Can you imagine if Bishop gets hurt? Then we'd have Poyer playing next to Tre White. Get out the canes and that old-timey music! Yup, may well happen! Poyer and White, together again, after all these years! Lovely thought. For any QB in the league, minus Fields, and for any defensive coordinator. I think the reason Beane has not brought in any reinforcements to change the secondary is because no former and completely washed Bills' defensive backs are still available-- Dane, Tre, Jordan Poyer, all comfortably signed sealed and delivered. Maybe now Levi Wallace is now up to bat? Seems to fit the mold very well. Beane has been an excellent GM overall, but I can't be more shocked at this glaring, huge miscue. Like he is digging in his heels. May very well prevent the Bills from being a true contender this year. 1 Quote
ProcessTruster Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago when I see Milano, Max, Benford, Hoecht, Oganjobi (sp?) and Oliver on the field at the same time, that's when I start thinking on how far this team can go. kind of speculative/silly to think about it until then. 1 Quote
