Looked like he gave up a couple sacks and completely whiffed on the 4th down hand off to Shakir. I'm sure it's hard to come in and play flawless in that situation, so some of his mistakes are probably forgivable, but I don't think an apology thread is necessary.

He tripped over the guards foot.

Van Demark was having too much fun out there burying defenders into the ground. He must have had 6-8 pancake blocks on Sunday. Even still, I'll be glad when we Spencer Brown is back to full health and on the field. I think many of us take for granted how good of a RT he has become.

He's going to get fat bonus points for trying to murder guys to the whistle when he was blocking in line, but I still think he really struggled in passpro.

To his defense he was dealing with Cam Jordan all day.

Agreed this is a pure LAMP without any actual breakdowns or links.

Just look up the all 22 for yourself, it ain’t rocket surgery, lol,

He did ok. He got beat a few times but made some nice plays as well. He is a backup for a reason, but he didn’t embarrass himself, IMO.

I watched a lot of the All-22 and a Mariano’s clips. I have to agree that Van Demark did very well for his 3rd (?) start ever, plus he’s a more natural LT. The sack was more on Josh, he held the ball too long. He gave up a couple pressures but was dominant in the run game. We could do a lot worse for a backup tackle. I was more pissed at the 4th down play call than Van Demark whiffing. He got tripped up by Torrance taking a big step back when he pulled.

I haven't gone back and rewatched the game yet let alone All-22 breakdowns but we were keeping an eye on Van Demark in the stadium and it looked like he was playing on roller skates.  I mean truly getting eaten alive out there when we were keying on him.  I'd be curious to see these All-22 highlights that show otherwise

He struggled out of the gate but he definitely found his footing.  Considering how much the team ran the ball and how effectively at times, i'd assume he was doing his 1/11 on a lot of those plays.

Yeah, I don't care about what some other dudes All 22 says. I watched the game and to my eyes every time I saw him he was getting beat so bad Tyreek Hill tried to adopt him

I remember watching the game in real time and thinking Brown was having a terrible game in pass pro but still doing well run blocking and then realizing half way through it was VDM. I think his pass protection was OK, but given that the ground game didn't skip a beat (and the All-22 reviews and somewhat smart people reviewing the film say this) I think his run blocking was good. If a swing tackle can give you competent play that's about as good as you can ask for and a true luxury to have even a decent backup tackle when many teams struggle to have two or even one decent tackle. I think largely what made VDM look bad in pass protection was that Brown is usually so good that it probably makes OK play look terrible.

Kromer's development factory seems to be working. The only "major" investments in the line cap or draft wise since 2022 have been a late 2nd round pick in Torrence and a upper mid-level free agency signing in McGovern. The rest of the depth and signings have been lower level vets like Edwards (whose plugged in nicely as a starter) or lower level draft picks and UDFA's like Alec Anderson and VDM have been higher end backups/role players while SVPG and Grable are also developing along with Lundt.

As I watched the game I thought Brown (and then later realizing it was VDM) was getting beat at RT in pass protection but the ground game was not suffering for the most part. I wonder was VDM bad at pass pro or was he just OK but Brown being so good makes OK pass protection look bad by comparison?

Agreed. The Bills made a halftime adjustment where they had Hawes lined up next to Van DeMark on several plays to start the 3rd quarter. I believe they had Knox help out as well. Passpro was a challenge for him. Apparently he did better in run blocking. He’s OT4 so we can’t harp too much on him.

I have been listening to All-22 breakdowns of the Saints games from a few sources not just my favorites and it seems Ryan Van Demark had a really solid game.

I made some snap judgements about his play during the game and taking it all back and eating my humble pie.

Seems that all in all the kid did a great job out there and I am glad for him. With Grable on IR we are a bit thin with quality depth with our swing tackles and he was an ascending player not that long ago.

Hey, I'm known among my Bills fan friends as insanely positive and even I was bitching about him during the game and between PFF, Joe Marino, and Brandon Thorn, I'm willing to admit that I was probably wrong.

Having first heard of him when meeting his parents at an NJ Bills bar (and he was on the PS), I'm glad to be wrong.

Saints don't have a lot of players most people have heard of.  Cam Jordan is among the only ones - and while he isn't prime Cam Jordan, he's still going to do his thing against a young backup swing tackle.
