jethro_tull Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The defense should be back loaded down the stretch with the return of the PED suspended FA Studs Hoecht and Ogunjobi- as well as our no. 1 pick speed demon corner Hairston comes off IR. Should be catching their collective and respective "strides" after the week 8 return from the bye. All three could realistically become fresh and healthy starters by mid season- never happened that I am aware of. Should be very interesting...... Quote
SCBills Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Not expecting a ton from Ogunjobi. Hoping Walker & Sanders have enough reps down to relegate him to reserve/inactive or DT5 if needed on Gameday. Hoecht is legit. Really good player who makes the DE rotation a real strength if we can keep Bosa healthy. Hairston is a wild card, but they’ve got to find a way to get him on the field and get the reps needed to be a factor for the playoffs. Having his speed opposite Benford is huge for this Defense and what they’ll want to be able to do with pressure packages. 3 Quote

At the very least, Buffalo is going to be very deep at cornerback and defensive end, assuming everybody can stay healthy. Quote
Logic Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago If Ed Oliver's game 1 (and Beane saying it was the best camp of his career) are an indication of a career year for him, and Bosa and our linebackers can stay healthy... Then I like the defense's chances of being good this year. I don't think the Ravens game is a realistic indication of the defense's quality this year. Playing as many youngsters as they are and being in a transitional phase, there were always going to be some early growing pains, especially against an offense as dynamic as the Ravens'. Our safety play needs to rise to "average", but beyond that...I think the Bills D will be just fine, particularly with the returns of Hoecht and Hairson. 1 Quote
CEN-CAL17 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Been saying it for months!!!! Out safeties are not good. They are slow, can’t tackle very well…. And mostly they are not ball hawks. There will be little PBUs, and Ints will be shocking. Bills safety tandem honestly, rank probably near bottom 5 in the league. 1 Quote

Bills don’t have a lot of speed on defense as it is. Daquan Jones is overrated. Bosa ain’t Bosa of 2018. Ed Oliver is a stud. they will once again have a middle of the road defense and you’ll see there will be multiple games where it will be up to the offense to win it. They will be better at years end, more of the bend don’t break style. But this defense isn’t anything special. I see the DLine having the ability to collapse the pocket which will affect some younger QBs, but the Pro Bowl style QBs will give us trouble. Hence, the Offense will need to pull is through. 1 1 Quote

I’m hoping Hancock ends up being a surprise at Safety for us. I agree we need an upgrade. Quote

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted 53 minutes ago Posted 53 minutes ago Yes and also the three rookie lineman by December won't exactly be rookies. I think need to put this game in perspective that they probably just played one of the top 3 teams in the league excluding themselves on both sides of the ball. Lets see how they look the next two weeks before giving up on them. I also think too the Ravens are better in early season that in playoffs as by then both Henry and Jackson are a bit beat up and worn down. Funny too how many things in the media talked about how this game likely means if they meet in the playoffs, the game will be in Buffalo. But yet last year, the Ravens beat the Bills in the regular season, but the playoff game still ended up in Buffalo. Quote

With the players returning from suspension and injury, and the younger guys getting more reps, I'm hoping we play our best D in the playoffs. One of these years it has to happen! Quote

I agree that our defense will improve as the year goes on with the return of a handful of guys. The key will be keeping the current group healthy. Especially Benford Quote
